If you know someone's name you can send them things, invite them places, say it quietly, in wonder or fear. A name can stick in your mouth like butter or blood. You can make one up, get a new name, do whatever you want. No downsides. None.

Man...as a trans person, being a Citadel wizard sounds amazing. When you finish school you get to pick a new name, you know *for a fact* everyone's gonna be excited and happy for you, and then your given name is *literally wiped from reality* except in the specific cases you choose for it not to be? Like I know the empire's got a lot of skeletons in its closet but god damn. God damn.
"...with the exception of those places in which it was written by one to whom it was given." If Suvi didn't speak her name *herself* to Lila at the Ace of Wands... but Ame was the one who gave their names... for the guest book... is that cool?? JUST WONDERING.

Such a good episode! So much packed into one session. Suspenseful lore with the name cloak, touching moments between the characters, amazingly funny role play moments, internal character conflict moments, an ominous set up for next time, and beautifully immersive sound design. It will be a joy to re-listen to this over and over.

"What do Artificers do, and can they make a shield?" - almost an exact replica of a conversation I had with my first DM (I was a Bard and I wanted a Jack in the Box that was a punching glove that hit targets with Nathairs Mischief from UA. My Bard loved Artificers from then on)
So during the levelling up episode, you mentioned the spell Cackle, and I couldn't imagine Ame giving a classic witch's cackle, and thought that maybe you could restyle it as "Evil Eye" or something. But then Ame asked "Why is the Suvi blue," and a moment later I realized what the cackle of the Witch of the World's Heart sounded like.
Listening to this whilst walking under a shimmering red sunrise and incrementally brightening sky was almost as beautiful as the episode itself.
Note to self, if I ever need someone to cover for me having a weird bathroom experience…definitely not Eursalon or Fox! “Put your face on my butt?”. “Fox is getting it on with a stuffed animal?” Hilarious but dayum!
When Silver refers to Suvi as "Suvi" instead of "Sky" while talking to Eursulon guarding the bathroom, was that a mistake or intentional? Because prior to and after that he does seem to use "Sky"
my guess is a mistake, gotta be hard to change the characters name on the fly in his head

I LOVE that you’re talking about the indicative reflexive note again! I keep thinking of it as a particular tone that would indicate a reflexive pronoun—which then makes me think of the language of spellcasting as a tonal language, and I imagine the reflexive note being a falling tone as I think of the way sound carries and sound waves fall as they drop away, and how our own voices sound different within our own bodies than when we hear ourselves recorded and played back to us…and the way that we interpret our own voices and tones…I have so many thoughts swirling around in my brain and wow I just love that there’s space for linguistics here 😭💛

May I just say thank you for recommending that we listen to this in cars with good sound systems, because the episode release schedule has lined up perfectly with how i borrow my dads car to help drive wares between his two book stores two the neighbouring town, and its a pretty new car with a very good sound system. I could feel the base from the name cloak ceremony vibrating the steering wheel as I was driving on the highway while listening on probably a bit too loud volume and it was incredible. What an amazing scene, you've really outdone yourself on the editing there Taylor!

The reverse actually. I really hope they don't go down that road. I think it would take away from their relationship. True love doesn't have to be romantic love and I'd love to see that play out in this world of witches and spirits.
Nice lil' fluff episode with great setup! The wait begins anew... Sound and music were fantastic again, but I found the glassy texture that starts at the mention of the icicle to be pretty distracting. The ceremony on the other hand had the hair on my arms stand up all the way through! 👌
