Help Us Choose: FMA:B Dub or Sub? ⚡️

Hey everyone! ✨

As we get ready to start Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, we wanted to check in with you all first. We’ve noticed that the fandom is pretty split between the dub and the sub, and both sides make great points.

Which version would you prefer we watch — dub or sub?

Drop your vote in the poll and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments. We’re excited to experience this series for the first time!

I don’t know why dub anime get so much hate I get it if you wanna watch the show in the original language it’s in that’s fine but if your just hating dub just to hate dub screw you cause most of the people who hate literally speak fucking English

Back in the 90s and before it was understandable due to most anime in the west just seen as being for kids. So censorship and “kid friendly” modifications were made to many anime. But that hasn’t been a thing for a long time. 100% of the time these days people demanding sub over dub claim crap like “the Japanese voice actors are more talented, better immersion of the series, etc” is pure fetishization.

I usually hate English dub but the audio director did a great job with this anime. They followed the atmosphere very well

Rare to see Dub even being an option among watchers, so I would go Dub and run with it.

normally i recommend the original japanese with sub, but FMAB is probably THE only one that you can go with either and have a decent experience. Personally some of the jokes in the DUB are cringe as hell when they got translated to english VA, but if you can put those and some loud noises aside, you might enjoy the dub for this one. My experience with both is that the English VA is much easier to adapt to in early episodes for world building, even if the last quarter of episodes is significantly better in SUB. Both are fine though for THIS anime specifically (no other anime). Plus maybe it will let you girls rest up the reading skills so that you dont need too many rewatches to catch up, and that means more free times for other shows afterwards (like Erased, and Apothecary Diaries :P )

To say no other anime is a bit much even though it’s really a select few where the dub is actually really good but nowadays dubs have gotten way better like the English va’s for Gachiakuta have been killing it.a

Generally, i am of the opinion that people should at least try out the subs first. However, in this case i think I would prefer the dub. Partly because I think it's good quality and enjoyable, but i'm mostly just selfishly thinking of logistics. I'm gonna be watching both the ep and your reaction on one screen, so the subs will be smaller and it might be harder to read them and understand what's going on. With the dub, I don't need to worry about reading. :P

The dub is excellent quality, similar to Haikyuu which some people also wanted to see. Some great VAs in FMAB such as Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham. I won't spoil who they voice ;)

It's one of only a couple anime where I think they did an amazing job with the dubbed version, and the characters are supposed to be Western, in a world where Asian people do exist, so it fits the story as well for them to be speaking English. Cowboy Bebop is the only other anime I can think of in which I prefer the English dub, as they also did a great job and I think it fits the characters and story better.

I’m definitely the minority here lol. I originally watched FMAB in dub and swore it was the best dub ever. Maybe 5 or so years later I rewatched it and decided to give the sub a chance. (It was super hard for the first 2 episodes trying to get used to it) By the time I finished the series I felt that sub is definitely the superior option. But I will agree the dub is close to perfect for this series !

Uhh whatever version where you watch My Hero Academia instead. I’m sorry, I KNOW FMAB is a beloved anime. I tried to get into it, I really did. But I just couldn’t. Catch y’all on the flip side I guess

I usually watch sub but I really enjoy and prefer the dub for FMAB! The humor in this anime is quick and will click a little faster watching in dub for english speakers.

FMA: B, Cowboy Bebop, and a few others are quintessential dubs.

1 of maybe a handful choices where I would pick dub and the others are mostly 90s shows I grew up with. In this case though cant go wrong with either, direction of the dub was just really well done and fits
