[PUBLIC EPISODE] The Wizard, the Witch and the Wild One: ep037 "Who Goes There"
The fog of war floats in the valleys and ravines of the Shroud Mountains like a ghost. It erases. It confuses. It hides. It lies. And through the veil, those unlucky few soldier on, to take in the view, and plan their attack, above a place so many will never leave. Anyone can turn around, but thresholds were made for crossing, and we've got business with the butcher.

I've been relistening and for anyone wondering about the Shapechangers reaction to the Sorcerers, it is explained in basic terms in "Everything," S2, Ep2
I was late to the game, but have finally caught up. I finally feel qualified to participate in WBN chat!
New ice-breaker question: Who is your favorite NPC, and why is it The Fox?
Taylor, I just heard the part where Brennan described the candle going out of focus and splitting into two AND YOU MADE THE SOUND OF THE CANDLE SPLIT IN MY HEADPHONES. My guy. What the fuck. You bring your A game to every scene and we are so lucky to get to benefit from your talents.
I don’t have anything horny to say this week the only scene with sworn in it is too cute 🥴
I wonder if Brennan roled initiative between the sorcerer and the Imperial Ships in the sky. If the Imperial ships dropped first, I wonder if they would have actually attacked, instead of just banishing him away.
Or rather, would the wizards have attempted to capture somehow?
Fox with bottle = human with clipboard. They can go anywhere.
You can go far in life with a solid prop. Many doors will open when you’re yelling “A little help? My hands are full!”
I'm extremely happy that the language thing didn't kill The Fox in his first conversation with the shape shifters and only came into play with the owl. I was also so suspicious of that cabin to begin with so good to be vindicated.
I think Fox really is a shapeshifter, because he's clearly GoAT.
Congratulations on winning the comment section
Incredible episode as always and of course leaving me frothing at the mouth for more 🤣
Horse with heroism reminded me of Horse from Centaurworld!
Hang on, what was the reroll on Stealth when Vandal gave the help action (wrote cusses over places Suvi would've stepped)? It was "a high roll," but I don't think we got a number
As soon as they got to Abassin, the music caused my brain to immediately picture it as part of the continent of Tamriel lmao
humbly requesting the end of the limerick
Damn, the HORSE made me cry
When they were talking about how, if they went into the holdout, they might also become trapped, I just kept thinking about the door knobs. But maybe Ame is saving them to use as a last resort? Maybe she doesn't want the wizards to know about this type of travel? Can't wait to find out.
The Fox is simply the best, one of the best lil' guys ever created
I still say some iteration of " I mitigated all the food", and my friends have zero context, and it makes me smile EVERY time!
Hey - I love all you guys.
ty for ep, yall r the bomb
The whole time they were talking about how to get Silver out I was yelling "Ame The Doorknobs!!!!!??????" Perhaps????
Oh my god
Saved this to listen to post-election and while I’m less than a minute in there is comfort in familiar voices, communal story telling, and the easy balance between humor and seriousness. Thank you for creating art that is a balm.
As always, I would die for the Fox. The absolute screech I let out at, "That stuff sounded like what Suvi would say!" Also, it must be said, I loved how the two different Ghibli films kind of overlapped in this episode (now that our whole party is together) without either one undercutting the other. Like there's no doubt that dealing with Firebringer disappearing, and the spirit's cliff trap, and the military strategy is all high-stakes and intense; but also Ame giving Sworn tea and saltwater taffy, and the ink demon goofs, and everything the Fox says and does is all genuinely silly in a way I love. In addition to it being good and interesting storytelling on a meta level, it also in-world really shows what value they bring to each others' lives. Hearing Suvi and Sworn keep their cool after Firebringer's banishment and reassuring Ame to help her power through, and then hearing the genuine joy in Suvi's voice at the Fox... it's like, oh yeah, they're friends because they complete each other, they give each other what they're missing without each other.
the concept of Sorcerous Houses has done the impossible and made sorcerers cool to me, well done Brennan that's a feat in itself
Gaothmai is unfortunately incredibly sick
Next ep; Brennan delivers on 1x Ghost Army. Also, if something untoward DID happen to Firebringer due to that noble, y'all better burn those Houses ALL to the fkn ground.
Thank you Dice Gods for protecting the Fox today
Also, I love how the outcome of the cottage trap could have been different had the initiative rolls been in an other order
"I will give you spy chickens forever" 🤌✨
The sound that plays as the illusion fades is SO unnerving!!! What is that, liquid boiling in a glass flask?
Chef’s kiss to Taylor. The sound design for this episode is fantastic.
Brennan, please please don't almost run the fox off a cliff ever again. thank you but also please keep him running his mouth. also thank you
....anyone else not totally convinced that was really silver??
Yep. Also the answer to I love you was "we're in trouble"?
Seriously, take Lou’s dice away. Force him to roll non-cursed. 😱
Gaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
A perfect after voting treat~☆ the newest wbn~☆ while I sew industrial straps onto a witchy dress for the qveen herby concert I'm going to on Thursday, and my partner is crocheting a fox with a witch/wizard hat in red and a cape in blue holding a tiny bear~☆ much nicer than last week's date night where we watched the gasronauts pilot and then got overstimulated trying to figure out how to feed all of dropout bc maybe they are not having second breakfasts~☆
#TeamFox 🦊❤️
W.W.S.D.? What would Suvi do? Good advice... sometimes.
The way the Fox looks up to Suvi and tries to emulate her attitude means everything to me. Another banger of an episode, as always!
“get a real shape” is devastating actually
The fox is the mvp as always!!!
I love a "Fox's Big Day" Episode
"Fuck you, and fuck your password! Get me to the man in charge!" The Fox is the best character ever!
this show has heavily inspired the Homebrew setting i have made for my home game. Brennan’s descriptions of spirits and magic on podcast never fails to impress and inspire. My man is at the top of his game here.
Do spirits call it "the real" or do they have a name for it from their own perspective?
Casting heroism on the nervous horse was exactly what I needed today.
The sorcerers and great houses are incredibly bad ass, I fear
AAAAAAAAAAAAAH
I’m just gonna say, if Fox dies, I’m rioting.
*SPOILERS* I always listen to episodes twice: once to feel it, once to get it. To hear all of the little ways Brennan coded the cottage as bad: the amount of times he called it a cottage, the trees, the clarification of every step, was so cool to hear both times. Bravo all, as always.
I always considered listening 2x but never have! I’m going for it now, you’ve encouraged me 🤪
Enzo my goat #cartography #directionallychallenged
Much needed on a day like today
Loved it! Excited for more
The fox was not lying when he said it’s too easy. Only time he had a small stutter was when he didn’t speak the language. As always amazing sound design and visual descriptions
That cliffhanger was so brutal for me to need to wait two weeks 😭
This episode had a lot of cliffhangers!
Staying awake until 1am just to listen to this episode as soon as possible. What an episode it was! Think I held my breath for those last 10 or so minutes though. Those clutch rolls, oh my god.
If you use Pocket Casts, it seems they upload a few hours there before here. :)
in this house we honor the cock
the fox and the inky bois really came in clutch this ep!!!!
Lou going “Give me an insight check” gave me CHILLS
i would love for him to dm something publicly one day
For someone who is in a lot of trouble, Silver's voice sounded like he was doing fine. Just have to say it.
Certainly came off that way, didn't it? Hope it's not some horrible deception. I think I personally put it down to Silver beiing another wizard that is conditioned to the Citadels missions of borderline supremacism. Another spinning cog that comes off somewhat emotionless, even in pure helplessness.
OMG. The Fox, the dice. My heart is racing. So so good. I will definitely have to listen to it again. Just absorb everything. Pins and needles 😎🦊
This coming out today was perfect timing. I need a distraction. Thank you honored friends for making this lovely podcast for us to escape from reality for just a moment.
FUCK you and FUCK your password! Get a real shape!
This is not a place of breakfast!
“Get a real shape” best become a shirt soon!!
I'm very glad I have a wonderful distraction today
"I'm skilled in healing" THIS IS TRIGGERING AND THE ENTIRE CAST KNOWS WHY! 🤣🤣🤣
Stop 🤣
"Welcome to my part of this beautiful campaign. There are no pancakes here. This is not a place of breakfast."
HUGE moves from the fox what a legend
"Get a real shape!" had me feeling ashamed that I ever doubted him
Can't wait for the fireside chat on this one, the characters/players really showed up in creative problem solving. SO to Lou/Eursalon for catching most of Brennan's traps and looking out for the group (whenever he clocks shit I think back to "I been playing DND with Brennan for a long time" and god I'm so thankful for it). This was an episode chock full of environmental details and I appreciate these moments as I imagine the players taking notes while being given a moment to think and process more. I am worried about the next episode though. Knowing what we know, what the fuck are they going to do? Also, not that this helps them at all in this moment but I hope Eursalon remembers his favor from Will Gallows before this campaign ends.
Oooo. Yes. Yes
" I love you" " I think we're in trouble" Is the " I love you" "I know" of a generation or I'm gonna RIOT
Same!!! Makes me fear it's not silver after all
