I Hate Karaoke! Karaoke Series: Shadowboxer by Fiona Apple
And yet...here I am doing it again. "How come you didn't tell me the cheese was good?"
I absolutely love Shadowboxer by Fiona Apple. I first heard this song and Sleep To Dream on the radio in high school (shout out 91X) and was totally blown away. My brother Naje bought me her CD and told me she was around our age. I think he knew that I would be inspired and love her music right away. I often saw her as a big sister and wanted to write and sing just like her at some point.
But...(why can't we start sentences with this again?) my voice changed at some point and while I am highly influenced by Fiona, Alanis, Mariah, Brandon, Maynard, Prince, Alana, Nikka and Trena, I like to think I have my own unique voice.
I had fun writing that sentence.
Cue the piano and drums...

Oh wow!!! I don’t think I’ve heard that song before but I love it. Your voice always takes me somewhere. This time it was to a speakeasy drowning my heart in a bottle of moonshine. The emotion was off the charts. The groans are everything. To say you are are a singer is too limiting. You are so much more. The world needs to hear YOU!!!
