Regarding the mirror Harry keeps looking into in this film, in one scene it didn't reflect him. It only showed an empty room. Later it showed someone on the other end who Harry asked for help just before Dobby appears. This is one thing I was sad they didn't include in Order of the Phoenix. It is an item Sirius gave Harry to communicate. And it has a key story element to it I don't want to spoil in case you pick up the books.

A couple days late so I'm not sure if you'll see this, but you said something about him draining the water to get the sword or finding another way. The reason he couldn't accio the sword out or do any of the other things is because it's the Sword of Gryffindor. Gryffindor house is bravery above all, and the only way to be worthy or earn the sword is to do a brave act in which it deems you worthy. Diving into a freezing cold lake to retrieve the sword is brave. Standing up to, defying, and professing his believe in Dumbledor to a young Tom Riddle in Chamber Of Secrets was brave. Therefore he was worthy of the sword.

Oh boy, here we go. Last two movies. Shit’s getting serious. I had to laugh at how you said you started this journey looking for a fun, Christmassy, magical adventure as a breather from the depths of Marvel… and now you need breathers from Harry Potter. These movies are so dark and emotionally heavy. And yes — you’re absolutely right. This movie has the best score so far. So far… You had some brilliantly timed comments in this reaction. “This movie is just made to make you cry” — literally moments before Hedwig gets hit. “Is it gonna be like Lord of the Rings?” about the Horcrux necklace — nail on the head, you were right. And “we have the cloak” — already picking up on the significance of Harry’s cloak being Death’s cloak. That detail isn’t explained particularly well in the movies either, especially since other invisibility cloaks exist, but they fade or wear out over time — Harry’s never does. One of my favourite things in all the films is the artwork for the story of the Three Brothers. It’s so beautifully done and elevates the story in such a unique way. Your comment about Hermione having to Obliviate the wizards who attacked them — not long after having to do the same to her parents — is such a great perspective. I’d honestly never really thought about that connection before, even after watching these movies dozens of times. That moment must have been so much harder for her than it already seems. And of course, this one has some devastating losses. Hedwig. Moody. But possibly hardest of all… Dobby. You knew it was coming too — right as the knife was thrown: “Not Dobby, I can feel it.” Sadly… yes. Dobby. We’ve got one more to go, and it’s the darkest yet — but it’s also my absolute favourite. I’m so excited for you to see how this all comes together, and to be here watching it alongside you.

I disagree, prisoner of azkaban has the best score

Voldys past was explained in the books way more in detail (more like short story) than in the movies. It was explained in Half Blood Prince through the pensieve by dumbledore. Actually in the movies they just skipped everything before orphanage. Best way to fill up on these things is actually watching it on youtube. There are bunch of "harry potter lore" tubers who explain these things.

Hermione wiping her parents' memory of her brings me to tears every time. First in the books, then in the theater, then again in this watchalong.

You should check out the deleted scene from this movie between Harry and Dudley. Why they removed it I have no idea it adds heart, you'll see what I mean.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, after the final movie, just as a reminder. In my opinion, it's essential as an end point for the series, 100% worth the watch. It's not a typical anniversary thing, high production value and a rollercoaster of emotions.

I second this!! It wraps it all up very nicely!!!

This is probably my favorite movie of the series. Really long burn, slow, feels almost helpless and just like letting the river float you away. The next movie is the direct opposite, which most people prefer. For the finale you should probably buckle a seatbelt because holy shit! You're in for a ride.

so much tension, it was a great rewatch

I'd like to hear a review of the series after you've finished. It seems like a real Rollercoaster for you and I think that'd be an interesting perspective 🤔

Part 1 is hard, part 2 is much better.

Between marvel phase 3 and the HP, i think you're due for a comedy or two. Office space if you haven't seen it is light weight fun.

Welcome to the beginning of the end! You’re finishing up the epic HP run of movies! Congrats! Loving watching them with you. But what is next??? We've seen a partial plan, but here are my suggestions (in thread to not clog up the main chat):
