[PUBLIC EPISODE] Solari: Episode 8 - Prelude Part 1

I'm only in the middle but this is so good. I wonder if Brennan will talk about the philosophical inspiration for XL-ZL, since I feel he's absolutely utilising his philosophy degree in this. SO GOOD

Brennan’s “the reason I exist is that this thing wanted me” got me a bit, as someone with challenging parental relationships. 😞

I have finally done it, I have repaired my headphones and only cracked and melted them a little bit! Solari here I come!

Brennan potentially manifesting a physical form of blockchain is simultaneously fucking me up and revving me up. I've been trying to figure out how to explain emotions to a friend who struggles with identifying them and I'd landed on blockchain as a metaphor and XL-ZL has opened a path that I am careening down in a serpentine pattern screaming "Help is here!" TL;DR Thanks for telling a really awesome story with really special characters. I love it here.

[edit up front: holy crap the preludes are exactly what I (we?) needed!!] As much as I enjoyed WWWO, I've been having a hard time getting into this story. I like the characters and their interactions, but everything feels a bit dislocated, like they've continuously been in liminal space since episode 1. Maybe it's because it feels like most of the events so far have been happening _to_ the characters rather than being driven _by_ the characters? Z & XL-ZL getting the space to initiate a call at the end of last episode felt like a second or third rev of the engine that hasn't quite caught yet — I wanted it to catch and roar to life the next episode, but I guess that wasn't to be. I hope the preludes can be a strong place for listeners to (re)start the story from.

"Thousands and thousands, like I'm new" is giving heavy "Thousands of foxes! Take a lemon, blow his back out" 🤣

Such a beauty of a scene. You can feel the personal history of these characters through the lens of the actors who know each other through their own shared histories Imagining a world where Brennan doesnt know Aabria would make me cry as well, just as XL-ZL cried at the knowledge of not knowing another instance in his characters choir "The way you will communicate past this point out in the world leaving notes and thoughts and queries and emotions behind to be picked up, a subtle language across the world. All of that will feel so much like an echo down a hallway in a room you are not in. As you are spoken to through that augery answering a question clearly through the web and all of you shake with the understanding"... "Be not afraid, I am with you, though only like this, this once, just as your choir is only like this, this once. Sweet child" "and you recognize this voice as the voice who first asked you who you were"

oooouuuggghh pls excuse me, my words are failing me in the UK heatwave. my entire reaction to this episode was the word, "juicy" over and over, and... imagine gesticulation somewhere between the chef's kiss hands 🤌 and forearm flapping akin to playing wii mario kart. WHAT an episode. ugh. yes.

I love that in our world there's two people, one growing another person and another actively parenting a tot and a newborn, doing story telling of a scene of a newly created life.

Totally respect the need for a prelude (and I know I saw a lot of people wanting one). I'm gonna take this opportunity to let some episodes build up, and then I'll be back with bells on 🫶✨️

I love the fact that the character art is being done by Nikolas Draper-Ivey! He is an awesome choice of artist for Solari.

So is this like a creative version of character creation session 0?

This is genuinely my favorite story style - dropping the audience in medias res at the beginning of a story and then having flashback vignettes that open up whole new motivations/questions/context for what’s happening (favorite example is the Dalinar flashbacks in Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson). I absolutely love the way it makes characters more complex, so glad it’s being done in this story to showcase the different factions and their motivations.

This is so GOOD

Backstory drop! The first episodes are going to hit so different after these prelude episodes. Gotta love a non-linear storyline.

Oh okay so XL-ZL’s prelude made me weep on my commute to work

I know some folks will think we should have had this first before the other episodes but I liked getting thrown into the universe and now going back and reexploring things.
