Rebuilding My First Project Car — S13 Silvia Project | Part 1
I've only got just under a week before I fly back to NZ and hopefully get a new Visa to keep on living in Japan.
Luckily I was just able to finish this video up so that means I'm free to worry about everything else now until my flight, like cancelling the Shaken for the Twin since race cars don't need shaken, and forwarding my mail.

Although I'm not a big fan of this style (the car looks absolutely perfect in OEM look), I have to admit that this modification has style. How does it look now for foreigners living in Japan? I read something about drastically increased costs for some residence permits. Would that mean you have to go to New Zealand occasionally so that Japan recognizes that you don't live there permanently, or are the new rules not so catastrophic? The last thing I've noticed several times and now I hear it again in the video is that there are helicopters flying around somewhere (maybe it's a Chinook by the sound?). Coincidence, or is there an army airport somewhere near you? :-)
I wont sugar coat it, the current situation here is that foreigners are being used as a scapegoat for the inability to address any of Japan's actual problems like the declining birthrate, low wages, and aging population. The cost requirement for the visa I will be applying for went up to 6 times what it was a year ago, and this has made it impossible for a lot of people that were hoping to start a business over here. Unfortunately this isn't unique to Japan and it's happening in many countries around the world. I love living here, it's just as beautiful as I hoped, and the car culture is something that other countries can't even compare to, and everyone I've met has been so kind and welcoming, in a whole year I've never met a single person that had a real problem with me being a foreigner. So it feels really weird to hear this echo-chamber of hate every day, where people are being fed cherry-picked cases in the news and using that to stereotype an entire demographic. Almost every friend I know here has had increased difficulty applying for Permanent Residency here lately. Friends that have Japanese spouses and families, some with kids that are already 10 years old, yet when they apply for PR they are denied and have to keep getting spouse visas. Coming from a country like New Zealand with a roughly 40% foreign population and everyone considers it a paradise, it seems odd that Japan has barely 3% foreigners and they make it sound like the end of the world. There's still no other country in the world I would chose to live in besides New Zealand, but in the end it might not be up to me. Addressing the last part, yes in this video that was a Chinook, I had to pause the video to go out and check because I'd actually never seen one before. But yeah helicopters to pass overhead from time to time.
I noticed the S13 in the corner of your last video! Nice nice! Hopefully you will be able to bring a good mount of the most useful tools and stuff over to Japan.
I doubt I'll be able to bring over many of my tools, but yeah I will be putting the most important or custom ones in my luggage and bringing them back.
