1:15 Lakan is the Master Strategist of the Army i think. Think of it like a secretary of defense. He's very high up there, and incredibly smart. That explains why you didn't notice that jinshi was referring to Lakan when he was talking to lihaku and giving him the 20k $$$, and testing him to see if he's a pawn in "the master strategist's scouts" Also lakan has a condition that doesn't let him distinguish faces. It's a real world condition, they all seem blurry and he can't connect the dots on facial characteristics. I think it's called Facial Aphasia. Also interesting enough that maomao is the only girl we've seen that doesn't have a pawn face, and he actaully sees HER. And meesh is right, it was intentional with the nails, she was taunting him with nails similar to a color that he'd recognize from his memory. Shishou, Concubine Loulan's father is similar to Lakan in terms of being extremely important in ranking, so much so that the previous emperess dowager used to carry favor with him directly, like they said, even the emperor walks on egg shells around him and jinshi is frustrated that he can't know what he's thinking, because he's unpredictable according to jinshi, while Lakan is a master strategist chess player.
i saw your older reaction pop up on youtube earlier and i've been at the edge of my seat for this patreon newer content for this and spy family haha... i thinkn i chugged 3 coffees keeping myself awake lol All i can say is, ya'll aint ready for the end of the season and even that's not even close to how amazing next season is too. I'm glad you're enjoying the slow burn though, even "filler" episodes like this one aren't actually filler,but contain insanely hidden lore and metaphores, but you'll see.
