Fingers crossed that down the line you do a react to A Christmas Story, a much more entertaining Christmas movie as well as literally any of the marvel shows 🤞😅🤞🤓
Anyone who has ever suffered a severe anxiety attack or panic attack will immediately understand just how perfectly this film depicted them. It's really, really simple: "I'm here, and I need to be elsewhere. Now". This film also nailed the reality that one's ability to engage in coherent conversation doesn't negate the fact that your body and brain are completely overtaken. Our logical minds think, "If I am aware that I am having a panic attack, shouldn't that be the impetus for calming me down?". Nope. As for my own, personal experience, the only thing missing from those scenes is the immediate need to drink copious amounts of water. Just me? Perhaps.
New drinking game, take a shot whenever eralia says"omg"
I love your consistent shock and enjoyment at the fact that they can come up with new and interesting places to take each characters storytelling. No Eralia-isms but I'll try include the up-to-date list on the next Marvel reaction (Thor: The Dark World). Anyone can add their Eralia-isms and I'll add the best ones to the list.
First time watching the full-length watch-along. Was really fun! Thank you!
They did the comedy really well in this movie XD I loved the variety of suits too at the end!
I like this movie, more everytime I watch it, but I still think it' s my least favorite Iron Man movie, mainly because of the villain. I always thought it would be better if it went with Maya as the villain and not the blow hard who likes to hear himself talk and what he has to say is...not that interesting. I only recently found out she was apparently supposed to be the main villain but the studio said to change it, because people wouldn't buy her toys, so they had to change it to Killian. I don't recall anyone really caring about his toys though.
Don't worry too much about the order of the movies. You fixed it before it really mattered.
Great reaction! I'm glad you enjoyed this. Iron Man 3, Captain America 2, Avengers 3 (part 2), and Thor 3 are my favourite MCU movies. There's a lot of good stuff still to come.
I'm excited to be watching Marvel again with you! I can't wait to get home and boot this one up! Busy week last week so I have to catch up on the Harry Potter movies too!
"This is some really crude stuff" was that intentional? Genuinely hilarious.
I can’t believe I was hoping it’s gonna be a Harry Potter upload over Iron Man 3. Either way glad to watch this back again after quite some time 🔥😇
People who say any of the movies are bad are just Negative Nancy's needing to hate on something. I will agree that Phase 2 is easily the worst of the phases, but that doesn't mean the movies are bad, they're all still good movies, they just don't quite hit that epicness that Phase 1 had. I think the next one, Thor: Dark World people often say is one of the worst MCU movies, but I still really enjoy it; and don't worry, even if Phase 2 isn't quite as epic as Phase 1 (Guardians of the Galaxy is easily the best of P2), Phase 3 brings it back with a roar, with banger after banger after banger, ending in the ultimate epic experience.
Fr, I can’t stop watching. Highly entertaining, strangely calming. Whatever your secret sauce is, I’m excited for thee next ones. Appreciate ya.
Somebody already talked about your great "crude stuff" line, and I support it. Also, great how you notice Tony and Harley's mutual symbiosis. I loved this movie as a Marvel movie, but I also loved it as a movie that reunited Shane Black and RDJ. So, right now its Christmas season, and Harry Potter isn't classified as a Christmas series yet you found a great way to tie it in with all the music and snow and in every movie the viewer knows when its Christmas. You get it. Two for two. I say this because Shane Black is a writer and director known for how many movies he does that are "Christmas movie adjacent" like Iron Man 3. One of my favorite Christmas movies is "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" from '05, and it was the first time Shane Black both wrote and directed, and it starred RDJ. Pre-Iron Man RDJ. Now that you've seen Iron Man 3, you might see a few similarities in storytelling and narration and dialogue and what kind of jokes are made (and the delivery they are made in). I love IM3. And I love KKBB for many of the same reasons.
In the comics, Extremis is a nanotech injection he gives himself. They used it here for the story which I imagine miffed some of the comic fans. And The Mandarin is one of Tony's most famous villains, a historically Chinese character. Those were the complaints when it came out anyway. Regardless I enjoyed this one for what it was, I hope you did as well!
This is my favorite Iron Man movie. I like how we get to see more of Tony outside of the suit; and see him deal with the repercussions of Avengers instead of things magically going back to normal.. And as someone else mentioned, Tony could't call the other suits ("House Party") because the basement was covered in ruble. Cranes were clearing it slowly. Tony checks in with Jarvis about the cranes' progress a couple times. Anywho, another great reaction.
Great reaction, I respect how can see the cheese now and then but still recognize that they are still very good movies. And I love the pace your going on Infinity Saga, 1 per week or 2 weeks is torturous to us just love watching you experience them. The break between phases makes perfect sense too. (Just not too long!🤓). 🍻
Enjoyed the watchalong. :) This isn't my favorite Marvel movie and is likely my least favorite Iron Man - still enjoyed it though, so I'm not going to complain.
People call it a bad movie for the same reason you had complaints - for conveniently nerf'ing Tony when realistically he should have been able to solve this thing in a hot second at any time. If you're after character moments and growth, then those positives trump the negatives. But if you need that consistency first then it's hard to get passed those weird 'just fucking win already' issues for the moments that made you love it. Iron Man 1 was perfect, and Avengers was somehow even more perfecter. So clearly IM3 fails to meet those bars, but then as you note, talk about being spoiled right?
best part of the movie is when the guy's like, "Honestly, I don't even like working here, these guys are SO weird" Ah man, I haven't watched these movies back to back like this in about 5 years, so this is so much fun!
This one and the next one are not the best but after that they get waaaay better!!!!
Love your reactions! I do really like this movie, I find I enjoyed it more the more I watched it. You missed a couple of things (easy to do, I've watched them all at least 10 times and still discover new things). He couldn't call on his suits until the basement was cleared, you see the last bit of rubble being moved by the cranes when he tells Jarvis to launch the hiuse party protocol at the end. Killian wanted power but to control it from the shadows. His plan was to create the treat using the mandarin, kill the president and instil the vice president as his puppet. No one would suspect him.
Not sure if this is the right place for recommendations but you should definitely check out District 9, Interstellar and Mad Max: Fury Road.
Two main thoughts. First was how much I loved the, not sure if intentional, pun of when the president is strung up and Rhodes says "Death by oil" just in time for Eralia to say "Yeah, this is some really crude stuff" And then also how much I am looking forward to but also slightly scared of the reaction to the events that bring Harley back into the films...
"Crude stuff" was in my notes, and I can't even tell if Eralia was intentional about that. It just made my day.
If you want another epic Christmas movie watch diehard 😤
I love how much you appreciate these movies going in blind. Yes, this is generally considered one of the weaker of the Infinity Saga, but its by no means a bad movie. Just goes to show how incredible this universe was during its prime. Excited for more! It just gets better from here 😁
its always a fun time watching Marvel movies with ya. I hope you finish the Harry Potter series as well! Merry Xmas Eralia!
"Dude there's no way, I'm not crying yet" as you're actively tearing up just killed me. I wish I could experience these movies for the first time again. Even after a dozen times, the Iron Man movies are just top tier.
Guardians of the Galaxy is my favorite of the MCU movies, I can't wait to see you do a reaction to that. But yeah Iron Man 3 was good IMO, I'm not sure why people say that it's not that good.
Oh Guardians will be a fav of hers for sure
I think you would enjoy watching "A Christmas Story".
Wow, you are flying through these. Maybe try mixing in some of the older stuff, like Blade (1998), maybe Daredevil (2003), some X-men (2000) and Spider-man (2002) and (2012). Fantastic Four (2005).
No. Just no. Stay the Infinity course. Plenty of time after Infinity Saga to catch all those shows that have little and nothing to do with it, and will only confuse a non-marvel head. IMO 🍻
I want to say the biggest thing people denounce about this movie is that it came just after the Avengers where the Earth's Mightiest Heroes came together to defeat a never-before seen extra terrestrial foe. It introduced humanity to the concept of aliens, to other-worldly threats. It recalibrated everyone's point of view, their place in the universe and how things will move forward and then here's this douche-nozzle whose whole shtick was (as you pointed out) "I was neglected for the first half of my life so now I'm going to be a dick to everyone for the second". They did move the story forward, especially with Tony's coping with the events in Avengers (something they could have honestly explored a lot more earnestly) and his relationship with Pepper and where the Iron Man is going in the future, but the whole super one dimensional villain whose only goal was money and control left a sour taste in people's mouths. I will admit the twist with the Mandarin was quite cool. In the comics he's his own character and not just a made up front played by the always extraordinary Ben Kingsley. I really liked that bit. And you can tell that RDJ was having a LOT of fun with this character throughout. And don't worry, this is definitely not the last we'll see of him. ;)
Good react. 👍 thx 4 posting. #Ironmaniscool
Tony being traumatized by the New York events ties in to the next Avengers movie. Iron man 3 was basically action movie build to showcase character building of Tony Stark.
This movie and Thor 2, are 2 of the 'weaker' movies in the MCU but they are by no means 'bad' but comparing them to some of the Avengers movies they are hard to live up to that expectation. Basically nothing but absolute bangers to come for you though, so can't wait to see you experience that. The next 10-14 movies are by far some of the best in the entire series, hope you stick with it.
I thought Iron Man 3 was fantastic. It was a huge amount of character growth for Tony Stark.
a whole lot of tomfoolery, but still nice, Harley was a great addition. Yinsen making that reappearance was sweet, Gary was a trip! Thank you for this :D whats next? Thor: The Dark World i think, (Eralia don’t read this next bit idk if it spoils anything for you—>) and btw does anyone else in the comments know if it’s technically okay to watch the Black Widow movie now in the timeline and it won’t spoil anything for future movies Eralia will watch? i’ve never seen it before but I am interested in knowing, because in the avengers they mention some bits and pieces of history with clint and natasha’s past and if anyone has watched black widow does it fill in those gaps and can the movie be watched with the rest of phase 1 like a proper origin story?
While one could argue that It is technically an origin story movie of sorts, it doesn't fill in nearly all the gaps, and is definitely not one that can be watched out of order, as it mostly takes place after... well, almost everything from Phase 2 and 3. And the end credit scenes take place in Phase 4, I think. So, if you're caught up with Everything Else, then it might be worth a watch, but not any sooner. I think it mostly sets up the Hawkeye TV show and The Thunderbolts.
At the beginning, Dr. Ho Yinsen from the conference is Bern Switzerland, is the same guy who helped Tony in the cave in Afghanistan when they were both hostages, sacrificing himself so Tony could escape.
Next is Thor the Dark World.
Yay! (It's funny, my Disney recommendations have been forever altered by these watchalongs, it's always pushing me to watch the next movie, and I'm like, "Nooo, Disney! Wait until Eralia does it!" XD
My only issue with moments like this post-Avengers is, what are Rhody, Cap, Natasha, Fury, Hawkeye, or Banner doing during all of this, why couldn't they help him? (The only one excused is Thor, being off-planet.)
Great reaction! I really like this movie, maybe my favorite Iron Man movie just because they make him a hero without him having to use his suit. Heroes are more interesting when they have emotional or motivational layers, and Tony being seriously traumatized by the events of New York is such a cool addition to his character. General opinion on this movie is less positive, probably because the villain is less interesting, and their motivation is a bit weak (a conclusion you also made in your reaction during and after the movie). One story-beat you missed is that he couldn't call his other suits because they were buried in the wreckage of his mansion. It took a couple days for the cranes to dig out the entrance to the basement where his suits were stored, and the moment they managed that, the suits immediately came out to help ("house-party protocol").
I can't wait for Captain America Winter Soldier!
Hell yeah! #TilTheEndOfTheLine 🫂
Yinsen was in the cave with tony in the first movie....he mentioned that they met before in bern but tony didnt remember him.
yeah i thought that was him!!
lesgoooo
Did you end up catching the other Avengers post credits scene? It is short, but it does give you a first glimpse of an important character.
