OH! OH! INTERNET LORE TIME! Okay, so, Brennan? A "lemon" is (or was, back in the oughtie days of wild internet fandom subculture) a term that authors would use to label their fanfics as Sexually Explicit (usually slashfic, frequently one-shots, often m/m or f/f ships--or 1x2+4x3+13x6x9 fics, shoutout to my GW people). It was part of a now-obsolete system of Citrus Ratings that were widely understood but rarely explained-- like a hanky code for pre-social media internet queers. Lemon ("explicit sex definitely happens") and Lime ("sexual themes or implied sex") were the most common, with Grapefruit occasionally used for esoteric or extreme Lemon content. It's from the age of hand-coded shrine websites and fandom webrings, when there were few codified spaces to publish fanfiction online, and the ones that did exist didn't allow adult content, or went through famously catastrophic purges of adult content, like the LJ Strikethrough. Early Online Fandoms had a vast and wonderfully baffling lexicon just for categorizing and identifying fics, so potential readers could immediately parse the tone, genre, subject/s, level of canonicity, maturity, and authorial intent, purely based on a string of nonsense qualifiers. That taxonomy has largely fallen out of use and been replaced by much more streamlined platforms and tagging systems, but sometimes you can still find the terms out in the wild, such as on podcasts with hosts who are absolutely 1000% exactly the kind of people I went to highschool with.

I love the idea of The Children’s Adventure as a way to work through character creation and all the things that happen before we ever meet our adventurers…before we ever hit Session 1. Many of us players typically don’t have a chance to do that when we play through campaigns and most backstories are blurbs we explain that might be woven into the story, but to have the opportunity to build characters as they grow up is brilliant. I can’t wait to hear all of the character beginnings because I think it would be something super cool for other campaigns to incorporate.
