I think there's genuinely no other show like this that has the same focus on exploration and mystery of an unknown world, at least not for a prolonged amount of time. Most stories reveal too much too quickly and lose a lot of suspense after a while, or they have very disappointing reveals. What makes Made in Abyss truly special is that the author is attempting to convey profound and difficult to describe concepts of the human condition. Longing, Value, Wanderlust. Why climb that mountain, why explore that cave, why dive into the ocean? Where is the limit in trying to reach your goal, or is there even one to begin with? All of that is what makes this story feel so fascinating.
the only thing similar to made in abyss is the dark souls franchise i believe , even though it matches with dark vibe and mystery i think dark souls world does fail in the beauty aspect of it where as made in abyss excels in it.
After the first season, you only need to watch the third film, Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul. The first two are just recaps.
I love the mystery of the abyss and the exploration of it all but this show is so damn heart-wrenching.
Bankai
in the episode 2 they explained the physical toll of returning from different layers: first layer: mild dizziness second layer: nausea, headaches, and numbness of extremities fourth layer: intense pain throughout the body and bleeding sixth layer and beyond: the loss of your humanity or even death so yeah, hollows are humans who went beyond the sixth layer and when they tried to head back, survived the curse but their bodies got deformed
This anime so creepy, it leaves you with a weird feeling afterward
Finally... Welcome to the Abyss. It's Magnificent that you've made it here.
