Hint! Episode 0: Character Creation
For Patrons only: Join GM Erika and the rest of the crew as they carve up, I mean....out...carve out...new characters for their journey into the past, and, of course, into myyyyssssteerrrryyyy. (When you read this in your head you have to draw out the word mystery like that or you're not a real fan.) And then prepare yourself for next week's prelude to a death, when our characters finally gather on the doom-dark grounds of the Boddie Estate.

Also the way you are playing a game named Hint but isn’t the Cypher System Hint by Jason Campbell threw me for a LOOP. I’m just catching up and realising it’s not THAT GAME.
This is so fun. I listened to Hint! Before listening to this, and it makes me want to listen again for the extra layers!
Hearing Lindy Hop name checked in my favorite podcast makes me so happy! Aabria, do you swing dance?! :) And yes, the name is related to Charles Lindbergh: Harlem dancers in 1927 made a joke that stuck for a century 😄
Oh if it's the 1920's then jazz is still in it's infancy. We're still in full SWING music's peak time.
So I didn't listen to this before the actual game play episodes. And I fully thought "Friend of Marlene" was a reference to Marlene Dietrich and was 100% into that. Head canon accepted.
As a child who was obsessed with Clue I can’t wait for this. I used to shuffle the deck and play *by myself* narrating and rolling for the characters to move around and solve the murder over and over again. I also had a very normal amount of friends, why do you ask?
Lou is playing The Wizard Savory!!!
I know I'm late to this, but Clue + Ludo = Cluedo
The word soccer comes from England. Also British people pronounce the h in herb because the poor people tend to drop the h so they do it to sound posh
Miss Scarlett is definitely inspired by Anna May Wong, a very celebrated actress that went through what Erica is describing in the 1930's. Wong was wrongful denied leading roles because of the hays code. That said, the hays code went into affect in 1934 and the first talkie premiered in 1927. If we were to depict Wongs career in 1927 it would be alot more thriving. Yes she would be denied roles because of racism in 1927. But we also need to celebrate what she was accomplishing at that point in history as a big star in the silent era and as a globally recognized fashion icon.
UGH I'm so excited!!!
HER FRIEND JO WHO DANCES
Gang I've run into a problem, I never played clue and have no idea how it works
Same. I know it's a murder mystery and everyone's named after colors but I've never played it or watched anyone play, nor have I seen the movie. 😂
Please note that American Girl Doll has a 1920s black girl named Claudie. I can't help but make connections.
Hannah Gadsby has a perfect answer/bit for al-yew-mininum (the correct pronunciation 😉) in Douglas that I'd refer you all to 😂😉
I may have listened to this like 5 times ... I love these characters, can't wait to see them interact in character
lol, that body-ody-ody joke was for me and I thank you for it. :D For real, this sounds like a great time!
That broach,,,,
I am so excited for all the intrigue
I grew up with two Beverly’s and an Ashley that were old family names so Cassidy didn’t make me bat an eye
My mother said she dated a Courtney in college (M).
I must now write a short romantic story titled “Cassidy and the Claw”
The ship name is Clawssidy
I really hope Miss Scarlet is the killer, since her real name is Ruby Shu and then someone can deliver the line "I guess the Shu fits"
Haaaaaa
Cassidy observing wealth and style he cannot partake in reminds me of Tom Wambsgans and I here for it.
I love that Ruby is a take on Anna Mae Wong! So excited for this
Aabriya I swear to god I will write that whole filthy fanfic you envisioned in the second you changed your mind about Cassidy..... i feel it in my bones
You're doing the Lord's work
Praying Claw gets her kisses in with Cassidy by the fourth episode 🙏🙏🙏
No laws when you’re drinking claws
Also im absolutely going to be running a Clue game like this now
Beyond excited!
I'm so jazzed for this, I cannot wait to see how Erika runs the game!
Cluedo, because out sounds like Ludo the boardgame 😂
did Brennan just call +5 Charles Lindbergh teh Nazi?
Just started the first campaign and I’m going to listen to this one live, very hyped!
Mr. Boddie seems quite bawdy indeed!
All the talk of scotch on the balcony reminds me of the balcony scenes from Boston Legal…
I hate to be THAT person, but I have bad news about the correct pronunciation of “row” as in a fight/tiff
I wondered if I had it wrong.
I keep imagining Mrs Peacock as being played by Anjali Bhimani
7000%
This is giving Gilded Age and I wonder how much of the show everyone has watched.
True fan reporting in
Johnny and Betty Body's middle names are Ottis and Dorothy so people call them Johnny Otti Body and Betty Dotty Body.
It was Fred, wasn’t it?
I have very fond memories of reading the Clue chapter books when I was little. Did anyone else read those?
Hell yes! I was also the type of kid to re-enact the stories and make up my own with the board game when I didn’t have anybody to actually play with.
Hey yeah! Striver’s Row reference! Have you ever read the play “On Striver’s Row” by Abram Hill? It’s really great, it reads like the American “Importance of Being Earnest”
Fritz Haber ass Professor Plumb.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH THERE'S A CHARAXTER BUILDING
Omg omg omg this is gonna be soooo good!!!! I’ve already listened twice
Love them e!!!
Thank GOD Aabria said it because while Brennan was speaking I just slowly looked over at my phone and went "...He did it!!!?! He absolutely did it!!" Cassidy either killed him, has been deeply in love with him since they were boys, or BOTH. I'm loving Plum, I love the idea of a war-traumatized man who just wants to bring a little joy instead, that's so cute. And Claw (great name) is DELIGHTFUL, I love the idea of someone further in their career not being as warm and receptive as they were when they were younger and desperate and how that effects their relationships. So fun!!!!
Of course this table brings that depth of characterization to a 4-episode spin-off of a board game spoofing a murder mystery. Can't wait.
As a native West Virginian it gives me great pride to know that Lou Wilson is playing a kinsman of my state. Very interested to see how Lou plays this Rural born, socialite whose money did not come from the coal industry of West Virginia. Also interested to see if Lou uses the tiny bit of the West Virginia accent or if he's going to go for the more socialite, prim and proper, annunciated words accent. Either way I'm on board for four episodes. Professor Arnold Palm did nothing wrong!!! I got your back Lou! 😂
u meen arnold plum? I'm congested m confused
Dear Lou describing Cassidy at a party, Watch it.
It bothers me more than it should that they said Allied instead of Entente
Should I play clue or know anything about it before watching?
I was hope we would get some extra characters from the deluxe version(s) of Clue, including Sergeant Gray, Monsieur Brunette, and Prince Azure (in a 2003 version called Clue FX). By the way, in 2016 Hasbro – the awful game manufacturer that they are – replaced Miss White with “Dr. Orchid” whose backstory included her being an illegitimate daughter to Mister Boddy. Obviously, that change did not last in future editions of Clue.
Love the “rowdy” choice
Is the artist Stephanie Brown?
Yes!
Cassidy was a rowdy huh? 👀
When Erika mentioned Col. Mustard was from a German American family, l could've sworn they were gonna have his first name be Herman as a cheeky reference to the Munsters, turns out l was only half right ;p
Mr Green is giving Brideshead Revisited 💅
(I never actually read the book or saw the movie)
The music so far in just this preview is wonderful
I know this is a post for Hint and WWW is currently over for the time being, but we never got a “Leveling Up (4 to 5) for our three heroes of Umora :(
i never heard any this. Is there a place were they talk about it?
Than̈k You All!
Cassidy is Tommy Merlyn from the Arrow to me and I love it
I am so hype for this. Are any of y'all planning to watch Clue in theatres when they play them with single endings? I have my ticket for ending #3 (which is my favorite ending).
Also is Peacock a few nods? Imelda (Midst?) and Parvati (aka that one contestant who was on Survivor and The Traitors?)
Speaking of hint, what is this phenomenon that 'some listeners' will understand re: Claw and Cassidy? Asking for a confused but intrigued friend 😅
So I don’t know if i’m misreading the situation but my gaydar was going off for Cassidy Greene and I assumed that Claw White clocked that immediately and that’s the vibe but I see gay shit everywhere so idk
to any doubters out there, take a Hint! This is gonna be a blast!
As someone who never had enough people around to play a full game of Clue as a kid, I'm incredibly hyped for whatever Erika has planned!
... ... ... ... "You can't say that, it's 1927." f***in killed me.
Can we have a guest appearance from Simon the chef
LOL'd at Pauline-from-"Sinners" era
Loving the characters! I'm thinking that the will is going to be discovered to put the blame on Cassidy. Though the person who actually did the murder is the person who would've planted the will to be found by someone else. I did want to say that it was very difficult to hear Brennan's backstory because the audio was so quiet. I was in my car and had to raise the volume considerably for that section
Erika: “Or as the rest of the world calls it, Cluedo!” 🔍 Aabria: “And the rest of them are wrong. Why you add an extra syllable? What that Clue do.” 🧐 Instantly bringing the most correct takes to the fireside 🔥
So hype for this. I love both Clue the movie and the game. I love the whole genre of Murder Mystery in a Manor. Excellent idea, Erika! Can’t wait to hear the WBN twist on the form!
Weapons manufacturer turned candy maker is a 10/10 backstory
Definitely adding that headcanon as Willy Wonka’s backstory
I know Erika said to push the movie out of our minds, but I am physically incapable of imagining Ms. Peacock as anything other than her movie version.
We can only hope Erika goes full Tim Curry.
Amazing! I love all of these characters immediately, I can't wait to see what shenanigans they get up to together. Also, I'm getting Darcy/Wickham vibes from the Cassidy and Boddie situation, it's like "what if Wickham wasn't the one who sucked?"
Johnny Boddie sounds like a fireside guest.
Hmmmm I grouping of rich influential socially minded folk who come together to spread and happen to discuss and share their different but all well meaning view points I know understand why John Boddies gonna get killed. 5$ says it was the CIA
Let's gooooooooooo
PHILLY MENTIONNNN THANK YOU AABRIA
I'M SO EXCITED! September is my birthday month, so Happy Birthday to me 😍❤️
Carnegie was an awful fellow. Same with Frick (said as someone from Pittsburgh where everything is named Carnegie or Frick)
I'm already so invested in Ms. Scarlet.
Ya’ll are insane and I love you
More useless board game trivia - when the game we call Clue was originally released (in England), it was called Cluedo as a cross between the word Clue and the Latin word “ludo”, meaning “play.”
Additionally, Ludo is the name of a game that's well known in Europe that uses a somewhat similar movement mechanic. It's not well known in North America, so they removed the Ludo reference
What *is* the face Aabria made when Erika said "John Boddie?"
They better post a video clip of that part!
Oooo an Aubrey representation. It's weird to hear, honestly haha
Heck yeah West Virginia representation!! Made me do an absolute double take at my phone this morning when I heard it
You're doing great, Erika!
Let's go!
Aabria, I love the White Claw joke, and I got v excited when I saw your character’s name.
👀 Thursday drop?!? Dope
Nice way to start the morning in NYC ♥️
A surprise to be sure but a welcome one.
Ah so excited!
Hyped for this!
Ahint hint
