Knights of the Red Dusk
A Modular Faction Adventure for D&D 5E
The Knights of the Red Dusk are finally here.
When I first started working on this faction, I did not want to make another group of dark knights sitting inside a ruined castle waiting for the players to arrive. I wanted Ironcourt to feel inhabited.
A place where people sleep, work, hunt, argue, trade, lose people, make deals, and slowly try to turn a ruined fortress into something permanent.
The Red Dusk are made up of fallen knights, landless nobles, hunters, deserters, exiled mages, and other people who no longer had much of a place elsewhere.
Some simply want somewhere safe to live. Others want land, status, influence, or a second chance. And Sir Ravan wants something larger: to turn Ironcourt from a refuge into a power the surrounding region can no longer ignore.
This pack was built around that idea. Not a fixed adventure path, but a faction you can place inside your own world and let your players interact with however they want.
WHAT’S INSIDE
The complete Knights of the Red Dusk Faction Adventure includes:
11 Adversaries
6 Magic Items
2 Inspirations
2 Missions
2 Events
Faction Guide
Roll Tables
Tokens
Handouts & Assets
Foundry VTT Support
Everything is designed to be modular, so you can use the entire faction or simply take the pieces that fit your campaign.
ADVERSARIES
The pack includes 11 Red Dusk adversaries.
Each adversary includes:
complete D&D 5E stat block
individual artwork
practical Roleplaying Notes
The goal was to make each one feel different at the table rather than simply changing numbers on the same basic enemy.
Some work best as leaders. Some support nearby allies. Some control space, pressure the backline, or force the players to change how they approach the encounter.
And because they belong to the same faction, many of them can naturally be combined into different encounter compositions.
TOKENS
All adversaries also include their own VTT-ready tokens.
The tokens are provided separately from the stat blocks so you can use them wherever you need them, whether you are building encounters manually or importing the faction into your VTT setup.
FACTION MAGIC ITEMS
The pack includes 6 magic items tied directly to the Knights of the Red Dusk.
These are not simply pieces of equipment carried by NPCs. They are designed as loot and rewards your players can actually acquire, use, and carry forward into the campaign.
Each item reflects something about Ironcourt, the people who live there, or the way the Red Dusk survive in the wasteland.
The items can be used individually, but together they form the Red Dusk Arsenal, a connected relic set with party-wide set bonuses. Through the Resonance Ritual, players carrying these relics can activate shared bonuses based on how many pieces of the set are currently in use.
The system is designed so the items remain useful on their own, while rewarding a party that gradually collects more pieces of the arsenal.
THE FACTION GUIDE
This is the main reference for running Ironcourt and understanding how the faction works.
It covers things like:
who the Red Dusk are
how Ironcourt functions
how the faction is organized
how its people survive
how monster hunting affects their economy
internal tensions and competing interests
how Ironcourt can change over time
how the Red Dusk can react to player decisions
The guide is built as a practical reference rather than something you need to read cover to cover before using the faction.
MONSTER HUNTING AS AN ECONOMY
One of the biggest ideas behind the Red Dusk is that monsters are not only enemies. They are also resources.
That changes the relationship between Ironcourt and the wasteland around it. A monster can be dangerous and valuable at the same time. A hunting party that fails to return can create shortages. A rare creature can become more valuable alive than dead. A nearby settlement may want a monster destroyed while Ironcourt wants the carcass intact.
This system gives you another way to create missions, conflicts, negotiations, and consequences without relying only on combat.
MISSIONS
The pack contains 2 modular missions.
THE CLAIM
A dispute over land, inheritance, and ownership where neither side has a perfectly clean claim. The players can investigate old records, local testimony, physical evidence, and the interests of the people currently living on the land.
The mission is built around competing truths rather than a single correct answer. What the players decide can affect the relationship between Ironcourt and the surrounding region.
WORTH THE HUNT
A mission built around the Red Dusk’s relationship with monster hunting. The hunt itself is only part of the problem. Risk, value, resources, and competing interests all play a role in deciding whether the creature is actually worth pursuing.
Both missions are designed to be inserted into an existing campaign rather than requiring you to follow a fixed storyline.
EVENTS
The pack also includes 2 reusable events.
THE BROKEN HARVEST
A situation that connects the survival of local communities with the dangers surrounding Ironcourt. It can be used as a standalone complication or as part of a larger relationship between the players, the Red Dusk, and nearby settlements.
RED DUSK PATROLS
Red Dusk patrols can appear throughout the region for many different reasons. The event includes roll tables that allow you to quickly generate a patrol and determine what it is doing when the players encounter it.
HANDOUTS & ASSETS
The pack contains additional visual and player-facing material that can be used directly during play. This includes faction-related artwork, mission material, reference assets, and handouts that can be shown to the players.
I wanted the faction to have things the players could actually discover, hold, inspect, and react to rather than learning everything through exposition.
FOUNDRY VTT
The Knights of the Red Dusk are also available as a Foundry VTT-ready module. The content is packaged as a Foundry Adventure so it can be imported into your world and used without manually rebuilding the faction from the PDFs.
BUILT TO FIT YOUR WORLD
The Red Dusk are not tied to one official setting or one specific campaign. That is what these Faction Adventures are built for.
I hope Ironcourt finds a place in your world.
