Consequential Fears Overview

MAKE FEARS MORE (AND LESS) ANNOYING

This is an overhaul of the useless fears system we already have in the game which makes fears meaningful and actual things to avoid like it was in The Sims 2. Before I explain what this mod does, let's take a look at how fears work in an unmodded game:

This sim here fears swimming but hey, the water's fine, who cares. -.-

Besides giving you a disappointingly small buff which can be easily overwritten, nothing else happens when fulfilling a fear in The Sims 4, sure, fears have other small effects like not autonomusly swim and quickly getting out of the pool/ocean if the player directs them to swim for fear of swimming, or having higher chances of setting the house on fire for sims that fear fire, but still, the consequences are very small and your sims are barely affected by them. Now let's take a look at how the fear of swimming works with my mod for younger sims first...and this is what happens for YA, Adults & Elders. As you can see I made sure that fears buffs are stronger compared to the vanilla ones since they were very weak, and I made those available in a separate optional package (I put it in both Consequential Fears and Buffs Rebalances).

Now I'm going to explain in detail what this mod does. A lot has changed since my very first post of Consequential Fears. I Initially thought of making custom confrontation TRUE FEARS whims to avoid, and removed all the Maxis confrontation whims because I didn't particularly like the way fears are being confronted, making getting rid of fears tied to the fear-b-gone potion only, but since this is a mechanic people like, I had to find other ways of fulfilling fears (since we only have 1 fear slot and it would have contained either the true fear to avoid and the confrontation goal, also, the sound of fulfilling a true fear whim would have been the same as the other ones since you can't change it) which I like waaay more!

Basically whenever a Sim gets a fear, that fear will ALWAYS be active until you get rid of it by confronting it or by using the potion, so you have to remember your sims fears and avoid them at all costs because they now have an impact!

All those fears are active, of course if you fulfill the fear of fire but your sim is already in Possessed/Dazed emotion because has fulfilled the fear of ghosts, you will not become Possessed/Dazed again.

THE TEDIOUS PART OF FEARS

Let's see what fears do when realized and let's start with Adult sims first. Adults will experience possession, they realized a fear and have lost their mind and these are the effects:

  • You will not be able to interact with anything besides sitting, talking weirdly to sims and "Go Here" (and all the other effects Possessed sims have).

  • their motives are fulfilled and locked but when the buff is gone they will go back to how they where before.

  • All positive buffs are removed and if you get a positive buff, that buff will decay much more fast.

  • They will start to gradually lose Satisfaction Points.

  • Sims around them will react in panic.

After the Possession they will become Dazed and besides the effects sims in the Dazed emotion have, the following effects happen:

  • Sims will lose 100 Influence Points (From Eco Lyfestyle).

  • All their motives will decay faster.

  • They will continue to gradually lose Satisfaction Points.

  • Positive buffs will continue to decay faster.

Children & Teens have similar effects but they will not become Possessed and have other effects specific to their ages:

  • They will lose 100 Influence Points.

  • All positive buffs are removed.

  • All positive buffs given will decay faster but not as fast as adults.

  • All their motives will decay faster but not as fast as adults.

  • They will gradually lose Satisfaction Points but they will lose less points than adults.

  • They will have emotional meltdowns (throwing tantrums or crying).

  • All their Character Values will gradually decrease (From Parenthood).

  • Children will lose Confidence (From Growing Togheter).

After the buffs, sims will go back to normal.

TIP: When a Sim becomes Dazed and you have a Confrontation whim, quickly confront that fear so you can stop the effects if you can!

MAKE YOUR SIMS ALMOST FEARLESS

Tired of constantly getting fears? Now you can make your sims almost fearless if your teens gained the High Self-Esteem trait when they were children. Besides giving you a very low chance of developing the fear of failure, homework, tests, classes, disappointing parents and failing after-school activities, I also included the fear of being judged, fear of being cheated on, fear of crowded places and fear of dead-end job.

Note: Beware, if your teens gained the Low Self-Esteem trait, they will have HIGHER chances of developing those fears.

For fears of fire, swimming, death, cowplant, ghosts and the dark, you can purchase the Brave trait from the reward store or gain the Adrenaline Seeker Lifestyle (from Snowy Escape) so your chances to develop those fears become extremely low, also, Brave sims will NEVER develop the fear of ghosts and fear of the dark.

Note: Beware, if your sims have the Paranoid or Squeamish traits you will not be able to purchase the Brave trait but you can still gain the Adrenaline Seeker lifestyle!

I have updated those trait descriptions so you will know.

By combining these 2 traits togheter, your sims can become almost fearless and will most of the time stay in a Confident mood.

NEW GOALS & GOAL FULFILLMENT

Your sim has the fear of being cheated on and you see that it has the confrontation whim to talk about relationship fears with his partner, your sims partner then cheats on them right in front of their face but they still want to talk about relationship fears with their partner...which just....cheated straight to their face. -.-

For this idiocy I have created new confrontation goals (only 2 for now) and made so that every time your sims goes into Possessed/Dazed mood, their confrontation whims gets refreshed so you get a chance of having a more appropriate whim, a whim of another fear, or nothing at all!

Pablo cheated on Jennifer and now she wants to confront him by breaking-up their marriage!

Finally, you can ask yourself: "How can I fulfill the confrontation goal of fear of fire if my sim goes into the Possessed/Dazed emotion when a fire starts?", don't worry, I made sure to blacklist those emotions ONLY if the confrontation goal is shown in the UI for certain fears, or, for example, for the fear of swimming, cowplant and the dark, I have blacklisted the Confident emotion so you can complete those goals and don't become Possessed/Dazed when in that mood, also, the weight of the Dazed emotion is +50, so, if you want to quickly confront the fear of swimming you must buy the Confident emotional potion from the rewards store!

IMPORTANT: This mod uses features across a variety of packs, so, StrangerVille, Growing Togheter, Parenthood, Eco Lifestyle, Snowy Escape, High School Years & Get to Work are needed, StrangerVille in particular.
