Andre is getting a face lift!

Apart from giving our beloved cutie-patootie a goth makeover, which will be accompanied by a short-side quest and new degeneracy content, we're also updating Andre's dialogue sprite!

Also, before we get any further, don't forget to check out Hanako's latest update! It ended up being one of the biggest ones we've made, and it truly has it all. Especially the spice. In fact, it's mostly spice and occasional wholesomeness — just the way you love 'em.

This isn't really a redesign per se, even if her new sprite might look different from the old one at first glance, and more of an attempt to bring it closer to the way Andre appears within the scenes. When we originally added Andre into the game, we kinda half-assed her existing dialogue sprite thinking that no one would care about some random confused girl. Turns out, we were wrong, and now we're attempting to make up for our lack of judgement.

The design is still work-in-progress, and we will continue making adjustments to make sure it stays as close as possible to how everyone remembers this sweet bun.

Her new sprite will be compatible with the layering system we've implemented last year, which would allow us to customize the clothes and makeup, add new facial expressions or gestures, and just generally simplifies the process of working with anything related to her dialogue sprites. That means we'll be able to give her goth outfit both within the spicy scenes, and outside of them too!

Also, in case you were wondering, her goth phase won't be permanent. She will only wear the new costume during her (repeatable) side-quest and during new sex scenes that are coming as part of this update. If people would want to see more of Goth Andre, we're open to the possibility of adding her new clothes as a skin to the existing scenes, or further expanding this dress-up questline. But it's too early to even think about that, so we'll host another poll after her gothic update goes public.

Not really necessary imo, like most I like the original better, it's more characterful because it's less "perfect", so less generic. I'd rather see updates on the X-ray so more characters can be x-rayed later in the game

personally fell like the new art fits better in the current style as the difference between the other characters felt jarring but i can understand if im in the minority

As many have already pointed out, the original feels more in line with her character. In the original she's anxious, leaning in to the main character. Her smile is less prominent and more nervous. She also has a significantly more boyish look, with the more angular face and flatter chest, which matches her character of: I am one of the boys, but I really want to be more of a girl (read: MC's girl). Finally, there is the slight change of her hair. In the original, it was bouncing up, as if she had just come rushing in, which fits her nervous personality. I understand that you want to match her more to the events. My suggestions would be: -> Make her default sprite lean into the MC, or alternatively, have her head dipped so she has to look up. This supports her shy, submissive charavter. -> Change her clothes so that they are just a size too large for her. This will give the illusion of a flatter chest (giving the original boyish look), and support the whole: she never really did put effort into her looks until MC shows up. -> Change the pose of her hands; currently it looks like she is praying. By parting them slightly or have them wrung together awkwardly, it can give that: 'I have no idea what I am doing and don't know where to put my hands' look. An alternative pose would be the classic 'having them clutched against the chest' shy look. -> And maybe think of fixing her hair? In the events her bang is to the right (see reference) whereas in the sprite it is to the left side of her face.

New sprite is great but there’s a real naïveté and a glimmer in her eyes in the old one I hope is brought forward

Honestly, I like her current sprite more. The new one seems more generic and less detailed, while the old one had the striking hair, and a more noticeable silhouette

Presuming I remember correctly and the right one is current and the left is the updated sprite, I personally prefer her as she is now. It feels less generic and less "perfect" than the newer one (which also fits with her character and charm too)

Noted, we'll tone down the "perfect-ness"!

Tbh would rather they change the scene art to match dialogue sprite, but that's many times more work 😅

That would take more time and resources than we are realistically able to spend, especially on a small update of original character. But try to adjust the new version to bring it closer to the imperfect look of the old one.

I must admit I really liked the original it felt like she was really human

Since a lot of people mentioned liking more natural/human-like feel of the original, we'll make some adjustments to the new version according to people's feedback. Expect to see another post regarding Andre's sprite changes in coming days!

Awww, i liked her original one

Anything in particular you liked about it more? We'd love to get as much feedback as possible before finalizing the design, so expect to see another post showcasing the edits we've made to the new sprite. Unfortunately, we had to update it one way or the other, because the original one is so old, it doesn't work with the new resolution we're going for, nor does it support the layering (which makes it impossible to add new expressions or change Andre's outfit without redrawing the whole thing).
