The Political Future of Volodymyr Zelensky || Sept 10, 2026

Volodymyr Zelensky’s historical legacy is still being written. Sure, he's remained highly popular as a wartime leader and would likely be reelected if elections were held tomorrow. But a lot of his legacy depends upon the outcome of the Ukraine War.

Zelensky has overseen a major transformation in modern warfare, and he'll undoubtedly receive the credit for it. However, his legacy won't be determined by how many fancy drones were made, but rather by victory or defeat.

Remember Zelensky's remark denying the US offer to evacuate him in the early day of the Russian invasion? "I need ammo, not a ride". This man has heart, guts, and balls.

Just have to say that I loved the "Maaaaaaaaaybe. . . ." you gave us, Peter.

The question for Ukraine is: who succeeds Zelensky? At some point, he won't be President of Ukraine. The critical years after the war's conclusion will determine how successful Ukraine is as a state.

Haha! Peter, your analysis in this one reminded me of a Mitch Hedberg joke. “I played in a death-metal band. People either loved us or hated us. Or they thought we were OK.”

Until the military can tag and shoot down drones and missiles cheaply and at scale, the ENTIRE world's stockpile of ships, tanks, jets, armored vehicles, logistic support, and possibly artillery is completely outmatched. I cannot look at a modern tank with its heavy armor and large cannon these days and a multimillion price tag and not just label it "target."

Win or lose history will remember Zelenskyy as a Ukrainian hero who resisted Russian imperialism instead of betraying his people and running away. Trump will be remembered as that crazy ass weak US president who betrayed NATO/Europe and sided with the Russians. Zelenskyy will probably be credited as the president who revolutionalize asymetric warfare using cheap drones. History is being made today.

I guess it IS possible for a person with little to no experience and knowledge of "government" to be a successful leader.

A
Ann Hoch · September 12, 2026

We know that the opposite is true, don't we.

From being a political comedian to an outstanding politician is crazy. He in my opinion is one of democracy's great leader. Cheers

Does that mean there's hope for Gutfeld? 🤣

I don't give a shit about history. As I will remember him he was a very good man who started on a campaign of reform and became a vanguard against tyranny. He is massively degrading the Russian economy and infrastructure while fending off pressure from the American Idiot in Charge. As for history, it is written by the winner. And in this case all of Europe and the world is the winner so I think he'll do mighty fine there.

If it’s option 3, he will have Putin’s scalp as a memento, too.

We may get an answer sooner than the next two years. Russia could very well completely implode. The last few times it's happened, in 1917 and 1991, almost nobody saw it coming and it came out of nowhere. That could very well happen again. At any time.

Is there room in that little stand of trees for a hammock?

There is something that us hikers try to avoid. That is "deadfall."

Zelensky deserves our respect. He certainly has mine. You couldn't ask for much more from the man. The home front, the Russians, Trump - that's a lot on his plate. No matter how this ends, he's a great Ukrainian.

J
Jan Kingston · September 13, 2026

He has my respect as well.

History is a fickle mistress. But I think it mostly comes down to whether or not Zelensky and Ukrainian resolve can outlive Putin and Russian state's appetite for this war. If they can, not only does Zelensky benefit, but Ukraine stands to become a hub of technological development and international investment.

Ukraine, Russia, and Europe are literally dying out. They're likely to be populated by immigrants from the MENA region & those Europeans they mix with by 2075. The native white European population will be mostly gone.

From demographic standpoint - what do you say about South Korea and Japan? Will they "fail" as well by that logic? A ton of other countries as well?

T
TG1080 · September 10, 2026

great question

t
tom cameron · September 10, 2026

Very true. If England was invaded after the Battle of Britain, Churchill's war efforts would be seen not that differently from Chamberlain's diplomatic efforts - nice try, but ultimately not successful.

"The London Blitz" lasted for 8 months. Kiev has been under attack for over 4 YEARS.
