“How does she know this? Did she get a pamphlet?” 😂😂😂 I really enjoyed the middle school discussion hahah never thought about that once while originally watching or rewatching lol
One of my favorite tropes explored in this show is the hidden inner demon. JJK does it in such a refreshing way especially, if you are someone who has watched the animes that created the trope.
oh god the comments hyping up characters has started it why are jjk fans so impacient
Algebra hahaha
“When will I understand how Jujutsu, cursed energy, and sorcery in this world works?” “That’s the neat part. You don’t!”
that's not good : C
sakuna, sukumba, susuna....i guess we have our own bernard in jjk like we did in aot lol
okay so your review of JJK on letterboxd or any other movie/series logging platform better be “moral of the story; school is important!”
Nah moral of JJK is skip school all the time. Nobody should go to this school
It could be ousama ranking Daida stuck in blackness with child miranjo
yall trying to recall sukuna's name cracked me up 😭😭
you guys, your intro discussion was too funny this ep 😭😭😭 one of the reasons i watch you guys is for amazing discussions like this lmao
DOMAIN EXPANSION
37:10 I love how you guys doubt Gojo and don't take his "I'm the strongest" at face value. I think you will really enjoy uncovering Gojos true strength and origin in the next few episodes and also season 2
was it ranking of kings? bodji’s brother?
How are they liking the show so far?
I'd say pretty good so far. They like the characters and are curious about this world. Obviously confused by cursed energy but that is completely natural at this point
Always cool to see how in depth you guys go with pre and post discussions. Gojo is very arrogant but he has good reason to be honestly lmao
The only scenes I can think of that Milena is referencing is maybe AOT season 1 when Eren knocks himself out while in Titan form and armin comes and wakes him up out of the dream he was in. The scene ends with the dream going up in flames with the room completely dark. OR at the end of book 2 of avatar when aang is opening his chakras with the guru and he’s in a very space like mindscape and a glowing road and he hears katara in distress and it breaks him out of this state and locks his chakras in the process :) sorry if this was no help I tried haha
that aot scene is exactly what came to mind for me too. the avatar one sounds like it fits what she was describing too, but i personally haven't seen avatar so 🤷♀️
This episode was the one that officially started my love for JJK. It's not like my favourite episode and the following ones are the ones that actually got me fully invested in the story but this episode planted the seed for my love. I tell people that have not seen the show before, but that are familiar with the shounen genre, that JJK truly does feel like what a shounen world would look like irl. It was so refreshing at the time of my first watch in 2021 to have this being its episode 4 which ponders on the questions it does. Before that you had the classic Big 3 shounen anime which, due to the way manga was adapted back in the day, took it's time to reach some of it's more introspective moments – obviously if you've actually recently watched the first arcs of any of the Big 3 and don't just base it of your childhood memories you'd know that overall this is not entirely true and that those shows have very strong beginning with great themes and questions from the start. Still, being the next big shounen after recent stories like My Hero Academia and Black Clover, which aligned more with the classic understanding of the hero's journey, JJK challenges from the start Yuji's naive worldview. His kindness, his positivity and his spontaneity are all qualities that grips us in the first episodes but is that enough for our protagonist to win against the realities of his world? The show doesn't bash us over our heads with bleakness and drama but it maintains a fair pragmatism. No matter how questionably strong Yuji initially is, how can someone entirely unaware of what jujutsu sorcery is be able to fight and win against a special grade curse? The answer is not a sudden secret power or move. Yuji is faced with his mortality and realistically gets scared and immediately questions his strong conviction that he displayed to principal Yaga. It's not a move that saves him but Yuji does finally start to use his negative emotions as a sorcerer would and you can interpret that freely. Realistically, Yuji has to give way to Sukuna to stand a chance against his foe and even more realistically - he can't easily swap back no matter how easy it all seemed in episode 1. You've also raised very good points about Megumi. He feels like a very believable 15 y.o boy in the way he thinks and questions things. Be that his age or his upbringing, Megumi is guarded in the way he approaches this situation. Unlike Yuji, Megumi's been in this for long enough to atleast know how to protect himself somewhat from this pain considering Yuji's desire to give everyone a proper death is an immense goal to place upon yourself and not instantly expect disappointment. But Megumi does save Yuji and that says so much about him. JJK knows that any shounen worth it's salt should instantly have a very strong dynamic established between it's protagonist and his best friend (rival in some shows).
Same here. Before this episode JJK seemed like it was following the tried and tested path of the genre. But the harsh reality of this episode was the first trigger for me to pay a bit more attention to this show. It caught my eye. The upcoming episodes and an upcoming certain mini arc solidified that and my love for this show officially started.
“Who is teaching Yuji algebra?” lol I laugh but she has a point.
So many good questions.... looking forward to the next episode!
The power-up of Yuji that Lola is looking forward to the most will be the episode where he learns how to do a tax return
Girls I think a Tier list video of shows you both have watched these past couple of years would be fun to do. The last one was 5 years ago 😅 so im sure there is a lot to add.
yuji and nobara are the silliest/cutest duo
They share a braincell which Megumi rents out to them so he doesn't have to deal with their shenanigans (he still does)
the discussions have been so good, all your questions will be answered, taking notes is actually a very good idea. love how we got some good moments for megumi and yuji in this one
you girls are really close to reaching 300k on yt, potential 300k special???? 👀
when we hit a milion we’ll make playlists
Their lack of faith in Gojo is so funny omg I think they are the first reactors ive seen who didnt take Gojo's "im the strongest" at face value
them perceiving gojo is so funny
sakumba😭😭 milena is killing me
Next episode's reaction should be fun
LM literally asking all the right questions. I'm really excited for the next episode for a number of reasons(3) that i will not spoil :)
I was thinking of Fullmetal and Greed/Ling
Yea some people can just see curses they don’t have to be sorcerers or anything…that scene of Yuji remembering his grandad words to make the first move even tho he’s scared is so goated and telling of his character. Also I’d definitely recommend writing if you don’t understand something maybe it’ll be explained later on better.
Just found out LM are watching JJK. I don't think LM guesses (what will happen in the story, what will happen to certain characters etc) will be 100% correct. I hope they make it all the way to S3
Just got back from work and got a bowl of cereal, perfect timing
Thank god this is 2x a week i needed this
Peak jjk
