Death Note - Episode 7

You might want to pay some more attention to the extra rules they show in the middle they add some interesting flavour to the use of the death note and the shinigami
I find it a little weird that Light has yet to question who decides what is "reasonable" for someone to do when writing conditions in the Notebook. IMO it's obvious that Naomi would never kill herself, so who decides that it's within reason for her to "kill herself" through the wishes of the Notebook? Is it just based on an outside perspective, a Shinigami, or maybe even some "God"? Light also only tested this suicide method with criminals, who are way more likely to be suicidal, so I thought that it was interesting that he assumed this method of killing would work on anyone. Not a critique, just a thought.
l read somewhere that the command suicide would work on anyone actually purely because everyone has considered it at some point which I think is kind of stupid, and that’s not something Light would know either. In this situation I think since Naomi is distraught over her husband and is mourning, she’s more likely to have suicidal thoughts even subconsciously whether it’s losing the will to live or feeling a depressive emptiness, so in that sense she’s more “likely” to kill herself even though she’s the type of person to want to catch kira instead of giving up. In any case the whole “It has to be realistic to what the person would do or think” rule is a bit vague because I don’t think it has to be something the person would actually do and that the rule was misinterpreted due to poor explanation. From my point of view it seems as though as long as you have knowledge of something you have the capability of acting in relation to it. For example, the prisoner who didn’t follow the order of writing down “I know L is suspicious of the Japanese police” not only doesn’t know L or what he does, but he also doesn’t know that he’s working with the Japanese police, however if that prisoner was provided with the information “L is a detective working to catch Kira, he’s also working with the Japanese police to do this” then I think the death note would work and the prisoner would write down what they were ordered to even if they would’ve never actually come to that conclusion otherwise, the fact that they had the knowledge of the Japanese police and that L is working with them means that it’s technically “possible” for them to reach the conclusion even if it would’ve never happened due to it being outside of their character or mental capacity. This would then support the suicide rule as obviously everyone knows and acknowledges what suicide is, so that knowledge provides each and every person with the reality of them being able to kill themselves when instructed to by the death note.
Feel free to watch things in whichever order you like - as you say, honour the journey
even if naomi had given him fake ID (which she should have!), it shows how arrogant light is that he revealed himself at that very second. he would have been exposed if that wasn't her name
I remember the same icky sensation when I first watched this episode years ago, but the fact that it evoked such a reaction out of me solidified it as one of my most entertaining watches in a while, as much as I don’t align myself with Light at all seeing how calculating and cunning he can be is entertaining. Also I always loved the hysterical laughter from Ryuk when he realises Light succeeded in managing to manipulate the direction of the conversation towards retrieving her name, he’s truly a slimeball.

There's a light novel about Naomi's time working with L I'm pretty sure!
