In this lesson, I go through my approach to painting the gray shield, focusing on light placement, surface texture, and subtle color temperature shifts.
Even though the material reads as gray, the way the surface is angled plays a big role in how the light behaves, and that has a direct impact on where contrast needs to sit.
I also spend time on brushwork and control, building the surface slowly with small, deliberate marks rather than smooth blends.
It’s a calm, methodical process that’s easy to apply to other materials once you understand the logic behind it.

Thank you! I understand that's it's a bit intimidating. If you paint regularly and practice the control and precision with the brush - then it's actually not all that complicated. It does take some effort and practice to learn - but hopefully you'll find that process as enjoyable and meditative as I do 😊
