.When. .Life. .Gives. .You. .Tangerines. 1x7 Audio

ngl i kinda liked this format lol

Also Jenny is the little girl from train to busan

yes V from bts, and the lead actor are really close friends. He’s also good friends w IU and he guest starred in one of her mvs which was like a short film called love wins all. It’s so good. He and a few of the bts boys have been on her YouTube series where they sing with her and do an interview. Also the mom that plays Jenny’s mom here, recently is in a variety show that jimin was a guest on and she reenacted as Jenny’s mom’s character on that show. Lol

I won’t lie tho her daughter made it seem like they were poor the whole time but that definitely wasn’t the case she lived a decent life. Like it seem they stop worrying about money right after the 3rd child.

Gwan-sik became First Lady before the release of GTA 6!!!! It’s good we got a more chill episode. Last one was devastating 🙁🙁

GEKS COME BACK!!! This must be the Ocean’s doing give us back the Geks!!!🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊 y’all must have devil fruits or April 1st just don’t like y’all????

Omg I woke up and had one hour before work, but it's still not here😭😭

Cmon man😔

No way the new ep is still not uploaded 💀

Oh no its not here yet 😰 (I just woke up)

I'm gonna sleep.. I hope I wake up n see update from both channels! that will make my morning better 💗✨

im bored and at work!!! i commutee how come the video always drops when im on the train omw home with no good signal T_T

guys pleasseeee

Almost forgot abt this drop 🤣

Make it up to the geks by posting this ep first lol

⛺️🧘🏼‍♀️ , even tho I feel were not getting anything today… , just I hope McKay feeling better so he can join the reaction🩶

I've been seeing lovely runner's edits everywhere because it's anniversary i guess, and I always thought gek boys would love it so much, but with 1 drop of kdrama it will never come true😭😭 just my new random thought to be sad about😞

Friendly reminder to hit that record button :)

just say you hate us

Should I sleep or should I wait

I'm waiting for a new episode today☺️

I'm so sad about once a week I didn't even wanna camp but here I am because this show is too good. 😫😫 I love the next episode can't wait! Hope no tech issues again! 😂😂

V is friends with both Gwansik and Aesun's actors, he even starred in IU's music video. Suga is also friends with IU, he has a few songs with her. Jungkook had crush on IU when he was younger, not sure about now. Show is called tangerines, cause Jeju island is famous with its tangerines

Jenny's mother is such a bum...

I'm a little sad we're still getting one upload and a new live action show is getting two a week.

Cannon asking if IU is Ae-sun's actress's real name as if McKay has not been saying it every episode repeatedly😭

Answering the question of "where are the tangerines?", the title of the drama actually means "Thank you for your hard work" in the Jeju Korean dialect. Thanking someone for their hard work is very common to say to family, friends, coworkers, etc. When they were picking the English title for this, I think they wanted to use a common phrase that English speakers use, but also relates to the theme of the story, so they chose "when life gives you lemons" and changed "lemons" to "tangerines" because Jeju tangerines (hallabong) are very well-known.

I think you guys would like English cc vs English subtitles possibly, not really an issue but it’s just been bugging me at parts

but in all seriousness ty for doing ur best to work w what y’all got and still giving us smth!!

i too am petitioning for double uploads lol

random fact: the little girl from Train to Busan is the teenager with the pink tracksuit Geum-myeong is tutoring

Thank you for finding the solution and uploading this despite the video issues 🙏 also I don’t think I ever realized how much Jack talks when I watched the normal videos lol, now I can hear him so clearly

Yes, private tutoring is illegal in South Korea even to this day. There are tutoring institutes where people can access classes and often, these are not only for school-aged people, but also business people, housewives, university/college-aged adults etc. I used to work at the largest English institute/academy in Korea and we would run classes from 7am to 10:30pm at night Mon-Sat so people could fit classes into their already busy schedules. Some people go to improve their English before going overseas to live in an English-speaking country. Others need better English proficiency to get a promotion or obtain a certain role at work or a job at an international company. Some just want to maintain English skills, gain fluency or build on an interest. Either way, they are technically not allowed to employ a private tutor to teach them individually.

Please react IU's killing voice 🙏🏻 if you interested IU.. Aesoon's real kpop moments... https://youtu.be/wDfqXR_5yyQ?si=yt0ZuxbOfLSye7uk

I missed Park Bo-gum (Young actor for Gwan-sik) in the later part of the series too. In my head, he’s how their youngest kid would’ve looked like had he not passed in ep6 🥹 yeah going for the jugular with this comment 😅

Thank you for this! It wasn’t actually that bad watching like this since we can hear you guys clearly. It would’ve been waaaay worse if there were issues with the audio.

I’ve rewatched WLGYT so many times but i finally realized that Jammy/Jenny’s mom looked into Geum-myeong’s background and paid the dorm to not put her on the list so that she’s in a precarious spot and be more tempted to accept the offer of cheating on the college entrance exams for Jenny. Soooo evil.

McKay saying Diabolical Rizz at the feet rubbing part hahaha

Wow even though it was just audio, I really enjoyed the reaction. Keep it up!🧡🧡

IU is A-list celebrity/artist queen of korean media as an actress and singer 💗🙇🏻‍♀️

I mean…. I was hoping this was a legit April fools joke. It’s sad that it isn’t. 🫠

Now my only question is how are y’all gonna upload this to youtube.. 😭

43:10 is that cannon crying?

on min 41:10 Carter sounds like he's tearing up/ crying!

Ahhhh every flashback with our goated auntie (aesuns mom) makes me tear up broo 🥹

BLOODHOUNDS SEASON 2 OUT THIS FRIDAY! I almost forgot lol

Just woke up to peak

I can read the subtitles WAY better!

YOO idk if y'all noticed, when Aseun laid on the ground she started reciting the nostalgia poem that Gwansik said out loud before they went to Busan.

Lmao why can I see Jack so clearly. I just imagine his face reacting and laughing at this. looool

This is better than nothing! Thanks for the efforts Geks!

You know what, even though there were technical issues and we only got the audio, I still really really enjoyed this reaction. I could genuinely picture your guys’ faces the whole time, like I could just see the uncontainable grins during the wholesome moments and imagine your expressions during the parts that had you emotional or riled up. I guess that just shows how well you get to know reactors when you’ve been watching them for so long, you kind of already know their reactions without even seeing them haha. So don’t even stress about it, this was still such a good reaction! Keep up the great work guys and I can’t wait for Tangerines again next week 🍊

This is hilarious lmaoo could this be the Gek's first "podcast" hahaha I appreciate you guys trying your best this is much appreciated! Can't wait to watch/listen to this commentary xd we purple you Geks 💜🫰 (Also Tangerines twice a week for the emotional distress hehe)

The banning/regulation of tutoring has to do with the insane pressure on children in Korea to make it into the top 3 universities. Basically, imagine if every parent in America forced their child to get into Harvard, Yale, or Princeton, and if you didn't get into those schools, then you were considered a failure in life and wouldn't get a good job. Parents poured their entire life savings on tutoring for their child from a young age. So to offset that burden for poor families, the government banned tutoring to give more of an equal footing for children from poor economic backgrounds who couldn't compete with rich kids. This obviously did not go well, because people just ended up getting tutored in secret. So the government lifted the ban later. However, this became a national issue again because lots of cram schools started opening up and running until past midnight. It became the norm for students to go to school from 8am - 3pm and then go to cram school and study until past midnight, come home at like 2am and do it all over again the next day. If you didn't study until late, students would feel like they were behind other students that were staying even later. They are competing for limited seats for the best schools after all and your entire future is decided by one test- basically the Korean version of the SAT. There have been many cases of suicide due to academic pressure. So the govt had to step in again and force cram schools to close at midnight (crazy, I know) to help give students better work life balance. Part of the reason why Korea is suffering from a low birth rate is also because of this toxic culture. Parents know that if they have a child, they will have to send them to private tutoring, and these cram schools are not cheap. Parents sometimes work multiple jobs and never see their children just so they can send them to tutoring. And children who see their parents sacrifice so much for their schooling, feels the pressure to perform well. It's grueling.

Oh Jenny’s actress is the little girl from Train To Busan!

Gwan Sik's younger actor, Park Bo-gum is the sweetest 💖

So glad i was asleep when this and the announcement came out. 🥲

If yall ever react to anything by IU please drop it here too😔🙏

Chun Doo-hwan, the “president” (aka military dictator) who banned private tutoring, is also one of the most hated leaders in SK history. Second only to orchestrating the 1979 coup that put him in power, he’s most well known for ordering the violent suppression of the May 18 Democratization Movement in Gwangju the next year. The movement initially consisted of college students protesting against Chun’s martial law government, but soon involved the entire city after the military started beating and torturing the students for “being communists.” Eventually this event culminated in Chun ordering the military + literal TANKS to storm the whole city, killing hundreds in the process. My mom is a Gwangju native; she was only a kid during this time, but she tells me she remembers smelling tear gas in the streets and seeing her friends’ injured older brothers coming in from the protests. Right-wing groups in Korea today frequently deny that the massacre even happened, while Chun died of natural causes in 2021 (aged 90). The eighties were a time of explosive economic growth and extreme crimes against humanity— crimes that were only recently brought to the public consciousness by films like “1987,” “Taxi-Driver,” “The Attorney,” and the drama “Youth of May.” Incidentally, Jeju has an even more painful history of oppression and censorship. I think the one valid critique I’ve seen of “When Life Gives You Tangerines” is its failure to acknowledge the Jeju Uprising of 1948, which involved the military’s systematic massacre of Jeju civilians under suspicion of communism. Evidence indicates that the massacre continued well into the mid-fifties, resulting in the destruction of about 70% of the island’s homes and the deaths of an estimated ~100,000 (!!!) people. This genocide is basically why the Jeju dialect is dying out today, because there aren’t many people left alive who speak it fluently. Aesun and Gwansik would’ve been young while the initial killings were happening, but they most definitely would’ve felt its shocking consequences on their surrounding community… and Auntie’s generation definitely would’ve witnessed the massacre firsthand. I sometimes think about an alternate reality where this show actively engages with the generational trauma of this event, even if it risks offending the sensibilities of modern politicians.

Yeah it’s infamously known that Jungkook had a crush on IU back in the day and now both V and SUGA have done collabs with her which is hilarious 😭 Poor Jungkook can never live that down

oooooh jack loves the chisme

IU is a huge K-pop artist who has won many awards for her singing, and she also writes most of her own songs. She's the Idol of IDols, and jungkook had a huge crush on her. She started as a singer before becoming an actress. It would be great if you could feature her on your GEKpop channel 😊 The MV for Love Wins All, featuring V, is a must-watch, as well as the live clip of the song. She also collaborated with Suga on "Eight".. She has so many great songs that you will definitely enjoy reacting to 🎶✨

I remember while this show was airing a huge complaint people had was about Gwan-sik’s older actor, mostly because Park Bo-gum is so beloved and I think a lot of people were watching just for him. You do still see young Gwan-sik ofc because the show goes back and forth in time, but once we start spending more time in their older era, he’s naturally mostly in flashbacks. Meanwhile IU still stays very present since she also plays their daughter, so I think that made the change even more noticeable for some people. But honestly, I want to give a lot of love to both of the older actors. Ae-sun’s older actress is so perfectly cast, and while I get why some people say Gwan-sik’s older actor doesn’t look exactly like Park Bo-gum, there’s still some resemblance. What matters more to me is that he still kept Gwan-sik’s softness. He just feels older, rougher around the edges, more scruffy, more protective in a very dad way, especially as a laborer who’s been worn down by life. Underneath all of that he still feels like the same person which I love!

Yeah felt a little bitttersweet transitioning and making the adjustment to older Gwansik and Aesun's actors at first, but you'll quickly get used to them and love them 😊 and that's not the last we'll see their younger versions either~

43:30 Bro is being assaulted 😭

Fun fact, the girl that Geum Myung is tutoring is played by the little girl from Train to Busan

Podcast episode ig. You guys could do a double drop idk, just an idea 😀

LMAOO loving this podcast!!😭

I hope we get IU killing voice!!

Did anyone cry or tear up? I just need to know and imagine. Did McKay finally breakdown on camera that's why there's no video evidence bc Mckay? lol I haven't heard the reaction yet..

not me washing my dishes to this, rlly is an audiobook lmaoo

Park Bo-gum (Gwan-sik) is really close friends with V I’m pretty sure. IU (Ae-sun) has a music video with V and a song with SUGA. Just some info!

Hahah wait yall were serious 👀 so sorry

Yk what sitting here tryna picture your reactions is actually kinda fun 😌 I think from now on all your reactions should just be like this

bruh what is this...

iu made a song with v acting in it really good

Just hearing your voices is making me cackle

3:30 To Clarify IU is quite possibly the most loved Artist in Korea, just like BTS people don’t consider her a “Kpop Artist” because she’s just that big, Her songs are played literally everywhere in the country, The glaze might be to hot but going by how the general public in South Korea feels IU is Korea’s GOLDEN GIRL

this is so funny, its like watching a youtube commentary video

at least we got the audio, this feels like those extra dvd commentaries

Park Bo-gum (the actor who played Gwan-sik) is a close friend of V from BTS. IU did a collab with Suga of BTS. IU also has a music video starring BTS' V. And BTS' Jungkook is a huge fan of IU. He often auditioned using IU’s songs, and the first album he bought with his own money was IU’s album. He has also often said that IU is his ideal type.

Alright everyone close your eyes and imagine them naked while watching this 🤣 no Diddy

It's a new kinda podcast! The reactions are audio only x'D
