Noa & Una’s Marginalia 📜 Tasty Treats
🍰When you want to reward yourself, what kind of treat comes to mind first? A big chunky cookie, a cake looks as good as it tastes, or a luxurious, exotic dessert? Since we’ve talked about everyday meals and meals eaten during fasts, let’s talk about some tasty treats this time!
🍪In the Middle Ages, there were many different kinds of delicious treats. Roasting chestnuts, oat and honey biscuits, wafers, crêpes… People from different social classes enjoyed different kinds of snacks. Pies are loved by common folks and nobles. Although the fillings varied according to social class, the pleasure of a delicious pie could make everyone’s face light up with joy. Sometimes, treats like these were more than just a pleasure; they could also provide a quick source of warmth and nourishment.
🥧One of the most popular treats in Ordo Mediare is Heidenische küchen! It’s actually more like a meat pie than a cake. Lady Titania shared this recipe with us during her visit. Its rich filling is packed with vegetables, eggs, meat, and apples. Add pepper from the East, put the filling in a pie crust, and bake it… Ah, the aroma is absolutely mouthwatering! I can totally understand why some of the sisters want to sneak a bite. Still, rules are rules. Anyone caught sneaking a bite will be assigned extra duties!

wouldn't it be strange to for the nuns to have peppers on a frequent basis? Considering it's a luxury item at the time?
I hate it to be the german gut, but heathen caks would be "Heidenkuchen" or "heidnische Kuchen".
I think this deserves an "Om-nom-nom-nom-nom!" Sounds like a great recipe!
Tart never learns..........
