Shogun Episode 1 Reaction

Watching The boys season 4 without watching GEN Z seems like a mistake
Toranaga is the heir's uncle through marriage. The heir's mother, Lady Ochiba, and Toranaga's daughter-in-law are sisters. Lady Ochiba has been taken prisoner by Toranaga on the pretext that she is visiting her sister, who is pregnant. We haven't seen either of these sisters on-screen (yet). The other regents are not directly related to Toranaga or to the heir.
Excited to see your reaction to this! The guy who plays Rodrigues also played Richard Alpert in Lost. Maybe thats where you know him from
Excellent pick girls. Fantastic show. Expert writing and storytelling. Really curious to see what your final opinions on specific characters is.
What are the shows that they are waiting for Season 2? Severance and what?
Andor
Ladies you read “Protestants” as parliament at the start. Smh lol NOT THE SAME. Remember Martin Luther who caused Protestant reformation well that divided Europe for a really long time in which the two religious blocks were mortal rivals competing for power. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reformation The show is based on the Portuguese and later Dutch trading and missionary missions or the so called Nanban trade. This explains how Portugal and later replaced by the Dutch were the only European nations allowed to trade and stay on Japan (Japan wasn’t a country yet but many smaller kingdoms fighting which later will lead to the Sengoku Jidai a civil war era in Japan) but this led to technology exchanges with Japan. You can read more on it here since I’m guessing it’s about this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanban_trade
I hope y’all consider Andor after shogun 😔
"I thought they were gonna cut his dick off or something" I see the logic you were going for Milena, but that still cracked me up lol
The person who holds true power in Japan, the ruler from the shadows... Max.
The word "shogun" was a title used by a commander-in-chief in feudal Japan. It was a hereditary title. At the start of the show, the previous shogun was already dead, leaving an underage heir. That's the reason there is a council of regents. At the time in Japan, there was also an emperor, or tenno, but his power usually was more symbolic, his duties were mainly representative and ceremonial. The de facto rulers of the country, possessing the real political and military power above all the feudal lords, were the Shoguns during that historical period.
A welcomed surprise. Enjoy it guys
I hope you girls like suicide and bad haircuts.
I really loved this show! "Shogun" is a new adaptation of the book by James Clavell. There was also a previous adaptation in 1980. Almost all the characters are based on real historical figures from the Sengoku period in Japan, but with different names, allowing the author to take some liberties with the story: Toranaga -> Ieyasu Tokugawa Taiko (the previous Shogun) -> Hideyoshi Toyotomi (often referred to by the title Taiko in real life) John Blackthorne (Anjin) -> William Adams Lady Mariko/Maria -> Hosokawa Garasha/Gracia Akechi Jinsai (Mariko's Father) -> Akechi Mitsuhide Lady Ochiba (Mother of the heir) -> Yodo-no-kata
I have been wanting to start this series. I can watch it now with LM
those last few moments...straight chills
An excellent executive decision. Or should I say, an excellent Shogunate decision.
Really love this show and I'm glad y'all are watching. The first two episodes did air together and I think you'll see why when you get to the second one, a lot of things are cleared up and the show has more direction at that point. I would also highly recommend the viewer's guide that FX put out for this show, as it does have further context for characters and events in each episode, without spoilers for the next ones. https://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/shogun/viewers-guide
also i am SO EXCITED to hear what everyone has to say about these two shows!!!
Perfect! I needed a push to put this on and watching along with you girls is ideal. Looking forward to it.
Glad your watching this but please watch Gen V before you start The Boys season 4.
Toranaga and Mariko were interesting to me right away. Three episodes in and I don't think my opinion on Blackthorn (the pilot) has changed too much haha, he's easily the least interesting imo.
i’ve been meaning to start this show! (also s3 of the bear is dropping 6/27 in its entirety, in case you haven’t already heard today)
Woah that's so cool, I JUST started watching this show as well.
FUCK. I intend to watch this show but haven’t been able to yet cus I don’t have Disney + rn but seems like I’ll have to get it asap to follow your reactions. 😭 No way am I not following this since I’m a massive history buff.
Good executive decision, I too cannot wait for June

Nice, I haven't started this yet, but this and Fallout are on my watchlist
Also I’m sad Gen V is not next but I hope is on the next poll, whenever that is.
Ok love both Shogun , and Fallout . Fallout more , because I played the game , but then I do love Japan so.... Win win anyway . Good executive decision 😂
Sameee.

Oh hell yeah! This is going to be awesome
Shogun was good but I'm extremely hyped for Fallout!
The girls about to see some of the strongest and most beloved written women in recent times!!
Ooh, cool. Just started watching this the other day, I'm only a few episodes in. EDIT: Oh, and I just watched Fallout too, so that works out haha.
