Drops Of Sand (Narrative Detail Assignment)
It's Friday? Holy smokes Anomalies.
One of my favorite classes in grad school was Words For Music. It was a very intense class where we wrote a song almost every week. In this class, I met most of my lifelong graduate school friends and had so much fun creating and critiquing each other's works.
This assignment required the class to write a song that tells a story. I chose to write about the going to Vegas to get married. At that time, I never really wrote songs like stories and it was a challenge for me. I miss grad school so much but I don't miss homework, lol.
The title Drops of Sand is from the sand that Brian and I poured together into a jar during our ceremony. It's a mix of blue and green and lives on a bookshelf in the living room. It looks good enough to eat.

Drops Of Sand
One brother came all the way from Brooklyn
Our father said Florida might have kept him away
My oldest brother only brought his wife from Georgia
They left the kids behind needed to get away
Michael brought a date and he regretted it
He said it's like bringing sand to the beach
We left our home the last time as boyfriend and girlfriend
The rest of our lives within our reach
Travelled from San Diego, my mother cried
Her little girl was getting married Sunday
Our families made their way across the country
One spring eight years ago, the first day of May
Drops of sand in a jar
It's been so long but here we are
My grandmother ended up staying home
She said that she didn't have a ride
Missed all the festivities that Thursday
My throat was on fire needed to rest that night
Friday the men and the women went separate ways
Ruby knew exactly where the ladies should go
My last night in singledom went by so very fast
We laughed. We danced until the sun came up
He kissed me good night till we met at the altar
My daddy walked with me and said that I was beautiful
The best day of my life is when I became his wife
One spring eight years ago, the first day of May
Drops of sand in a jar
