George Washington loved ice cream. When he began his presidency, he brought around 300 ice cream supply items to the White House. Records show that in 1790, Washington spent over $200 on (amounting several thousand contemporary dollars) ice cream for a party.
His White House kitchen staff sourced the ice from the Potomac. The cream came from Mount Vernon cattle. Popular flavors at the time apricot and oyster.
