custom desktop icons + cursors
for those who requested an accompanying desktop icon of my UI mods :-) comes in 20+ desktop icons in 8 different styles + desktop cursors adapted from my UI mods!
📢 Everything in this post is not a mod, but rather customization options for your desktop / folders!
// desktop icon installation guide (Windows):
Download & extract .zip to someplace permanent (deleting the source will cause icons failing to load and show up as blank paper📄)
Right-click the TS4 desktop shortcut (not the original .exe file found in Bin) and select Properties
Select Change Icon... > Browse... > search for the .ico file you choose
Select Apply & OK, and your desktop icon will get updated! :]
extras:
For taskbar shortcuts: right-click on the updated desktop shortcut first, then pin to taskbar.
For start menu icons: right click > open file location > replace the icons from the selected shortcut instead.
Icons not updating on your Windows PC? You can restart Explorer via Task Manager to reset the icon cache.
For Mac users, you can try following this guide along from the support site.
what's included:
256 x 256 px icons for various apps (sims & non-sims related icons)
// desktop cursor installation guide (Windows):
Download & extract .zip to someplace permanent (deleting the source will cause cursors failing to load)
In Settings, open Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch > select Customize pointer image
Browse and select the associated .cur files
Apply & Save as to keep the changes
what's included:
// changelogs
March 9 '26 update: added v2 for TS2 icons (plumbobs only)
March 16 '26 update: added desktop icons for any TS4/sims related apps if anyone wants it :-)
🆕 May 16 '26 update: 15+ new icons (nonsims and sims related icons), plus desktop cursors adapted from my cursor overrides.
All icons have been remade & reconverted and will now scale properly without any pixelations. Please remove old versions and use the updated versions instead.

omg this is so cute, esp the windows cursors!!
I LOVE IT <3
i think it misses one called alternate select or am i blind??? pls help
I didn't include one since I don't think it's used often. You can reuse the pointer or link select cursor for alternative select
dark blue need mod very much!
太棒啦 爱你大大
Thank you so much for these icons, they are truly beautiful.
i love these so much. no pressure and just a suggestion, but could we get one for microsoft edge too?
i need to learn to to make my own for the apps that arnt on here
i LOVE these so much, you have no idea. Now i just need a chalk'd folder icon, a recycle bin icon and to search the web for a similar enough chalkboard background for my desktop. Goodbye spooky forest, hello everything chalk. And a side request: would you mind making an icon for clip studio paint? i'm using your photoshop icon for it at the moment, which is slightly hilarious.
immediately got the purple cursors! Though I am certain you forgot to add two symbols for just "busy" and "alternative selection" (translating from german, so not sure if these terms are correct), but since I have my standard cursor set to purple, I don't think it matters to me personally
ooh I'm so customizing my desktop with these!!
this is so sick and i love it, but do you think you could make an icon for file explorer too? its in my taskbar and its the only thing that doesnt match
Thank you so much , I love you 🩷💜
This is soooo awesome & ty for including GIMP <3
You are the best, thank you!
These are fantastic! Thank you!! ETA: These are seriously so good, it makes me wanna get allll these apps just so I can use all the icons! I just downloaded GIMP for the first time in years, needed another alternative to PS/Affinity anyway, so thanks for that as well, lol 😸
Will this work if I only have ts4 on my toolbar at bottom?
Yes. Change the icon on desktop first, then pin the shortcut to your taskbar.
At this point, I think everyone is going to ask for their favorite for all major icons. These are SO GOOD! XDD
can you make a chalked version for tray importer?
love love love
Would you consider doing a Chalk'd one for Discord ? pls :)
TYSM!! love this
just let make everthing black LOVE THIS omg!

Am I being too greedy if I ask for the Sims, Sims 2, and Sims 3 icons in pink? like take my money please 😭😭😭😭
hi! i love those, how do you make them? i would love to have all my icons like that, but when i look for icons for specific app on google and i install them i cant set them as icons :(
You'll need to convert png to ico. There are free png to ico converters available online (vert.sh works ok). They may look a bit pixelated with this method though.
Literally doesnt work
Did you read & follow the instructions? And the info at the end if the desktop icons aren't updating?
this is absolutely amazing. can i be greedy and ask for curseforge too
Just a suggestion, no pressure of course. But I was just looking at my row of Sims 4 things and I wanted to see if you'd be into making these icons for PlumbBuddy and S4 Tray Importer. These icons are just so pretty, but I feel greedy 😅
You're so creative. Thank you for doing these
I really like you Vyxated! You're like hey so here’s a little idea from me. No early access or anything. Just a free gift. Enjoy! <3 <3 <3
Omgg I love this! Wishing you could also make some for Steam and minecraft since ik minecraft is big too!
always so creative <333 do you ever think about making UI nd stuff with the sime 3? I think it1s the best UI from all games
These are amazing, any chance you would make matching ones for the EA app launcher? Its red rn and doesn't match with these beauties.
sure thing
This is cool. You're very talented.
So creative, thank you! I love The Sims 1 icon even though I use the Sims 2 UI. Would've loved a version without the number 4 included
