Important Update | HRL_LOD_Protect | Optimization

This is the most significant update since the game's release. It addresses loading, stability, application behavior, activation, and installation.

In short: maps now load in a few seconds instead of a minute and use two-thirds less memory, while any potential issues are now accompanied by a clear indication of the situation.

No more Assetto Corsa crashes. Compatible with all system configurations.

The area around your car is prepared first, so you can drive while the rest of the map is still arriving. Textures you cannot see are no longer kept in memory for nothing and come back as soon as you get close, very large ones are loaded in pieces so the game does not stutter, and if you move fast in free camera the map now follows your path and loads ahead of you. After a teleport, reloading gets priority: a few busy frames, then everything is sharp again.

Stability

Memory was the main cause of crashes in the middle of a session, especially on the largest maps and online. Two thirds less of it changes that picture completely.

The app

The app now tells you what is happening and what to do: subscription, Patreon sign-in, server unreachable, files modified, PC not activated yet. Each case has its own message instead of a vague one. Long messages scroll inside their bar rather than being cut off or shrunk until unreadable.

If something still goes wrong, the app shows a short code. One click copies it, you send it to us, and we know exactly where it is stuck.
Each time you launch it, you can track the entire process via a comprehensive progress bar.

Activation reacts faster right after your click, and the app offers you a fresh link if the previous one expired. Your LOD presets are now kept in the app's own settings and no longer modify the map files. False alarms are gone too: no more "map not protected" when everything was fine, and no more window closing and reopening by itself.

Activation and protection

One click on AUTHENTICATION links your PC to your Patreon account. It is the same step you already know, done once, and it covers all your maps.

Your maps on the same Patreon account now activate together. Some of them used to ask for a separate activation; that is fixed, and it is already live for everyone, even if you never install this update. Your account details are also better kept: they are no longer handed out without proof that it is really you.

Installation

The installer finds Assetto Corsa by itself, even if you have several Steam libraries. It only touches the Horizon Life maps you own and never opens the others. Everything it replaces goes into a dated HRL_backup folder, and the old app is moved there rather than deleted. At the end it checks every file it installed, and if you run it again it simply says "already up to date" without touching anything.

How to install

1. Download HRL_Update.zip

2. Extract the zip (right-click → Extract All)

3. Close Assetto Corsa and Content Manager

4. Double-click INSTALL_HRL.bat

5. Start a map, then click once on AUTHENTICATION

6. The only pitfall: do not run anything from inside the zip. Extract it first, otherwise nothing gets installed.

Quick questions

Do I need to uninstall the old app? No, the installer handles it and keeps a copy of everything.

Do I lose my settings? No. Only the LOD preset has to be picked once again, then it sticks.

I do not want to update right now. No problem, nothing will be cut off.
