Alfie hiatus.

There are not going to be any new Alfie pages for the next couple of months. I am burnt out and I need to work on something different for a while. I am not entirely sure what yet, but I will figure it out. I intend to be very, very active in the next couple of months so don't worry. There will be content. BUT if you are pledging for Alfie, there will be nothing new for you for a while. Sorry.

The reason for the break is simple: Alfie takes a lot of energy and time to create and over time it drained me. In the past I remedied that with shorter breaks, or drawing a couple of silly porn pics on the side, but this time the burnout is too strong. Yesterday I sat down to draw the first pages of chapter 10 and I felt sick to my stomach. This feeling has been building for a while and I was hoping the break between chapters 9 and 10 would be enough to get my motivation back, but nope. I need time to recharge and a couple of weeks will not be enough this time.

I think the last proper break I had from Alfie was before I started drawing chapter 7, which was almost 2 years ago. Other than that there were breaks inbetween chapters that I spend writing and designing the story, and various times where I was unable to draw for one reason or another. But a proper "I want to do something else for a while" break was along time ago. Too long. Up till yesterday I was sure I will just power through this slump and force myself to work on chapter 10, but today I realised I can't do it. The quality of the comic will suffer if I do it.

This isn't one of those "I am tired of this comic so I'll drop it, call it a hiatus and hope everybody forgets about it" situations. I have the rest of Alfie planned out and I intend to finish it.

I honestly don't know how long this break will take. I think it's going to be a minimum of 2 months, but it could be longer. I want to spend it actively, working on other projects. I don't intend to be lazy. Aside from the Puazi CYOA, and the part 2 of the BI patreon comic I don't know what I'll do yet. Maybe one or two short comics? More CYOAs? Patron requests? Votes? All of that? I'll set up a separate patreon post so you guys could let me know what you'd like to see.

I hope this was not too rambling! Let me know what you think about all this.

So sorry to bother you again I just realized you had some links posted where I could find your work turns out I've seen a lot of your stuff before and I absolutely love everything that I've seen so I'm going to give you a support on here as well there was still hope your other page isn't dead

R
Riley Sassafras · February 28, 2018

Hello I hate to post here but I can't figure out another way to get ahold of you and I was wondering if you were still posting on your other patreon or if that one is dead now because I am in love with a stuff that I found already and was hoping to see some of that stuff finished. Are there other places where I could view your art that you have here? I only ask because I can't see most of the stuff here unless I become a patreon but I don't know if I want to become a patreon until I see what kind of stuff is posted here if that makes any sense.

I've just spent the day experiencing "Alfie" for the first time, from page one to the current pause. I've never experienced anything like it. What a wonderful break from reality! So many other things I should have done today. Reminded me of years ago being late with homework assignments because I spent all day reading "Lord of the Rings", only way more fun, and funny, and - you know - sexy! Had to take a couple of breaks to relieve the - tension (blush). So, take all the time you need to recharge. I hope to enjoy your creations for years to cum.

I'm really sorry to hear that! I hope that your break reinvigorates you to get back into the groove. I hate that burnout feeling, just got out of it myself a week ago. I know we have no previous rapport but if you're open to some ideas I have an interactive website little toolset I've made to make my interactive exploration site for my cartoon series. I'm always looking to give artists the means to make a cool little visual novel/point and click world out of the work. I invite you to check out what I made at: http://getrich.genomestudios.ca/ I would love to collaborate with you on making your own world in the same light. I also have had plans in the works to make a porny site with the same tools set in a University Campus. http://sxu.genomestudios.ca/ So doing something with your work would not be very farfetched!

I very much enjoy your Alfie comic and eagerly await every new page, but would hate to see it suffer from forcing yourself to do it if you don't feel up for it at the moment. I don't know much about your process, but I assume this kind of steady output is pretty demanding. Take all the time you need and come back when you feel ready. :)

I paint miniatures for games like D&D and warhammer 40k as a hobby..I'm good enough i get a fair bit of commission work. And on some of the larger jobs...you put that much effort into getting everything just right...all those little details..it gets exhausting. So yeah...when i complete an army of 50+ minis, I get pretty burned out and i take a break...then i go back once i'm ready....and usually after doing a couple of "just for fun" pieces for myself on my own timetable. You do great work...if a break is what you need to keep it up to your standards, more power to you.(and i look forward to those side projects too...wouldn't mind a few more journal entries form dr. lovingstone charting his/her transformation..always been a sucker for a good tf sequence.)

t
thisguyhere17 · October 18, 2017

Take care of yourself bro. I get it. It can become monotonous if you don't change it up. Alfie is awesome but we don't want you to burn out and stop all together. Do something else and maybe you'll get that fire again after a while.

J
Johnathan Mack · October 18, 2017

"YOU" always come first!!!! It's understandable to get burnt out every now and then, and I get the same way with designing. Sometimes you need to tackle something new for a while before the "man i really miss this" hits you, and you run back and the first page you start feels like the first page all over again. I really hope you have that happen to you, and find some time to just relax and enjoy what ever it is you like to do for fun!

a
ari a · October 18, 2017

Even in asshole America, it's expected to get a break every few weeks and a solid 2-week vacation at least every year, if not twice a year. Just because you're not salaried doesn't mean you don't deserve at least that. So take it! Please take care of yourself!

P

J

I have always admired your work ethic. Don't feel bad about needing a break. You have a loyal fan base who loves not just Alfie but all your work. Take time to refocus and rebuild your creativity. As someone who is attempting to create my own comics, I can relate. The end of the year (November/December) is the perfect time to take a break. Well as long as there is more sexy things it is all good. I like the characters in the comic and have seen some authors take characters in negative directions because they are forced to continue rather than allowed to rediscover their energy or passion for the project. I will say I wouldn't mind the occasional sexy short stack or Alfie/Vera art piece in addition to your more human proportioned lovelies.
