Dammit! Here I am crossing my fingers for a Wizard Salamander to exist, and they turn out to be an NPC for the other NPCs who doesn't even get a line haha. The name fits though, I guess. Everyone loves the charismatic megafauna, and forgets about the salamanders :(

I am convinced that something terrible has to happen to Silver or Steel before this arc ends to round out Book 1 of the tragedy that Suvi lives in. I made myself let go of worrying that that's not Silver™ and just an elaborate ruse but there's no way everyone makes it to the end of this Arc. I just want them to be happy forever 😭

No idea how to describe my reaction to the luck check other than a small gasp interrupted by a large one (small at the result, large at the thought of what could happen after). Had I not been driving I’m sure I would’ve flipped my shit even more.
Holy shitballs, the sound editing for this episode! Also, just want to say, this was a CRAZY episode to listen to while driving.

There is very little I can say without spoilers but please know that I am TERRIFIED given what Aabria said in the Burning Questions. Just genuinely sat there biting my nails for like 20 minutes afterwards.

Epic scoring on this episode and that sound of the dam breaking was perfectly evocative! Ame making deals with her words and saving lives with her magic. Suvi wizarding up a plan and using her secrets. Eursulon banging on his shield to call the troops to him in the fog, and pushing a bear off a cliff. And of course Brennan killing it with his descriptions and making Silver look like a badass. I was feeling some real Lord of the Rings movies vibes here.

The tippytappy Suvi piano music as she sets the dam trap is one of my new absolute favorites- not to mention the choral voices when the dam comes down. Citadel brass has always had my heart and boy was it SOARING in the sweeping numbers here. 10/10 as always. The bar just keeps going up!
Truly a masterclass on how to weave storytelling and combat. This episode is the perfect encapsulated "Saving Private Ryan" vibe wherein everyone got to show their stuff- I mean, COME ON, Eursulon atop the ridge on a white horse as the injured soldiers flee to him? Suvi having the inflict wounds on the dam, the feather fall? Ame with calm emotions to focus the soldiers? THE TOMORI? I'm losing it yall.

This might be my favorite episode so far. From the incredible plan to the rolls that followed it as well as the GORGEOUS sound design and music. I listen to this on my way home from work and usually pause it for the second half, but once I got home I just sat there to listen to the rest. Incredible storytelling!
Can someone explain to me what Zero the counter spell tamori did? I've listened to it a bunch and still don't understand
[Potential Spoiler] I might be wrong, but I interpreted it as counterspelling a plant growth spell cast by one of the sorcerers (there were vines encroaching on the riverbed that stopped in air when Zero cast themselves and then fell to the ground, Brennan stating the vines were now manipulated only by the laws of nature, implying that they were manipulated by something else before)

My God I fully screamed and applauded at the end and realised I had just accidentally hit 100mph on (an empty) motorway. Also look I'm not a conspiracy theorist but someone with a magic doorknob was very quiet in the planning part.
I think part of the doorknob is having to install part of it in a town filled with enemies that could find it and their way directly to Ame's cottage.

The MUSIC in this one! Suvi's (atonal?) agitated piano followed by Ame's swelling strings, so good. Also, well done on the Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares reference! I might have had to re-listen to that part because I was too focused on the music and missed all the action, but the mood and style of the melody and harmonies was spot-on!
Gotta add, I know it's problematic and unlikely, but I am now rooting for more Spirit/Empire collaboration just so we get some more of that good wind orchestra music. I LOVE a good wind orchestra!

Now that was well worth the wait! EVERYTHING was so great! Firstly, the sound design in this episode was so on point. Oh my god. The creativity of the cast to navigate what seemed a hopeless scenario. Brilliant! Brennan. Just Brennan. I'm not sure if holding my breath for near on 50 minutes is all that good for my health but I'm too invested in this story to let pesky breathing noises interrupt my listening experience. 😆

Eurselon inspires me to play better Paladins. It's already my favorite class, but the way Lou just leans into it so hard, showing what it TRULY MEANS to be heroic, is sublime.
Right? I mean he’s such a classic KNIGHT in this episode, banging his shield, racing along the ridge, fighting to near death, leading the troops on a gleaming white horse - he deserved this moment! But his heroism speaks in such quiet devotion, self sacrifice. Somehow even in an audio only podcast, Lou manages to keep Eursulon present in a scene *through* (not despite) his silences. I can FEEL when Eursulon is standing by, attentive and careful. God what a paladin. What a friend.

This was BEYOND worth the wait! The planning and execution of this plan is D&D at its best, and you guys all brought it to life in spectacular fashion. When I listen to WBN, it feels like reading the best kind of book - I can see all the action happening in a lush mind-movie in my head. The performances and the brilliant editing & sound design bring it to life so vividly. Y'all have lightning (bolts) in a bottle here.
