The mere-exposure effect
is a psychological phenomenon where people tend to develop a preference for things or individuals simply because they are familiar with them.
Under this cognitive bias, repeated exposure to a person increases our perception of their likability and attractiveness compared to someone unfamiliar. Greater familiarity reduces uncertainty and fosters a baseline sense of safety, directly influencing social evaluation and interpersonal preference.
