Placeholderette's Dungeon - (Tales of Faenia mechanics / Proof of concept)
So I will pick Trixie back up in a bit, everybody! Don't worry, it's not like I've forgotten or anything, she's on the works.
I just got a bit burnt out and figured... What better way to recover my focus than to switch to working on developing the potential game mechanics of one of my two big game projects for a bit (the other one being The Original Sin's Raising Sim project, of course. I alternate between developement projects as to not to burn myself out).
The idea is to basically make a fully working (albeit just composed of placeholders and very rough-looking) RPG combat system with all the game-mechanics and details sorted out (i.e: levelling, character selection, inventory management, etc) as a modular project to later let y'all play with and get a feel for, because if I can get this system done, then developing the rest of Tales of Faenia will basically just amount to making the graphic assets (the art & animations) and writting the story.
Of course, that would take a ton of time on it's own, but it wouldn't be a question of "if" but "when", at that point.
I'm liking the baseline idea as seen here so far, but what do you think?
Fate out!!!

Looks very round already 馃構
Still looking forward to 'playing with and getting a feel of' the Placeholderettes, gaddamn. All seriousness it has a lot of negative space particularly along the top, which could be used for anything so desired. A different stat tracker? Important items to have a hotkey for? Or maybe a dialogue box to describe the recent action or let the characters speak?
Yeah, the details of the all the trackers and little widgets I'm sure will be required are still on the works. I wanna get a feel for how the basics of the game work so I can later determine what should be highlighted and where. Trying to not make assets (even if placeholders) I'm not sure I wanna use yet. It's unavoidable to make some, of course, but trying to minimize wasted work, basically.
Nice update ! keep it up !
anything you make i will support, your content got and still gets many nuts out this aging Mexican ass body. no homo but besides creeping your ass out add a necromancer girl, of course she has to be gothic!!
Are you making a darkest dungeon Renaissance game? Cause I don't know whether to be hyped or scared now XD
The starting point "is" heavily based on Darkest Dungeon as the framework, yeah. Not planning on making it as unforgiving and survival-based as DD though, it's mostly just because DD has a pretty striaghtforward and not overly-micromanage-y design, game-mechanics-wise, with a nice aesthetic concept that lends itself well for narration. The "RPG" elements on Tales of Faenia are intended to be engaging and fun, but not "the" focus of the game. That would be the story's job. The combat/RPG elements serve as a way to invest the player in the narrative events, so it's almost an alternative narrative device, so to speak. TL;DR: Darkest Dungeon with not so much stress and narration/story-driven. And more booba, of course.
Oh would love another game in your art style
