Time to start thinking about the future...
Hey guys,
As this will be the final month I'll be working on Midnight Sin, it's time to start thinking about my next game.
I want to take everything I've learned from my previous three games and use it to make my best game yet.
Over the coming weeks, I'll be posting some polls to get a better understanding of what you enjoy most.
Let's start with the following question:
Time is always the biggest limitation in game development. There's only so much I can create in a month, and spending more time on one aspect of a game inevitably means spending less time on another.
If you had to choose, which would you prefer?
A) More story-oriented
More development time is spent on story, relationships, and character development. This usually means a smaller cast, fewer sex scenes, and sexual content appearing later in the game, but with greater emotional payoff.
B) More content-oriented
More development time is spent on creating girls, sex scenes, and variety. This usually means more sexual content earlier in the game, but less focus on story, relationships, and character development.

i wouldnt turn down a remake of "moth" or something similiar. anyways hopefuly you dont change a specific genre..
TBH, I think you had a good balance between the two in this last game. So, I would say, keep the same approach you had on Midnight Sin.
I think your games give too easy 'S**' I think a bit more grinding on prime characters would be more perfect (either story/gameplay oritned) while throw non-main characters for earyly screen to attract people.
Honestly, I think your ability to make a fun lasting game is outstanding. However I would recommend making your sex scenes with AI. Nothing worse than earning a reward that just does not seem like a reward. I have seen some insanely good AI development and it would put your games over the top if you really worked on that aspect. Once again this is just an observation. Really excellent work on the story and game development, but take it the next level with AI.
The poll is already ended, but if I can telling you my thoughts on it and what I supposed to vote for this I want to tell you that I wanted more to see some story in your games than "fapping materials" or more girls in your games... I' a big fan of Ur AVN game "Man of the House" so the "fapping side" is very much implemented in your game tbh. Now it will be really appreciated to see more a beautiful story greatly build, and more again if you're pretending to have intentions about create "your most beautiful AVN game since now". 😉
Each game had both story and content, so I think both can be done in a satisfying way. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing a few characters from Man of the House come back, with something like : a few years later what have they become ? And I think I'm still in love with Amy lol (still doing sexy fan arts with her from time to time :D)
In fact, both 'Story-oriented' and 'Content-oriented' are equally important, and I do understand time is limitation. People nowadays tend to compare the new game with BaDIK and games made by NLT mainly because, in theory, the two elements can be well balanced during gameplay. From what I’ve observed, as long as neither A nor B is overemphasized and both are given proper attention, players will generally be satisfied. Players may not notice if you lean heavily toward a story-focused design. But content-oriented is another matter — players can easily tell when there simply isn’t enough of it.
Likewise, when it comes to content-focused design, whether aiming to broaden the player base or satisfying the existing players' fetishes, development time inevitably limits the number of scenes. That said, I believe it’s better to incorporate diverse genres alongside natural plot progression, rather than relying on single or repetitive genre scene. I hope my point comes across clearly. But, Faerin, you are nice guy, cuz you understand the importance of feedback and take action.
More Sex please. Why play a story that culminates in one or only a few sex scenes? Yeah, can be a payoff for a well written narrative but blueballing for months (as these games take a LOT of time to develop) is often tiresome (to me at least). Mindless fucking can also be tiresome. Striking a balance between story and sex is key though. 60% sex 40% story if I had to weigh it. It's not easy and all depends on what kind of story you want to tell. Plus: Taboo is always nice, give us an option to edit relationships ;)
My favorite game of yours is Mystwood Manor, especially because there was a bigger cast of girls (and more variety), the gameplay in this one was also the best of the 3 for me, i really enjoyed the management aspect of the hotel. I think Midnight Sin really lacked in diversity of girls (only 4 really) with Kate and Rebecca having limited content. So i'd say you should go back a little from what you did in MS which frankly was my least favorit so far. I don't really know which of the 3 games you consider is more content-oriented but i'd vote for something more MM like, and i chose a bigger cast (not something crazy like 20 girls but around 8 would be cool). All in all i enjoyed all 3 of your previous game so i expect to like the next one also no matter the direction you pick.
Man of the House is still the gold standard for me when playing these games and I'm constantly looking for those like it but the style seems to have mostly died which makes me sad (Though a bit more on the "content" front would have been nice in that one as it seemed to end a bit too early. I would love to see someone go back to that style though I can understand if the majority decisions go in another direction. For me, Mystwood was a bit much, I haven't played your most recent game as the "story dynamic" and middle aged to older protag isn't quite my cup of tea though so I don't really have an opinion on this one. I will say as a side note, the "Dreams" idea that certain developers have been adding lately where they can add the spicy content without compromising the story is a nice middle ground.
❤️🖤
female protag ;)
These two should be the main focus for your erotic game and balanced out. People might hate me for this, but I'd cut down on the gameplay. When it comes to porn an engaging kinetic novel beats great gameplay with flat characters IMHO. On the other hand, actual gameplay is what Faerin is known for and really good at, so it's not an easy choice. But if I had to choose between story and content (= erotics vs sex) I'd go with more erotics. Edit: Sorry, Faerin addressed this issue before anyway. Me personally, I'd love a return to the MS theme, but that would open up a whole other can of worms...
Stories spice up the content! I honestly really dug Mystwood Manor management.
I guess with a 50/50 split we're not really helping 😂
About half and half. literally one vote would make it so. as for me, i voted for story since I like a smaller roster of women like in Midnight Sin, but at the same time I hope for more gameplay for what it’s worth. More to spend time on instead of skipping time all the time, though I know most people don’t like/use the needs system from MotH. Plus that might be hard to increase the difficulty of throughout the game so it isn’t just the same thing over and over again but IDK
It would be cool if you spent some time doing DLC's. Maybe expand Mystwood Manor a bit as well. Do crossovers. Man of the house still has an awesome environment. You could update it
Is it too much to ask for both!!
Unfortunately, yes. (Unless you have some pointers on sefl-cloning ;)
idk which one choose... maybe story-oriented? idk... i would like to see something like Being a Dik . Story, free roam , mini-games , really funny\silly jokes/situations/dialogs , more emotional story and scenes , a lot of fun ,characters ,freedom in what you want to become and etc. . Now after playing Midnight sin i can say that its in my favorite games list now, and if in any game the dev is you - i know i can enjoy that game.
❤️🖤
In the next game I would like to see a "landlady" with big boobs
Multiple please :)
I rather have a good and believable story than a formulaic landlady/tenant situation where the landlady and the roommates are throwing themselves on the MC from the first minute.
I'm obviously not a game maker by any means so I won't pretend to know how hard it is to do. But, I think just looking at some of the top earners kind of hints at a decent mesh. A great game NEEDS a great story, but it also has to have somethin to attract folks. Eternum, once in a lifetime, companion of darkness, etc all definitely have sex scenes but they also have good stories. Just my two cents.
I'm torn. Somewhere in between. I loved the Mystwood Manor gameplay a lot, even if it wasn't "content" focused. In fact it may have the least sex of any of your games. So I picked "content" given that by that I mean, I want a fun game to play that also has porn in it. Not necessarily a sex romp. I haven't played Midnight Sin since a *really* early build so I can't really comment on it yet. I'm waiting to buy it on Steam. But I liked what I did play once upon a time.
Maybe move away from visual novels and go towards something without renpy? Maybe pivot into animated 2dcg sandbox games
Aduble Games/AVN are a lot of things, and I think you get most of them very right. And the answer is both... We want fap but also a good story. It's a balance. Yes, it's cool to hear a story has 20 love interests, but... how deep into their stories do we go? Are they a real relatable character, or are they just a cardboard prop with fuckholes? On the other hand, is it hot? Anyone can type a couple letters on their browser and bring up 1,000s of free snippets of mediocre pr0n. What people crave is actual, meaningful fap. Not too deep... we don't need wuthering heights, but give us a WHY and then let us watch HOW. And never ever underestimate good animations. Two animated sprites humping is not hot. The build, the burn, the unique details of how each person gets theirs. That is memorable and profitable fap. Steps of Debauchery is excellent at this... lots of WHO, lots of interesting HOW, and really delicious WHY. And what the entire genre needs is more depth and more completeness. It is SO FRUSTRATING how many games introduce a dozen beautiful, interesting love interests and each develop a solid "hook" that opens up a really cool intense back story AND the possibility of an intense future... and then nothing. Credits roll. (I'm looking at you, Taffy Tales.) Look, these don't have to be perfect works of fiction, but c'mon... finish what you start. So my answer, I guess, is... we want better. Better fap, better story. It needs meaning and quality, or it's just another meh game that is forgotten in a couple months.
🖤
In addition to the first comment, I had a bit of a think about the gameplay aspect. MwM gameplay was good, I would have enjoyed it as a game, though probably wouldn't have gone out of my way to play a game like that (not really my genre of game) but a big factor why it didn't work is because... well, simply put, we are thinking with the wrong part of the body when playing games like these. I don't want to be too distracted by the gameplay. I want to think about what to do next and where to go, not optimizing numbers or resource allocation. I don't want to be focused on difficult gameplay, I'm already thinking of how to unlock the next scene.
So I've always preferred a smaller cast and a focus on the relationship growth. Your first game will always be among my favourites, but I kind of never do more than the required content for the non-main cast, because I wasn't emotionally invested in them. Aside from the massage therapist and the regular therapist, I everyone outside the main house I never got too invested in. As for the second game, I never got that into it. I like a grindy gameplay loop, I know I might be a bit weird here, but I like it when I have to spend time doing tasks in order to progress. But that game just felt like it was JUST tasks, with a bit of story progress every now and then. And because it felt like the content was spread around a cast too large, I don't really remember any of them. And the gameplay felt highly disconnected from the content itself. I'd rather play a point and click than a minigame completely unrelated to what I want to see. But the third game was always one of my favourites as well, though didn't QUITE hit the same level of perfect as the first one. I'm a massive fan of the tease part of the game and the characters slowly being "corrupted" from it, but it feels like the entire cast in Midnight Sins were barely closet perverts from the beginning. It was still great, especially as it was heavily focused on the cast, but it felt more like everyone was looking for an excuse to get into MC's pants, rather than being slowly seduced and "corrupted" into it. (And I don't mean corrupted like mental manipulation, but more like your first game with Claire, Veronica and Emma. I'm voting A. I think you should pick a theme or two for each girl and build up intensity over the relationships with the story, rather than make a collection of as many interests as possible. Much like the first game. If I want just images or animation with as many characters as possible, I wouldn't play games for it, there's already near infinite amount of variety available online, but not infinite amount of any single type of content.
That's very difficult to answer but I think that in the end the mix of a very good story and the content is the very decisive factor. There must be reasonable gameplay for this. You had an interesting story in all 3 games that was also exciting to play. For me, MwM wasn't easy to understand of the gameplay, so I missed the introduction or tutorial.
That’s not such an easy question to answer! 😉 As has already been mentioned here, there is more than enough simple material out there for masturbation. A mere string of images and animations—even if they are well-produced—does not constitute art. Conversely, a heavily story-driven game with very little sex also misses the mark for this genre; at that point, you might as well just play *The Witcher 3* or *Kingdom Come*. *Man of the House* was good because it featured a fairly extensive storyline and a relatively large number of locations; *Midnight Sin* focuses more on the sex; but the one I enjoyed most was *Mysteood Manor*, as it struck a good balance between having a sufficiently substantial story and providing enough sexual content. It would have been perfect, however, if the hotel management aspect—specifically the business simulation element—had been given a bit more weight. Many years ago, there was a game where you had to manage a brothel while simultaneously keeping your girls happy—especially those working behind the scenes to ensure the whole operation ran smoothly. That was surprisingly challenging for an erotic game; something along those lines would be very interesting.
Not sure you'll ever get a clear answer out of these polls, and people from marketing know that what people say (and think) they want, is not always what they really want. I think the way to go is find what you're passionate about and do that, it will show through your work. But to answer the poll question, Always Story, Story is not just the glue, it's also why we care. Or to rephrase the poll question a little bit: To choose between more girls I don't care about and more lewd scenes, or have fewer girls but who I care about, I would choose the latter every time.
❤️🖤
Important have game strategic and not the same story line of always
What would you say was your focus of Midnight Sin? e.g. story or content, so we have a benchmark to base a decision on.
I would say MnS was definitely more story-oriented.
Story…👍💯👌
Hey I know you 😉 Milfheim crew 💪
More SEX !!
I love story games, still I clicked option B. Why? I experienced some games in this genre that managed to bring lots of variety, lots of characters and develop a real *slice of life"-feeling just by their backgrounds and how those interconnected without a greater story. But this approach is rarely seen and made well in the genre. I saw so many good things from you so far, I would really appreciate you trying.
I've always enjoyed more "slice of life" / story based games...
❤️🖤
Beautiful characters is the basic. Good animation is the core to keep the community interested but the differentiator between average, good and excellent is the storyline - at least for me
A good storyline is essentially the glue that holds the individual parts together and transforms them into a cohesive whole.
I might be in the minority here, yet I’d choose a third option… gameplay oriented. The reason Mystwood Manor clicked for me was neither the deep storytelling (albeit it was good), nor a vastly amount of adult content (albeit it was also fine in this regard). But the refreshing gameplay elements not present on almost any other AVN out there.
While I personally enjoy developing (and playing) games with more gameplay (that's why I decided to make MwM), there's a reason I didn't include this option: The feedback I received the most (by far) on MwM was along the lines of: I play these games for the porn. If I wanted gameplay, I'd play a "real" game. Sadly, I think it just eats up too much development time that most players would rather see spent on more story-/sexual content.
Story is a way to go, fapping material is easy to find these days..
Agreed 👍
