Ukraine Strikes Energy Facilities 1800 Miles Away || Sept 15, 2026
Last week, the Ukrainians successfully hit natural gas processing infrastructure in Urengoy. These facilities are located ~1800 miles from the front in northwest Siberia, which means Ukraine can now hit nearly all of Russia's major economic infrastructure (besides the Far East).
Serious damage to these facilities isn't just costly for the Russians; it could eventually jeopardize power-generation equipment around Moscow and St. Petersburg. Expect things to get much uglier in the coming months.

And yet 2.2 million dead nazzis and their Western allies is the price for Ukraine, all the while the West is slipping into oblivion with all their acts by lunatics
YAY!!!! 👍👍👍
The basic technology of dropping out NGLs (Natural Gas Liquids, i.e. propane, butane. . .) isn’t rocket science. It’s a High School physics equation of temperature, pressure and time to condense these out. Guessing the problem is more likely the gas chemistry (like sour gas) requiring specific metallurgy or lack of quality control on welding pressure vessels and piping for this service. Curious if anyone knows specifics.
Having at least a little experience in oil/gas (Engineer doing control system design and programming) I'm thinking PZ is on the right track. The sour components (H2S) get removed early. The rest gets processed. My work was on the production side (getting it out of the ground and over to a refinery for processing) and not the refining side. That being said, I'd think the basics to separate the methane (natural gas) from the heavier hydrocarbons would involve compressing, cooling, then expanding which would drop the temperature allowing the heavier products to condense out (just a guess). As for utilization, any system using natural gas for energy production is going to need the combustion products in a gas form. If heavier products are being included and those are condensing before the combustion process, then that'll indeed cause problems for the mechanical equipment. Turbines don't like liquid. Compressors (not to be confused with pumps) don't like liquid. Valves designed for gas service don't like liquids. Sounds as though Ukraine is doing an excellent job selecting targets. Now if they could just do something about those pesky ballistic missiles.
Slava Ukraini!
Think Vlad wants a mulligan?
What do you make of trumps "asking" Ukraine to stop hitting diesel production in Russia? If I were Zelenskyy, I'd say FU but that is just me. Does trump have any sway anymore?
Ukrainians are fighting for their lives. If effective weapons are available to them, they have not only the right but the duty to use them.
Please comment on the ship going via the arctic from Ningbo, China to the UK. Abcut of 40 day to 20 day transit time.
It amazes me what real countries with an existential crisis are capable of doing, Ukraine and Iran have taken a tremendous beating at the hands of imperial aggressors, and yet they’re able to keep innovating and fighting back… hopefully China is reconsidering. It’s military options with Taiwan and will stick to the economic pressure campaign, I have a feeling China wouldn’t fair any better than the US or Russia attacking a middle power
Ukraine: the democratically elected government has popular support from its people and uses innovation from its educated population to fight off a giant hegemonic neighbor. Iran: a theocracy with only 20% popular support whose goal is to kill "the enemies of Islam" no matter how badly it hurts its own people. I'm not sure that your comparison is apt.
Just when I was starting to think we could all get along and play nice together
What about the news about Russia using more jet propelled drones that are getting through to Ukraine including Kyiv? (Article posted yesterday in analyst discussion chat) Curious as to how those compare to what Ukraine’s drones are doing.
Peter, any chance you can do a general update on the war? There are a few channels I subscribe to but more often than not they’re tinted in favour of Ukraine and so every day reads as today is the day Russia falls. A reality check as we head into winter - no matter how depressing - would go along way
Russia is bombing the hell out of Ukraine using glide-bomb technology. These are 500- to 1000-pound bombs (or the equivalent in kg) that are launched by aircraft still inside Russia with a 50- to 100-mile range to hit specific targets accurately. These HURT and are much more powerful than drones or missiles with vastly smaller payloads. 50-60 of these bombs are being thrown at Ukraine every day. They cannot be intercepted (too small to target) and will be the death of Ukraine eventually. https://youtu.be/zIqxR4H2yhc?t=2
Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦
And ukraine and Canada as peter reported will be joining together to construct 2 million drones . POO-TIN better quit or run away with Cheeto to some unknown island.
If Ukraine is receiving satellite intel that Trump can turn off... perhaps they will feel obligated to honor Trump's request to stop bombing Russian diesel production and storage sites. Also at potential risk... continued sale of Patriot missiles? How far will Trump go to protect Putin and future business with him.
Unlikely, the Europeans would probably order Trump to turn the satellites back on or risk economic losses… Or the Europeans would just allow the Ukrainians to use their networks… The French and British systems are pretty good. Essentially, we would be angering the Europeans, not getting what we want anyway, and then losing future power in the US/European relationship
Love to see it.
Does this mean the Russians have to choose between decreased electricity for Moscow and St. Petersburg in the short run or degrading their power plants in the longer run? How quickly will their electric power plants degrade if they use the mixed gas to generate power (weeks, months, years)?
Would love to know the answer to this.
I can’t wait to watch Russia burn. Russia deserves all that is coming its way. All of it 🥳.
I'm worried that there are a bunch of people in Africa and Asia who are watching Trump and MAGA sink the American economy to enrich themselves and their cronies. I bet they're thinking the same thing about the US that you're saying about Putin's Russia..
Do you really think both Russia and Ukraine will accept Trump's ask to stop bombing refineries?
Putin laughed at the request and continued Russia's bombing of Ukraine, emphasis on the areas civilians live; Ukraine paused for all of ~9 hours and then hit the Syzran refinery.
