Misa did give up half her life for the Shinigami eyes, but remember -- her lifespan was lengthened by Gelus (the Shinigami in love with Misa that sacrificed himself to save her life). When a Shinigami sacrifices themselves to save a person, they die and their remaining lifespan is added to the human they saved. So yes, Misa did cut her lifespan by half when she made the Shinigami eyes deal, but her lifespan was already unnaturally long for a human thanks to Gelus.

I do think there's weirdly some metanarrative for how this story can feel without Light as Kira despite his obvious place as the antagonist, it's strange to say you miss it but you definitely do, I struggle to figure out whether the contrived and confusing parts of this plot are intentional or not as well. I was gonna mention how Death note was made in such a commodified state of the anime industry. Not to say it isn't now, but since big household names like AOT started to spring up there was a vested interest in the actual art and storytelling of it all, shows were treat like real stories and I think that's what shows like Vinland are born from, where shows like Death note were still being treat like something to pump out week to week and only big episodes would get their due diligence, the focus was on merchandising. That is to say, even while knowing what comes next in the story vaguely, I wonder what actually makes this section of the story feel like this, the plot or the production?

good ep! I really miss seeing L properly in action, but it's been good to see more of the side characters for a bit.

I'm so excited for you. We're finally getting some pieces, and the start of the endgame is approaching. During one of the intermissions where they show the rules to the death note, they explain that, if a person gave up half their life to get the eyes, they don't regain it when they relinquish the death note.

also, Misa got the remainder of gelus' life which could mean anything from a normal human life span to hundreds of years. (at this point in the story)
