"That's so sad" proceeds to fake cry after stunting on my boy Benjamin lmao
holy the amount of shitting on uncle ben is crazy
you da goat
If you want more Spider-Man, check out Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023). They are a riot, they are both animated and have killer soundtracks, you'll love them. These movies don't have any per-requisites, but if you wanted to watch other spider-man before this, that might be worth while to avoid missing any potential easter-eggs.
Not "Tim Burton" it was Danny Elfman from Oingo Boingo who does all Tim Burton's musical projects as well as many other movies... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46BGHEZUkXk
Also is there a way to send gifts to you to try out like DVDs or coffee?
Hey Lady. Do you have any sort of system whereby we can "sponsor" you to watch a particular film we think you'd like? I have a few I'd be willing to sponsor if you haven't already seen them because I think you'd just love them!
In case no one else has said it already, I just wanna say that I would apply to be "your" Peter Parker without question. 🤓🥵😅
You have to watch the Blade movies too!
I think "have to" is overselling their importance. Time-permiting, yes, but like, if something has to go, those could, especially the third.
I hope you react to the Star Wars universe soon
she’s seen them, she has referenced them a lot
I'm new here, so when shes watching the movie why doesnt she show the movie to?
Copyright violation; it would qualify as a paid performance, not fair use. As long as you have your own copy, side by side browser windows makes a straight forward experience. She's got her game down with the timestamps, blurred image and periodic audio to ensure you're synced up.
Woooo Weeee! Best reaction yet. Chaulked full of Eralia vibes and so many Eralia-isms that I lost count, so I'll go with my favorite one at the finale of the movie which was, "Get Kerfuckled!" when the Green Goblin ate a rocket sled sword salad! I love that you caught wind of needing to catch up on the original Spider Man movies and hopefully The Amazing Spiderman too. It will help with the overall timeline, but I'll say no more. Fun Facts: Tobey fought for this role. Sam Raimi, yes Evil Dead Sam Raimi, originally wanted to cast Leo Dicaprio, but Leo passed. Once Raimi was convinced that Tobey was the guy, it was actually Sony that pushed back hard on him. They said he wasn't lead actor material but Sam wouldn't do the film without him. Although we still almost lost Tobey because he had a back injury from doing Sea Biscuit the movie and if he didn't recover in time they were slated to put Jake Gyllenhaal in the spidey suit. Luckily he recovered and made it into the Spidey suit for three films... Sam Raimi's horror chops made it into the film for sure. The mirror scene with Green Goblin, the quick zoom in camera angles and just the overall spooky tone the Goblin brought when he was dealing with accepting his demons. It's crazy what Sony has been able to do with the character. At one time Marvel was on the verge of bankruptcy and sold off a bunch of its characters rights including Spiderman to Sony, the Hulk to Universal, and the X-Men to Fox. But since Marvel's resurrection all these studios want to work with Marvel to breathe new life into the IPs they purchased from Marvel, hence the Spiderman you saw in Captain America: Civil War. Any ways, enough fun facts. Keep bringing the sauce ma'am!
I was so happy to see this on my feed and your reaction did not disappoint at all in the slightest. 😁 Fun Fact: Marvel Comics was facing bankruptcy a couple decades ago, so in order to keep the company alive, they sold off rights for their characters to different studios do what they’d like with them in the visual medium. Sony bought Spider-Man, Fox bought X-Men, Universal bought Hulk, and etc. Up until the popularity of the MCU, Sony did not want Marvel Studios to use the character of Spider-Man as that was their biggest money maker. That is until Kevin (head of Marvel Studios) worked out a deal with Sony to have Spider-Man appear in Civil War. Then because of failing Spider-Man Adjacent films, it seems now Spider-Man may be given back to its rightful owners as Spider-Man’s movies have been much more successful in the MCU than ever before. P.S.: Play the Spider-Man game for the PS5. You will not be disappointed. P.S.S.: Spider-Man 2 is considered of the greatest superhero movies of all time, and has one of the best superhero vs supervillain fights of all time. A title still held strong after 20 years. Look forward to what comes next. 😁
I don't disagree with a thing you've said (well, maybe the PS5 thing, but that's only as a PC guy); but this re-watch reminded me of something... Raimi's vision and voice really did produce a near perfect "comic book" movie in a way that the later MCU movies aren't. Don't get me wrong, the MCU movies are fantastic; but Sam took a comic book and put it on the screen and it still felt like a comic book. It's the right kind of cheesy, streamlined experience I got as a kid flipping the pages. And I'm with you, as much as I'm looking forward to the Tom Holland entries; Alfred Molina, Donna Murphy and more J. K. Simmons make Spider-Man 2 one of my favorite popcorn flicks.
Highly recommend playing the new spiderman games, swinging around new York is so fun... can do tricks also 👌🏻😂 Also, loving watching movies with you! 🥹
You thought he was DC?? Sacrilege! Lol but in your defence he has appeared along batman in comics so.
I don't know if you are gonna finish the trilogy or just continue where you left from in MCU but after some point (specfically after Endgame) you need to watch Spider-Man 2 and first two movies of The Amazing Spider-Man (TASM) Trilogy for a specific moive in the MCU in order to get the context fully. I'm not gonna say why obviously to skip the spoilers. It's just a heads-up!
Exactly. I focused so much on making sure knew about getting caught up on the X-Men before she reaches Phase 5, that I totally spaced on the original Spiderman movies and the Amazing Spiderman movies.
Great reaction, Eralia. if I might give a suggestion, you really should at least watch spider-man 2 before moving onto other spider-men as that is by far the most iconic and referenced movie. Also, more importantly, when you get to VENOM please DO NOT WATCH the second/ final after-credit scene. It is a short scene from Into The Spider-verse that spoils the premise of the movie, and your reaction and viewing experience really would be much better without that MAJOR plot point spoiled. But just a suggestion!
This was the first movie I ever bought tickets for. I was in grade six and pre-bought tickets for my brother and me so we could watch it on opening night.
It’s great to have you back Eralia! Had a blast watching this with you! This Spider-Man trilogy is my favourite of them all! Toby Maguire is Spider-Man! Thanks and Take Care Eralia!!
I've seen comments asking if this is a break or pause from the MCU, but it's not really a pause it's more of a side quest. Your reaction was great, as to be expected. You've never seen Kirsten Dunst before, interesting I feel like I have to recommend Bring It On, I'm sure there are a lot of other movies I should recommend for Kirsten, but I've just always liked that movie. You've now seen the famous upside down kiss. Like I said in my earlier comment, the original trilogy holds a special place for me, but I do still like the Amazing Spider-Man, current Spider-man and Spider-Verse movies a lot as well, so I hope you get to see them at some point and maybe the X-Men movies to, just to add to the very long of list of recommendations that you probably get on a regular basis.
So good to see you backtracking to these older Spider-Man movies. Earlier than expected, but definitely a great call to get these under your belt before moving on from Phase 3. The confusion about Spider-Man being DC is actually pretty understandable. DC characters lean hard into the whole “secret identity to protect the people I love” trope, whereas Marvel doesn’t use it quite as much - "I am Iron Man" 😂. Spider-Man is very much Marvel though — which makes this a Marvel movie even though it predates the MCU. The MCU is really its own thing: all those characters and stories deliberately woven together into one big shared universe, which wasn’t really the approach when these films were made. For a long time, Sony owned the movie rights to Spider-Man, which is why these exist separately from the MCU. Much later, Sony and Marvel Studios made a deal that allowed Spider-Man to finally cross over — hence why he shows up in the MCU despite having this whole earlier movie history. One of my favourite parts of watching first-time reactions is catching those little comments that accidentally hit way closer to home than expected. I had a big “oh nooo” moment when Peter snapped at Uncle Ben and you said, “He’s gonna regret those words someday.” Yup… and sooner than you think. Another great reaction. I haven’t watched these older Spider-Man movies in years, so it’s been a fun refresher alongside all the MCU and Harry Potter rewatches. I personally lean toward Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man overall, but Tobey is still great. I’ve heard people say Tobey makes the better Peter Parker while Andrew makes the better Spider-Man — which is an interesting take I don’t totally disagree with. Also, you mentioned therapists reacting to this movie — funnily enough, Cinema Therapy has covered this one. Not sure if they dive into exactly the angle you were talking about, but they’re always a great watch regardless.
It's not clear to me that she's doing a ton of these older ones (yet), I think she mainly wanted to watch the origin story since the main DisneyMCU didn't do one.
BONEsaw is ready!!
"Oh no, his character arc is developing" hahaha
Love the new haircut. Spiderman 2 is my favorite Spiderman movie. Can't wait till you watch that.
Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your viewpoint, now that you have started the original Spider-Man arc you kinda have to finish them if you are going to have the full context for some things that happen after the Endwar/Endgame arc. But allow me to give my gen-x viewpoint on the significance of this movie. In the early 80's DC had some success with Superman in Hollywood, but no studio capitalized on that spark, and the "comic book super hero" trope largely fizzled out. Neither DC nor Marvel had the clout to coax Hollywood into backing big dollar movies featuring comic book content in a serious manner. In the 90's, in need of cash, Marvel sold the rights to various properties. Fox took the X-Men brand and turned into a popular cartoon series. Sony eventually gambled on buying the rights to Spider-Man, and then after The Matrix movies hit it big at the box office, which mixed dystopian Sci-Fi with Superhero style action, Sony put together the movie you just watched. The factor that sealed the future of comic hero movies was the casting of both Tobey Maquire as a vulnerable Peter Parker and heroic Spider-Man, as well as the incredible casting of Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin. His unhinged and engaging performance really sold this movie to a mass audience beyond just comic book nerds. Without the success of this movie and it's sequels we might very well have never seen the genesis of the MCU as we know it now, which began not long after this with the debut of Iron Man. At that time everything in the rights to the Marvel catalogue of characters was spread out all over the place, including Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Dare Devil, and others. What you will see happening throughout the course of the Spider-Man movies is emblematic of the process that Marvel (eventually under the ownership of Disney) went through trying to reassemble their full repertoire of content under one banner.
You know, as much as I love reliving all these movies with you, I really don't appreciate being robbed of my internal sarcastic monologue. That was my emotional support internal sarcastic monologue!
I love this movie…but I just gotta say, I do not recommend watching TOO many of the non MCU marvel movies before continuing the Infinity Saga - it will most likely derail that incredible sense of wonder and connectedness you are feeling watching all the infinity saga movies in a row. You’ve built up momentum, and it’s really building at this point where you are, so for the sake of the emotional build up and payoff, I would highly recommend going back to the infinity journey right after this and just finish it - and then go and watch a bunch of other marvel movies because there are definitely a lot of good non-mcu marvel movies. Anyway I love your reactions as always, you’re awesome.
I don't think she ever said she was going to watch a bunch of non-MCU Marvel movies. She needed this one for origin context, since the next one is a Spider-Man entry. I assume that was her logic, at least.
In the comics, Peter Parker is using web shooters that shoot synthetic spider webs. Props for those were made for movie, and they were used in the scene in which Peter practices in his room. However, when it was decided that the web fluid should be organic spider-silk coming from his own wrists (based on a concept James Cameron had for his own Spider-Man movie that never went into production), the scene was later reshot to accommodate that change. Director Sam Raimi answered the protests of comic book fans, saying that it was more credible to have Peter shoot web this way rather than for a high school boy to be able to produce a wonder adhesive in his spare time that a big company like 3M could not make.
The thing about spiderman is he’s always stuck in unfortunate circumstances and it’s his ability to always push through that makes him so great he’s just a normal guy trying to do some good and life always beats him down every chance it can get and yet he still keeps on being spiderman
the classic for good reason! i had this movie and spider-man 2 on repeat as a child. Can't wait for you to finish the trilogy! Spider-man 2 is absolutely peak!
Glad you’re turning back the clock to films that proved comic book movies could be dark, serious, artistic, and commercially successful. Prime non-Marvel examples include (chronologically): * Superman (1978) * Batman (Burton, 1989) * Spawn (1997) * Hellboy & Hellboy 2 (del Toto, 2004 & 2008) * Batman trilogy (Nolan, 2005-2012) * 300 (2006) * Watchmen (2009) * Kick-Ass (2010, dark comedic) * Green Lantern (2011, the anti-example) * Dredd (2012) Sure, the visual effects may not age terribly gracefully compared to today’s standards, but they provided the blueprint and confidence to launch the MCU!
Green lantern is the Deadpool prequel 😄
So glad you're watching the old Spiderman movies before all the current ones. They DO MATTER when you get to a certain newer one. Not like the original Hulks, the different Spderman actors MATTER in the complete spiderman franchise.
And it shows Peter's origin story to an extent skipped in the mcu.
The sam rami movies theme song is so damn good
I am here for all the fun facts people in give in the comments LOL.
For extra info spider-man traditionally doesn't grow that weird hair on his fingers to climb nor does he shoot webs from his body. that was just the director wanting to add body horror to his film. Traditionally spider-man's ability to climb has to do with strong static electricity and he builds mechanical web shooters that he wears on his wrists to shoot webs from
Sam Raimi, the guy of horror movies like Evil Dead adding a bit eerie stuff. Who would have known😄. I was happy to notice his cameo, back in the day I wasnt that aware of him. We can all de thankful this Peter does not shoot the webs out from his butt, the area spider OGs use I ike it the Dr Strange movie he directed was really cool.
Growing up is realizing MJ is toxic af
every reactor has their own copies, why don’t you provide one?
New here I see. No, not every reactor has their own copies for uncut reactions. Almost none do.
I was so hyped for Homecoming , but this works just as well!
Well she learns the origin stories, that sre skipped in the mcu since they are done in the 5 Sony movies quite good imo. So Id be down for her to now binge all Spider-Man/ Amazing Spider-Man movies first
One could argue the MCU, and pretty much most all modern comic based movies own their very existence to this movie and the original X-Men movie. Sure prior to those there were some good ones, Blade, Tim Burton's two Batman movies (not the Joel Shitshow ones).
Nice! Totally agree. I provided a similar comment before I saw your comment here.
"this would be such a cool game" oh boy I've got some good news for you
I was thinking the same thing haha
Now I realize Norman Osborn might have wanted to recreate the super soldier serum as so many others? Cool to watch it again, has been some years. So Harry's father dies and at his funeral the (ex?) girlfriend confesses her love to the guy involved in his father's death and got friendzoned. That's what happens if you steal your bro's girl using his lines.
Randy Savage (Randy Poffo) played Bone Saw McGraw. In 1986, when I was 15, my friend and I saw him in a drug store in Lexington, KY. We jumped out of our car and ran into the store and got in line behind him at the checkout counter. He was there with who I assume was his wife or girlfriend. He paid for his stuff and walked out. We followed him out to the parking lot. He kept looking behind him at us, but we never said anything. We were too scared to say anything. So then we ran back to our car, and he got in his big 1980s Lincoln Town Car and drove off.
Great reaction, glad you liked it. BTW, that wasn't Howard the Duck. It was Woody Woodpecker.
probly my favorite film score of all time, hope you’re feeling okay
My only comment is I wish your outros were longer, like talking about favorite parts and shit or just anything you wanna rant about. I don’t want you or anyone to take that as disrespectful I truly enjoy your work, just something to hopefully consider
I'm so glad you decided to dive into Spiderman after noticing him in Captain America! Movie time!
You kind of need to watch all these Toby McGuire Spider-Man movies (1-3) and Andrew Garfield The Amazing Spider-Man (1-2) because in future MCU movies they reference story elements from them. So to understand the big picture I recommend you watch them. I would watch them before you watch Eternals or Black Widow. ...
Spider-Man 2 and 3, then TASM 1/2.....prior to Spiderman Homecoming. She already watched Deadpool so IDK if doing all the Fox X-Men movies are a must prior to moving on in the MCU.
nice! blast from the past! i've been on a Sam Raimi kick lately so this is great!
What an absolute treat this was. I grew up with this movie and its sequels and this character has been something near and dear to my heart for as long as I can remember. I'm sure i'm not alone in that. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with this. I had a great time :)
I still think this is the best version of the three they've made. No offense to the other actors. I'm actually fond of both of them too. The only edge that I'll give to the newest one is Marisa Tomei (the new Aunt May) is a long time crush of mine. Hopefully you'll get back into non-MCU movies at some point and try My Cousin Vinny (1992). It's a great comedy and she won an Oscar for her part in it. Glad you made it to your new home in one piece. Show us on Google Maps where the tree is that attacked you on the trip. We'll all make an effort to stop there and smack it one. ;)
The stories we retell are the ones that aren't just fun, but elevate us. Marvel has created hundreds of heroes with thousands of stories, but a dozen or so are so perfect that we remake and retell them time and again. They are each glimpses of the men boys could become if they overcome the nature we're born into, and strive for what we could be. Those who struggle with anger find reason in the Hulk, those who wish they could do more are are shown by Cap who to be if they ever could (and surprise, in time all of us grow up into men who can), but the most universal hero, the one who every single young man can relate to, is the one who was perfect from his first appearance in 1963: "With great power comes great responsibility" And that is why when Sony bought the rights to make a Marvel movie, of all the heroes they could have pursued, they chose Spider Man. Which is also why it was the hardest to reconcile the rights to allow Spiderman to appear in the MCU decades later as it also required Sony to be on board.
Oh man, I am SO happy you've decided to go through the Spider-Man (and hopefully the subsequent "Amazing Spider-Man") films before continuing your MCU trek. Not only are they fantastic films (for the most part) but they do the perfect job of bringing you up to speed with us Gen-X comic book dudes, and I PROMISE you, it will make the MCU journey so much better, if you can believe that's even possible at this point.
LETS GOOOO I HOPE YOU DO 2 and 3 and the amazing spiderman, you kinda have to do the amazing Spider-Man 2 that movie kind of blows, but kinda have to
had no idea u were gonna react to this what a pleasant surprise, just out of curiosity will you be reacting to the rest of the spiderman films before getting back into the mcu journey?
I'm here for the ride! Seen this a dozen or more times, but sooooo looking forward to your reaction. Outside of being fun movies, your investment in this (or these) movies will pay off in about 20 years of future Eralia Marvel movie watching.
Why am i seeing just a timecode over the movie instead of the actual movie?!?!?!?!
Cause you're supposed to have your own copy to sync up with.
I was looking forward to seeing your perspective of spiderman since you didnt have any prior knowledge of the old films to influence you, but damn these are such movies imma enjoy it regardless, hope the kitties and you are doing good after the wreck!
This is a complete different topic but would you please react to both ted movies and tv series and also an old iconic classic trilogy back to the future I would love to see your reaction to theses I highly recommend it
I can’t wait to see you react to the other spider man movies
I hate that they removed the web shooters for this movie and instead made the webbing organic. Made Peter feel less intelligent to me. Glad you’re Okay!
Spider-Man has been Marvel's most popular and profitable character, with way more movies, shows, cartoons, toys, and merch than anyone else. (He's international, do a search for Spider-Man in Japan, it's crazy). Marvel licensed Spider-Man film rights to Sony back in the '90s (Sony still owns them). A deal since 2015 lets him appear in the MCU, but Sony keeps control and makes the solo movies. Both start with the signature Marvel logo (it's official Marvel IP). MCU films say "Marvel Studios" and show a hero montage. Sony films just say "Marvel" or "In Association With Marvel." You'll see the same thing with the old Fox X-Men and Deadpool movies before Disney bought them. This movie is best for your first introduction into Spider-Man.
Lady, you are just the most fun!
Tim Burton ish Because sam Raimi did it and he did evil dead franchise
Also the music is Danny Elfman, Tim Burton's go-to music guy.
Spiderman is owned by Sony but now is shared property with Disney so then can use him in their movies
Film Rights are owned by Sony. Spider-man is still owned by Marvel as far as a comic book character.
“This would be a crazy video game” As it turns out, it is! Recommend Spider-Man on your gaming channel from Insomniac
Taking a break from the MCU?
extra background on spiderman before the tom holland movies as those movies dont really explain his backstory/ how he got his powers
Nice! Stoked to watch this when I get home from work. This started my love with superhero movies. And Kirsten Dunst.
btw, you should know this trilogy is the "odd one out" by having Spidey naturally make webs in his own body. In most iterations, regardless of the medium, Spidey has to chemically make Web Fluid and then makes Webshooters to shoot them out of.
Very excited to see you reaction to this iconic trilogy!
The original Spider-Man trilogy, I wasn't expecting that. I love all the Spider-Man movies, but the original trilogy holds a special place for me. I look forward to being able to watch this later tonight.
This is my favourite movie trilogy of all time, I have tobeys spider logo tattooed on my arm <3
Oh this will be a treat! Thank you. I'll watch tonight after work
This was a great reaction to what I would say was the second movie to help resurrect the live-action superhero movie genre for the 21st century (the first being 2000's X-Men.) There was a bumpy patch in the mid to late 90's there... The second 2000's Spider-Man movie is also good, but you've seen the most important one of the trilogy. There are eventually "reasons" to watch the second movie, but not any time soon.
Damn you for delaying my Infinity War. But im here for it!
Fucking a! Love to see you doing homework while going through the MCU. Gonna be a little bit more extra viewing as you go through but it’s all fun and has fantastic pay offs. Enjoy ☺️
