(Video) Game

I am here with a new idea again: Video as Game.

Imagine a relaxing driving game where you drive alone on a single lane road inside a vehicle.

What is the freedom you have?

  • You can speed up and slow down

  • You can move left-right a little bit

  • Corners are wider so you have more freedom to move left-right

  • You can turn your head

But the freedom you have is pretty limited.

If we use recorded video for environment and render the vehicle on top of video with a few tricks you have the whole gameplay (except turning the head but we can auto turn the head for corners so you can have proper experience).

Also with some simple tricks we can also have up/down movement of head inside vehicle to get more natural feedback.

To make something like this it shouldn't be a video from real life but it should be pre-rendered video because of some limitations.

If we make a game like this, what are the advantages?

  • Realistic objects

  • Realistic lighting

  • Unlimited realistic render distance

  • Unlimited realistic details

  • Better performance because only vehicle/vehicle shadows/particles rendered

  • We can have snow/dust etc particles with a little bit extra work

And disadvantages?

  • Cannot turn your head, automated for corners

  • Cannot have moving pre-rendered objects (wind for grass/trees)

  • Has to be pre-rendered for every weather/time of day

  • Big file size for each environment/weather/time of day

  • It might require minimum speed limit for straight roads to keep file size low

  • Cannot use other cameras, only first person camera will be available

I think with realistic force feedback, realistic environment sounds, high quality vehicle interiors, realistic vehicles sounds, dirt for window and dust/snow particles etc we can have a great relaxing driving experience even with a mid-range pc.

I was playing ETS2/ATS for this reason, to drive a hour a day to chill and rest. But quality is not good enough.

What do you think, would you play something like this when you want to chill and have a realistic driving experience with actually realistic graphics?

Debo hacer ajustes ?

I am aware of not working with the latest Reshade, will you be working on it to work with latest reshade b/c there are some shaders from reshade that I use on my game, so hope that this comes to light to work with latest reshade. Thanks for Your Attention! Great job keep up the great work thanks for the mod you have done.

We all have the same problem. Even the creators of the game who turn a blind eye and pretend they don't see it. There's probably nothing they can do about it. It's the only reason I use method D where the flickering is less noticeable, although I'm thrilled with method B. I wish Snowy Moon could do something. It has been said many times but if he could he would have fixed it by now I think.

Look, most people here are just sharing their opinions — stay away from the ones that might kill your motivation. Usually, when I ask people “What if I did something like this?” before actually doing it, no matter what the idea is, most of them respond negatively because they live in a world they've built in their own heads. Trust me, people’s opinions constantly change. You already have a solid idea in your mind, so go ahead and do it. Don’t care about the opinions of the fools here. Do what you’ve envisioned, and once it’s done, then ask for feedback — that way you’ll get much better input.

I don't know what to say my friend. Sounds interesting indeed! I play these games (mostly ATS) because I love driving trucks, I'm a retired truck driver, and because there is not any other better game out there at this moment. I tried all, and, unfortunately, these 2 games are the most "closer" to a good real driving experience. This is also the reason SCS don't improve these games. They're taking advantage of being "alone" practically on the market and of living in a world full of ignorant people who will buy any $hit with colors, so they can sell their "garbage" at gold price. I'm sure if someone would seriously think to create a good similar simulator, that would "scare" SCS and maybe they will start to improve. Because improving these to games is not difficult when you are a multimillionaire company, and for years you stolen money from people doing nothing but selling copy/paste maps. No, it's very easy to find and pay people like Snowy Moon with real talent and skills to make great things and pay for an actual modern powerful game engine. But why don't you just do nothing and keep selling your colored garbage if lot of ignorant would buy it right away and beside that they would praise you. For me, 4 years ago I decided not to spend 1 cent of my money anymore for SCS garbage, as a form of manifestation of the fact that I'm not stupid and I don't "buy" their idiotic lies! Playing "for free" ETS/ATS makes me feel much much better and somehow relieved of the fact I play a bad ugly game, stuttering, flickering, shiting, all the way! So, if you (SCS) give my some "copy/paste maps as "New DLC", I give you my middle finger up saying to you (SCS) FY from the bottom of my heart, you can't cheat me anymore, because I cheat you better! And since few years now, I'm lucky with you my dear Snowy Moon, your TAA being a real incredible awesome improvement for my games. If Snowy Moon would create a better truck simulator I'm quite sure some miserables multimillionaire in Czech Republic would suffer a big stroke!

Basically, you want to make a semi-interactive video. I believe this is an even more specific niche than what you've already worked on with ETS2 and ATS. Imagine having hundreds of gigabytes of road footage to achieve a result similar to a YouTube video. It doesn't make sense.

s
sebastien fritsch · October 12, 2025

Excellent idea if you need help with sounds I'm in the sound business, well I'm a musician, but I've also made a lot of clean engine loops without cracking since I've been playing ETS2 and ATS for a long time.

That’s a really interesting idea! I love the concept of focusing on relaxation and realism instead of complex gameplay. It could be a great experience for players who just want to enjoy the scenery and unwind for a while. But yeah, the limited freedom might feel strange at first. still, I’d definitely try something like this.

M
Michi B · October 12, 2025

As for chilling in a very realistic environment, I completely agree. Even if there are limitations, as long as the entire road width can be used, it could be a real blast.

I think most ETS2/ATS players are like this, thats why I want to make it like this

서
서호 안 · October 11, 2025

I’d say no — it’d look amazing, but feel boring fast. Since the road is just a pre-rendered video, you can’t really explore or make choices. It’d feel more like watching a video than playing a game. Cool idea for relaxing, though — maybe better as an interactive chill experience than a real game.

S
Snowy Moon · October 11, 2025

This is for people like me to chill and drive. When you drive in ETS2/ATS everywhere feels same :D Literally each country or region has some uniqueness but every one of them inside feels like you are driving at same place just with small landscape changes. People like you play the game for different reasons so it might get boring pretty fast. But the only thing I did when I was playing ETS2 carry the load from Balkans to Portugal and from Portugal to Balkans everyday on same route. Because that was the best looking long route without mods. People like me shutdown their brain, play the game and we don't even remember the roads so we don't get bored using same route. We don't want to have choices because we don't want to use our brain. This is our resting session :D But we want good looking realistic graphics and sound as much as we can get. Even physics doesn't matter if it feels good to drive.

O
Ondra · October 11, 2025

To be honest, Iam not interested. I like SCS maps, and Iam fine with it. Only one thing I dont like about ETS2 and ATS is graphics. And thats why I have your awesome mod :] For me, this looks like a waste of time. Just focus on graphics in the original game maps and DLCs. But maybe graphics with your mod is brilliant how it is now so just keep it updated with the new game versions. Thats my opinion. And thank you again for your work.

S
Snowy Moon · October 11, 2025

This is for people like me. I play ETS2/ATS to chill and drive, I don't care about where are I drive or the map or trucks or anything else. I just want to drive and chill. And for players like me game itself doesn't need to be realistic if it feels good even physics. The only thing matters is graphics, sound and good feeling while driving without anything challenging.

M
MIKEYZ VLOGZ · October 11, 2025

B
Beddo Reis · October 11, 2025

I think it can be done with "3D gaussian splatting". I don't have a full idea. Could you take a look? If you can, I'd like to do the sounds for the game.

S
Snowy Moon · October 11, 2025

Probably not, because it still requires rendering very large scene meanwhile rendering video is pretty lightweight

Amigo65 · October 11, 2025

I like the idea. I'm playing just as U, for driving, looking at the environment & chill. For me, playing ETS2 is like taking a trip, seeing places where I will never go in real life, visiting the world. So, YES, it is important how real the environment I see is. I say do it! I'll buy it and I'll like it 100% sure.

S
Snowy Moon · October 11, 2025

I think most people who plays ETS2/ATS are also like this, ETS2/ATS is popular because you can chill and drive for hours

M
MonsoFNR · October 11, 2025

I think that'll be very good, but their probably wont be any pull if you sell it for a high price, it sounds like a good fun side project type of thing with a niche market. I personally would love something like that, realistic graphics is the most important factor for driving games for me, especially if its more chill. There's no other game like that but its something I'd play a lot for sure.

S

S
Snowy Moon · October 11, 2025

Nope, imagine a game where you drive on single lane road with realistic graphics

l
lukky · October 11, 2025

I'm not sure I can fully imagine it. But if I understand correctly, it will be like a YouTube video where you just go straight ahead without turning around or looking at objects next to you. I don't know, I also play ETS and ATS primarily for relaxation, but that also means that while driving, I simply turn to the right/left for a moment and look at a monument, bridge, buildings, or nature, etc. So I would probably miss that freedom quite a bit, but I can't say 100% whether I would like it or not until I see it. In any case, I think you should definitely work on the 1:1 map project.

S
Snowy Moon · October 11, 2025

No, this is a like normal driving where you drive, turn but there are limitations. Like its single lane road so you cannot change lanes. Just imagine a game where you drive on single lane road, this is literally same, only gameplay limitation is you cannot turn your head freely, it will auto-turn for corners

D

Now you want to make a game that can't have a free perspective, and it's hard for me to imagine whether it can survive. Unless it's special

S
Snowy Moon · October 11, 2025

When I was playing ETS2/ATS I only used first person camera, I didn't turn my head not even for corners. This is what most people do when they just want to chill and rest. I didn't even use pedals. This is not for a player like you but its for players like me

冲
冲 雷 · October 11, 2025

I appreciate your courage, but I don't know why you have such an idea. At present, there are indeed many problems in ETS/ATS that have not been improved. They are always promising something, but the result is obviously postponed indefinitely. They always release some unimportant documents DLC, and they cut corners on some truck models, which is the last thing I can accept. It's like a job now, you just need to go from the starting point to the end point, which makes the whole tour dull and uninteresting. If you run long-distance orders, I believe you will get sleepy halfway.I hope it can be more realistic and have a more realistic interactive system instead of using some animations. Of course, you can have a choice if you don't like too complicated operations. I know that this kind of workload is very heavy, but I can't always do something meaningless in every version iteration. Personally, I think it's a waste of time and money.

S
Snowy Moon · October 11, 2025

This is a new game to chill & drive. Not a simulation game so its not going to be for people who wants to have simulation experience. A lot of people play ETS2/ATS to chill & drive including me. My target is people like me

I like the idea! Honestly, that's why I also play ETS2 : to chill and relax, on top of that, listen to music sometimes. However, as you said, graphics are not eyecatching, it can get boring quick. I would want to have such kinda game just to drive straight and enjoy the music, no need to much gameplay. But the thing is, for example, there are several games I had seen on steam that have the concept you say, like some train or tram "simulators", so I hope you don't end up making something like that lol. However, if you make something unique and new, I bet it will be very cool ! So I say you give it a try if you have the motivation and time.

S
Snowy Moon · October 11, 2025

This is not like them, this is like a proper normal driving game but pre-rendered video used for environment and projection adjusted for small movements, not like train "sims" with recorded videos where you do nothing :D
