I always wanted a mini mod that allows Sims to do something postgrad. So I created this mini mod that allows your Sim to go to graduate school (kind of at least). Basically, your Sims will go back to "college" for a Simvanced Degree. This mod comes with:
• New Computer and Rabbithole Interactions
• Custom Buffs
+ more
This mod is available for Young Adults-Elders.
PLEASE. READ. CAREFULLY:
NOTE: This mod is mainly computer/rabbithole based. All of the interactions can be found on the computer under the Graduate School pie menu:
Applying to Graduate School:
In order to apply to graduate school, your Sim will NEED to already have a degree from either Foxbury or Britechester. If they do not, the interaction will not show, or it will be greyed out. Applying will cost §150. After applying, there is a waiting period of 48 hours before your Sim is able to check if they were accepted. They won't be able to do anything related to graduate school until the timer is up. After 2 days, have your Sim go back to the computer to check. This will begin to unlock things for them. After acceptance, your Sim will also have to:
• Pay Tuition (§75,000)
• Pay Course Fees (§1,000)
Your Sim cannot enroll in any program until the tuition is paid.
Funding:
There are a few funding options for Sims.
• Tuition Assistance: Accepted Sims with Distinguished Degrees are able to apply for Tuition Assistance. This means that §15,000 will be deposited to their account to help them pay the overall cost of tuition.
Grants: After paying the course fees, accepted Sims can then access the Grants portal. Note that Sims will need to have relatively high skills in Writing and Research & Debate to receive a grant. Here are the available Grants and their amount:
• The Goth Family Endowment for Thoughtful Study: §10,000 -Requires Writing Level 7+
• The Landgraab Academic Advancement Grant: §5,000 -Requires Research and Debate 6+
• The Strangerville Field Study Grant: §2,700 -Requires Research and Debate 5+
Assistantships: Assistantships are also available for accepted Sims who have paid their tuition and fees. There are three (3) types: Graduate Assistantship, Research Assistantship, Teaching Assistantship. Sims can go to assistantships Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between the hours of 9-5. They will receive §1,500 each time.
NOTE: Your Sim can NOT have an assistantship AND receive a grant. They'll have to choose one type of funding at a time. If you change your mind, then have your Sim go to the computer and select the Cancel Funding interaction.
Degree Programs:
There are nine (9) Simvanced Degree programs for this mod:
• sBA (Simvanced Degree in Business Administration)
• Psychology (S.D.)
• Biology (S.D.)
• Computer Science (S.D.)
• Physics (S.D.)
• Education (S.Ed.)
• Fine Arts (S.F.A)
• Language and Literature (S.D.)
• History (S.D.)
Your Sim can choose a degree program on the computer under the Graduate Programs menu, or they can go to the Find a Job interaction. Because this functions like a career, it will ask if you want your Sim to leave their current career to become a grad student.
If you want to switch majors, just have your Sim quit their current grad school career.
Coursework & Grad School:
Your Sim will go to grad school starting at 9 a.m., and depending on the program of study, they will be there for 5-6 hours. Each program/career technically comes with only 2 levels (to represent two years of grad school), but your Sim will have a lot of career objectives. Some things your Sim can do under the Coursework menu are:
• Conduct Scholarly Research
• Write Scholarly Research Papers
• Write Case Studies
• Shadow a Professional
+ more
Graduating:
Before your Sim can graduate, they will HAVE to:
• Be on the final level of their graduate program/career.
• Defend Their Thesis
Once they do, the 'attend graduation' interaction will be become available on the computer under the Graduation tab. After attending graduation, your Sim will come back with a degree trait.
Career Impact:
Initially I was going to allow this mod to impact the career, but after looking at the Distinguish Degrees and what they do, I reconsidered. But I may add a feature that further impacts the career in the future. We'll see.
Anyway, although this mod has some guidelines, it's basically self-paced. You get to decide how quickly or slowly your Sim progresses or graduates. It's also kind of general across programs. This mod is really only meant for added gameplay and storytelling purposes. Nothing insane.
Either way I hope you enjoy!
