Accelerate Player Development (v2) [WIP]

Overview

Accelerate Player Development v2 is a modular player development framework designed to enhance and control monthly training progression in Football Manager.

This system:

  • Intercepts monthly Training Points

  • Applies configurable multipliers

  • Controls how those points are distributed across attributes

  • Preserves Football Manager’s natural development mechanics

  • Respects the CA/PA structure

  • Remains fully deterministic (no hidden randomness)

APD v2 is not a simple multiplier utility.

It is a structured progression framework built to guide and enhance player development while maintaining the integrity of Football Manager’s internal systems.

This system does not:

  • Instantly maximise attributes (unless explicitly configured)

  • Bypass CA/PA limitations

  • Override the FM engine entirely (unless explicitly configured)

Instead, it is designed to:

  • Direct growth intelligently

  • Accelerate development in a controlled manner

  • Preserve engine balance

  • Provide meaningful and configurable progression control

APD v2 functions as an advanced development preset system, not a one-click attribute maximiser.

The system operates through a Scope-Based Configuration Model.

Scope System (Items List)

Each entry in the Items List represents a target scope.

Supported Scope Types:

  • Team

  • Nation

  • Competition

  • Continent

  • Person

Example:

FC Nürnberg (Team)

This means the configuration applies only to players within that team.

Filters

Each scope may include optional filters:

  • Player Max Age Filter

  • Player Position Filter

  • Player Position's Familiarity Filter

Examples:

  • Apply only to Midfielders

  • Apply only to Natural Position

  • Apply only to players under 23

This allows highly granular targeting.

Development Mode

Each scope may use one of two modes:

  • Standard

  • Advanced

STANDARD MODE (Recommended)

Standard Mode is designed for users who want effective development control without complex configuration.

Development Phase Control

Automatic (Seasonal Rotation)

Development phases rotate automatically based on the selected seasonal calendar.

Season Calendar Type:

  • July – May (European Season)

    • Pre-season / Early Season (Jul – Sep)
      → Physical Emphasis

    • Mid Season (Oct – Jan)
      → Technical Emphasis

    • Late Season (Feb – May)
      → Mental Emphasis

  • January – December (Calendar Year Season)

    • Early Season (Jan – Mar)
      → Physical Emphasis

    • Mid Season (Apr – Aug)
      → Technical Emphasis

    • Late Season (Sep – Dec)
      → Mental Emphasis

Manual (Fixed Phase)

You may select one permanent development emphasis:

  • Physical Emphasis

  • Technical Emphasis

  • Mental Emphasis

How Standard Mode Works

In Standard Mode:

  • Monthly Training Points are multiplied by the Global Training Multiplier

  • Points are evenly distributed across the selected phase attribute group

  • Soft Cap remains active

  • The FM engine retains natural development logic

Standard Mode is stable, predictable, and balanced.

ADVANCED MODE (Full Control)

Advanced Mode provides complete control over development behaviour.

  1. Training Points Multiplier Mode

Controls how Training Points are amplified.

    Available options:

    • Age Curve (Automatic)

    • Flat Multiplier

    • Age + Flat Multiplier

This determines how aggressively growth scales.

    Age Curve (Automatic)

Age Curve dynamically adjusts the multiplier based on the player’s age.

Younger players receive a higher development multiplier.
Older players receive a reduced multiplier.

This creates a more natural progression model that mirrors real-life player development curves.

    Concept

    Final Multiplier = Age-Based Multiplier

    • 16–18 → 1.50x

    • 19–21 → 1.30x

    • 22–24 → 1.15x

    • 25–27 → 1.00x

    • 28–30 → 0.85x

    • 31+ → 0.70x

    Example

    If a 17-year-old player receives:

    Monthly Training Points = 120
    Age Multiplier = 1.50

    Then:

    120 × 1.50 = 180 effective Training Points

This results in faster development during early career stages.

    Flat Multiplier

Flat Multiplier using Global Training Points Multiplier value applies a constant value to all players, regardless of age.

This is the simplest scaling method.

    Concept

Final Multiplier = Flat Multiplier (Global Training Points Multiplier)

    Example

    If:

    Monthly Training Points = 120
    Flat Multiplier = 1.25

    Then:

    120 × 1.25 = 150 effective Training Points

All players develop at the same relative acceleration.

    This mode is ideal for:

    • Sandbox saves

    • League-wide development boosts

    • Controlled but uniform progression

    Age + Flat Multiplier

    This combines both systems.

The Age Curve multiplier is applied first, then multiplied again by the Flat value.

    Concept

Final Multiplier = Age Multiplier × Flat Multiplier

    Example

    Player age: 18
    Age Multiplier: 1.50
    Flat Multiplier: 1.20
    Monthly Training Points: 120

Step 1 – Apply Age Curve:

    120 × 1.50 = 180

Step 2 – Apply Flat Multiplier:

    180 × 1.20 = 216

    Final effective Training Points:

    216

    This mode creates:

    • Very strong youth acceleration

    • Controlled global scaling

    • Maximum configurability

    Choosing the Right Mode

    • Age Curve → Realistic career progression

    • Flat → Uniform development boost

    • Age + Flat → High-control, youth-focused saves

    Important Notes

    • Multipliers affect Training Points only, not CA/PA limits.

    • Soft Cap still applies.

    • FM’s internal progression slowdown remains intact.

    • Extremely high values may result in accelerated but still capped development.

  2. Training Points Distribution Mode

Controls how much of the intercepted Training Points override the engine.

    Options:

    • Automatic (Engine Only – 100%)

    • Assisted (Soft Focus)

    • Hard Focus

    • Full Override

    Explanation:

    • Engine Only → FM distributes 100% naturally

    • Assisted → Partial override

    • Hard Focus → Majority override

    • Full Override → Full manual control

  3. Attribute Focus Mode

Determines where Training Points are directed.

    Options:

    • Automatic (Position-Based LUT)

    • Preset (Role / Attribute Group)

    • Custom (Manual Attribute Selection)

  4. Attribute Focus Mode - Manual (Custom Attributes)

You may manually define up to 8 attributes.

    Each attribute includes:

    • Attribute Selection

    • Weight (0.0 – 1.0)

    Weight System Rules

    • Total weight is automatically normalised to 1.0

    • If all weights are empty → equal distribution

    • If partially filled → remaining weight is auto-completed

    • Duplicate attributes → merged automatically

    • Invalid or negative values → ignored

    • Internal precision remains high (UI displays rounded values)

This ensures stability and prevents configuration errors.

Hidden System Rules (Always Active)

The following systems are permanently active:

  • Soft Cap

    High attributes receive diminishing returns.
    Prevents unrealistic “all 20” growth.

  • Native FM Slowdown

Football Manager’s internal CA/PA slowdown remains intact.

  • Injury Dampener

    • Active injury → development multiplier reduced

    • High injury proneness → slight development reduction

No hidden randomness.
No artificial spikes.
No deceptive multipliers.

The system is deterministic.

Scope Priority Resolution

If a player matches multiple scopes:

Priority order:

  1. Person

  2. Team

  3. Competition

  4. Nation

  5. Continent

  6. Global

The highest priority scope overrides others.

No stacking.
No ambiguity.

Preset Bundles

Users can:

  • Save Preset Bundles

  • Load Preset Bundles

  • Export / Import Items

Preset Bundles include:

  • Global Configuration

  • Scope Entries

  • Custom Attribute LUT Profiles

This allows sharing and backup of configurations.

Design Philosophy

APD v2 is built on five principles:

  1. Respect the FM engine

  2. Preserve CA/PA integrity

  3. Avoid random behaviour

  4. Maintain deterministic outcomes

  5. Separate logic (Lua) from execution (ASM)

It enhances development, it does not replace the engine.

Recommended Usage

If you are new:

→ Use Standard Mode + Automatic Phase

If you want tactical influence:

→ Use Advanced Mode + Position-Based Focus

If you want precise attribute shaping:

→ Use Custom Attribute LUT

Technical Deep Dive (For Power Users)

Monthly Development Flow

At the end of each training cycle, Football Manager generates monthly Training Points for each player.

APD v2 intercepts this value and applies the following pipeline:

Base Training Points
→ Multiplier Resolution (Global + Scope)
→ Mode Resolution (Standard / Advanced)
→ Distribution Logic
→ Soft Cap Application
→ Remainder Returned to Engine
→ Final Attribute Growth

The system never directly modifies CA or PA.

It operates strictly on Training Points before attribute allocation.

Multiplier Resolution

Final multiplier is calculated based on:

  • Development Mode

  • Multiplier Mode (Age / Flat / Age+Flat)

  • Global Multiplier

  • Scope Overrides (if present)

  • Injury Dampener (if applicable)

All scaling happens before distribution.

Distribution Logic

Depending on configuration:

  • Engine Only

100% of Training Points are returned to FM’s native distribution system.

  • Assisted / Hard / Full Override

A configurable portion of Training Points is redirected according to:

    • Position-Based LUT

    • Preset LUT

    • Custom LUT

Remaining points (if any) return to the engine.

Weight Normalisation (Custom LUT)

Weights are stored as float values between 0.0 and 1.0.

Rules:

  • Total weight automatically normalised to 1.0

  • Empty weights → equal distribution

  • Partial weights → remainder auto-filled

  • Duplicate attributes → merged

  • Invalid values → clamped

Internal precision is preserved even if UI displays rounded values.

Soft Cap Behaviour

Soft Cap applies diminishing scaling when an attribute reaches high values.

Example conceptual behaviour:

If Attribute < 15 → Full effect
15–17 → Reduced effect
18+ → Strongly reduced effect

This prevents unrealistic full-stat stacking while preserving accelerated growth.

Balancing Guide (Recommended Multiplier Values)

These values are recommended for stable gameplay.

🟢 Realistic Career Mode

Multiplier Mode: Age Curve

Expected Result:

  • Youth develop faster

  • Veterans remain stable

  • Realistic progression curve

🟡 Enhanced Development Mode

Multiplier Mode: Age + Flat
Flat Multiplier: 1.15 – 1.30

Expected Result:

  • Noticeable acceleration

  • Balanced long-term saves

  • Youth academy feels impactful

🔵 Competitive Save Boost

Multiplier Mode: Age + Flat
Flat Multiplier: 1.30 – 1.50
Distribution: Assisted or Hard Focus

Expected Result:

  • Strong youth growth

  • Tactical attribute shaping

  • Still PA-limited

🔴 High Acceleration Sandbox

Multiplier Mode: Flat
Flat Multiplier: 1.75 – 2.50
Distribution: Full Override

Expected Result:

  • Rapid growth

  • Less realism

  • For experimental saves

Recommended Safe Range

For long-term career stability:

Final Effective Multiplier Range: 1.0 – 1.8

Values above 2.0 may produce accelerated saturation of PA ceilings.

Final Note for Power Users

APD v2 is designed to be:

  • Scalable

  • Deterministic

  • Engine-aware

  • Configurable without instability

Proper multiplier tuning is more important than extreme values.

Balanced configuration will always produce better long-term results than maximum acceleration.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Does APD v2 change PA or CA?

No.
APD v2 does not modify Potential Ability or Current Ability directly.
It scales Training Points only.

Q: Can this break player balance?

When used within recommended multiplier ranges, no.

Extreme multiplier values may accelerate progression significantly, but PA and Soft Cap still limit growth.

Q: Why isn’t my 30-year-old player developing much?

Likely causes:

  • Age Curve reduces multiplier for older players

  • Soft Cap limits high attributes

  • Injury Dampener may be active

Older players are intentionally less responsive to acceleration.

Q: Why are attributes not reaching 20?

Because:

  • Soft Cap reduces high-value growth

  • FM’s internal CA/PA ceiling still applies

  • Growth is scaled, not forced

APD v2 accelerates development — it does not remove limits.

Q: Can I make youth players develop extremely fast?

Yes, using:

  • Age + Flat multiplier

  • Hard or Full Override

  • Custom LUT

However, extreme values may impact long-term balance.

Q: Does Full Override ignore FM completely?

No.

Full Override redirects Training Points distribution, but:

  • PA ceiling still applies

  • Soft Cap still applies

  • Engine growth logic still runs

Q: Why do injured players grow slower?

APD v2 includes an Injury Dampener:

  • Active injury reduces effective multiplier

  • High injury proneness slightly reduces scaling

This preserves realism.

I have a few questions about using the APD v2 system in your latest table. My goal is to achieve 2x faster development for all players worldwide, similar to how the "Progress Rate" worked in previous versions.
