Genetics Overhaul: Main Mod 1.5 Major Update (Preview)

09.10.2026 UPDATE: Added the Spanish and French translation links

If you haven't played with this mod yet, read the original post HERE.

Randomize Appearance

Basically, I implemented the CAS function in the live mode, but that's not just random. Instead, my mod applies changes based on the parents and grandparents' genetics, considering your mod settings (inheritance from parent's chance and enable / disable grandparents presets inheritance).

How it works

With testingcheats enabled, Shift + click on a Sim who has both parents (it doesn't work with single parent in genealogy) and you'll see a new menu category.

Keep in mind, that you can't just 'go back' since that's the live mode, so I advise to save before using this function, but you can edit a Sim in CAS as usual and you can fix some details later.

Also, in rare cases it seems like eyeballs got bigger, but you just need to refresh their displaying on a Sim entering CAS.

Also, face, voice and body randomization are available for teens and older, since children have mapped genetics for their age. It also works with pets. Though, you can change skin tone, natural eye and hair color traits right from the infant age. Sometimes it seems like skin tone hasn't changed, but that's just a game visual bug. Enter CAS and you'll see the changes.

In the first place, I created this function for cases when your Sims or just neighbors aged up but turned out to be somehow ugly lol. It may be a bad luck or a game bug (read the next section), but in any case I think it's much more fun (and fast) to randomize according to ascendants' genetics instead of sculpting the appearance from the scratch or roll the CAS dice.

Auto Fix on Growing into Teens

What do I mean: maybe you already noticed the bug, when your beautiful child turns into teen and suddenly they got a weird body or face. Partly it's fixed by another mod of this collection, but sometimes it's caused by more serious problems.

I won't go into much depth of coding, but all Sims have two types of modifiers (=sliders values): the basic ones and the aged up ones. That's to remember the data of inherited modifiers which are available only for adults. When a child ages up, they're applied and the basic ones must be equal to the aged up ones, so the genetics is coherent.

IDK why, but for some reason they may differ, which leads to very strange appearance. It happens in the vanilla game too.

However, if you have a report of this Sim's birth by my mod (you can find it in the /reports folder in this mod folder), the mod will analyze the new appearance data on aging up, and if there are incorrect, then the algorithm will clear invalid values and apply the correct ones from the report data.

If you don't have a report for this Sim, you can just randomize their appearance with the new randomization function. It's a more correct way to act, as modifying the appearance in CAS won't reset the invalid data and it may be inherited by the next generations.

Warning Messages

Now, if something goes wrong during birth, you'll be notified! Also, I recommend you to save the SonozakiSisters_Genetics_Overhaul.log file somewhere as there is debug data too but the log file is reset on each game launch.

Genetics Restrictions

I added two new traits: EA Genetics and No Occult Mutations. The first one ensures, that the children of this Sim will receive the genetics based on the EA algorithm instead of the mod's one. The second one disabled any occult mutations on children of this Sim, even if you set chances in the settings.

You can add / remove these traits with the cheats from the Genetics Restrictions sub category. The EA Genetics trait is available for pets too.

It looks like a fear trait, but it has nothing in common with fear trackers and this system. I just made it this way to exclude the possibility of these traits being inherited. I mean, you definitely want some control on such things.

New Settings

Report Writing

By default, reports are created for each birth in your save. This way you always have the data of possibly incorrect birth, so it's much more easier for me to debug / investigate a possible issue with these reports + a report required for auto fixes on aging up. And you can just don't look in this folder or delete the reports you think you don't need.

But if you don't care about all Sims in your save, you can switch this setting to writing reports only for the player Sims.

Absolutely Random Occult Mutations

In the previous mod version, mutations may be passed only through generations: say, your father was a Vampire, you and your partner are plain humans, but your child may be a Vampire too.

But with this update you can set chances for mutations into occults regardless of this Sim genealogy! Perfect for various mythology and fantasy gameplay, as well as you just want to add a bit of chaos and magic if you get bored of non occult and realistic gameplay.

You can set the chances for each occult type separately, of course. By default, the mutations are turned off. I haven't removed the old genealogy based mutation setting, you can find it in the Non Occult Mutations category as well.

Alien Inheritance Fix

Alien skin color

First of all, I was annoyed that children get quite a random skin color. Yeah, alien skin tones somehow 'blend' too, but you can't get purple mixing green and blue tones, it just doesn't make any sense. So I created my own blending system. Here are the pics so you will understand it easier.

Each of this tone can be inherited either from the same one or from the similar, a bit lighter / darker version:

Aqua tones can be a result of blending of green and blue tones or be a result of inheritance from another aqua tone. Dark aqua scheme:

Aqua scheme:

Aqua-white scheme (this one can be inherited from light blue instead of dark aqua, as they're much more similar):

Of course, you can disable blending entirely, with a new setting 'Blend Alien Skin Tones', by default it's enabled.

Human Form Fix

Actually, it also affects some human children if one of parents is an alien too. If you ever played with aliens, you probably know that their disguise has nothing in common with their relatives appearance. Despite face features and body figure are being inherited from the disguise (I was kinda surprised), skin tone, eye and hair color are basically random. I don't even know, how it supposed to be a disguise, if your neighbors see like five entirely different Sims which call themselves a normal family.

So, with this update, the mod checks these appearance attributes, when a Sim becomes infant, to apply fixups for skin tone, eye and hair colors if needed.

Half Alien Setting

If you don't want to get human children with alien skin tones, you can disable half aliens in the settings now, so you'll have only true aliens or humans (depending on game rules). The game will ignore the MCCC setting of half alien baby chance, but no conflicts in general. I made it for two reasons: first, maybe you don't use MCCC; second, you don't want to make the detailed occult settings, but rather just turn off half aliens (that's me actually lmao).

More Various Random (when needed)

Several people asked me to dig into randomness of generated children, because most of them inherit the same hair / eye color and / or look pretty similar even if they're not twins. I couldn't reproduce it (and trust me I generate dozens of children lol), so I don't know if that's just a bug on the 1.126 version, or it occurs rarely, but still I found a way to increase randomness. This technical update doesn't affect negatively inheritance if it already works fine in your game, but should help if you experienced a similar issue.

Fixes

First of all, seems EA fixed the hair / eye color switching bug themselves on the 1.127 patch, as I couldn't reproduce it in the vanilla game anymore, neither with this mod (and it wasn't a reason, just to be clear). However, if you faced this issue before, I recommend to enter CAS and switch the hair / eye color to another one and switch to the correct one back. This is to ensure the game actually updated the genetics data.

As for the mods bugs:

  • Fixed the bug which caused disabling the Recreate Offspring cheat

  • Fixed the eye color reset on aging up in some cases

  • Fixed the NoneType LE on birth in rare cases: that's not a compatibility issue, just sometimes the game doesn't pass the grandparents genealogy for some reason. Now in such cases the EA genetics is applied and you'll be notified about that

  • Prevented this mod's genetics algorithm to be used when at least one of parents is transformed into Werewolf during birth. I didn't know it was possible to even give birth in this form to begin with lol. This is done to prevent missing the appearance data

  • Fixed minor algorithm bugs

Also I made a major refactoring due to the growth of this mod and added more debug tools (will be helpful if I investigate an issue you faced). It's just a technical improvement, but anyway I put a lot of effort into this update!

Actually I think I forgot about a couple of other fixes lol, sorry, it took a whole month.

Nothing changed in the requirements and installation steps. Just delete the old files (you can keep the settings, they will be updated with new default values automatically) and make sure you place this mod no deeper than one subfolder in the Mods folder. More about instructions HERE.

F.A.Q.

Don't forget about the F.A.Q. section in the original mod post!

Randomization is not available?

  • This Sim has no parents or just a single one

  • They're not old enough (face, voice and body randomization is available only for teens and older)

  • Skin tone, natural eye and hair color are available only for humans

How to revert it?

You can't as long as you haven't saved before using this feature as I described in the post. But you can edit the Sim in CAS anyway

Skin tone hasn't changed?

Most probably, it's a game displaying bug, just enter CAS to see the changes

A Sim looks weird on aging up?

Read more about that in the Auto Fix on Growing into Teens section

How to set the non occult mutations chances?

Read the FAQ section in the original mod post, the same rules are here, just select the Non Occult Mutations category in the settings

Hi ! Thank you for this awesome mod ❤️. I have the same issue with version 1.5 every time for twins, : the same hair and eye colors are selected. However, it works perfectly for other siblings 👌😁.

Where is version 1.4? I have 1.3. Will it break my game if I use the outdated version, or is it safe to use?

S
SonozakiSisters · September 24, 2026

There was the 1.4 version, but I updated the mod while it's in Early Access, so now it's 1.5 right away. All these versions are fine, just the newest one has more features and a couple of fixes

I have a question: Will it apply the skins for half-aliens if we disabled the Blue Skin Babies on MCCC? Or I will need to disable the feature in both mods? (I understand if we don't want it we can just disable in your mod but it's just a curiosity)

S
SonozakiSisters · September 23, 2026

Are you asking, which skin tone a half alien baby will have with disabled blue skin babies on MCCC and not disabled half aliens in my mod settings? Well, they *should* have a normal skin tone, but for some reason half aliens are still blue even though I already removed my mod and set this setting in MCCC. I guess MCCC has a bug then

I’ll say it again: I love this mod! Thanks a lot for the fixes. Do you plan to implement genetic inheritance for hair texture in the future?

S
SonozakiSisters · September 23, 2026

Thanks! If you're using the better inheritance module, then it also considers the hair texture. Well, until the hairstyle has proper tags
