I disagree with your point about Hulk. Peter is surrounded by people that are in don't way a reflection of him... Castle is a loner and so is Peter in this film... Banner is surpressing a monstrous side of himself which Peter is looking to do. If you replaced Banner with Connors you'd have the opposite... The lizard wants to embrace the changes, not limit them. Peter's arc in this one is embracing both Spider-Man and Peter, to explore that he needs a character that shows the same of embracing an alter-ego, one that has (seemingly) succeeded at surpressing it.
"I.P. FREELY!" 馃ぃ Dammit Daren, yeah done it again. 馃ぃ
Great video, Darren. Really interesting delve into the well how this corporate megaliths are trying to define art and content. I've forgotten how good the into the Spiderverse movies are. Both are phenomenal. And I've never finished the 3rd Sam Raimi Spiderman.
While I broadly agree with points raised in the movie, I think the solution shouldn't be to suddenly flesh out all the minor characters that don't have much depth, but to cut them out completely. The biggest sin of Brand New Day is being overstuffed, so the priority should be simplyfing, not complexifying. Sam Raimi movies have their own sins, they have the flavour and the characters, but they get very silly.
I liked Brand New Day, I think it is best Tom Spidey. While flawed, first time I wanted to cheer for Spidey again. But I agree about these movies fighting against to go deeper and staying very surface level. Can next Tom movie be allowed to be good? Not sure. As you say, power dynamic have shifted. Disney is grasping at straws. Sony is realising power of web boy again. I am of opinion that because of incredibly strong micromanagement over "invested IPs" that fight between creativity and IP checklisting will rage on.
