If you want another old horror movie to watch that's great but different than this try the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1956, it's in black and white but well worth it.
Director's cut or theatrical? Runtime? Anything to help sync since you don't maintain an blurred media reference? Having a bit of embedded video at the beginning doesn't help with staying sync'd if we don't know the version of the movie, too. Edit : the brief media window showed the runtime before you started it as 02:01:53, so that would jive with the theatrical version.
Hero post.
Not many people now could understand the impact this movie had in 1973. There was ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ in 1968 – tame demonic paranoia compared to this one. Not many other well-made films in the genre. No one was ready for this. People in audiences were passing out, puking in the aisles, running to the lobby in panic. All the extreme reactions older horror movies hoped for really happened this time. One recent young reactor didn’t think it was all that scary and speculated that its reputation came from people being “more religious back then.” That wasn’t the dynamic. There had been a sharp drop in church attendance for almost a decade, both Catholic and the older protestant denominations. The new-style evangelical movement hadn’t quite got going yet. Those who were still devout weren’t likely to go see it. For most of the target audience, religion was probably something they associated with childhood. So this was like a half-remembered monster-in-the-closet come to life again. Some of them wanted to see a priest afterwards and join up to ward off the devil, which irritated the church – interest for the wrong reasons. ‘Halloween’ 5 years later started the unending string of slasher movies of the 80s & 90s. The most worthy successor was probably ‘ALIEN’ (1979) – which you should definitely react to! Actors worthy of note: Lee J. Cobb as the police detective was one of the all-time great character actors. Max von Sydow as Fr. Merrin was a legendary Swedish actor. He was in classic Ingmar Bergman films when he was young and in season 6 of Game of Thrones late in life, with many roles in between. Much appreciation for this reaction.
I'm not sure what's going on here...but I've only followed a couple hundred reactors and been a patron to 2 dozen.
Why is the movie not playing? I wouldn't have signed up for this type reaction.
Same. Being asking for a blurred window of the film in the corner to help synchronise but fell on deff ears. Love this reactor but seems to be the only one that does not do this. Wasted my money and will not be renewing until this changes. 😥
