MAILBAG!
Hey everyone, on our next episode we’ll be sitting down with a union member and rep to talk about UNIONS baby, and why they kick ass.
Please give us any and all questions that you have about unions, what they do, who they’re for, why you should join or any kind of reservations you may have about them.
ADDITIONALLY: Ben and Andrew are going to have a fireside chat about gratuitously violent 80s movies for an upcoming bonus episode, let us know what your favourites are!

Should we canonize TimeCop as an 80s movie? Seems like we should. Thanks. Oh also should Boonta Vista be a union? Please let this question tear you apart. Rob (Patron)
Hello. I have noticed that David Feeney was the member for Batman and this is spelt exactly like Batman. Have any of you noticed this too? Does this produce any hilarious insights or ironies? And which Batman is Van Badham referring to when she says he's the perfect distillation of Batman?
As for Unions: even when my union eviscerated an EB agreement that was trying to quietly stuff the workforce in our company we still couldn't get people to sign up. Getting people to care about the union was the biggest hurdle. How do we turn that around?
... Rollerblade, Exterminators of the Year 3000 and 70s honourable mention to Bloodsucking Freaks.
member when toney took a big ol bite outta dem onion? ha! Oh wait. uuuunion. I get it now.
What are the best ways to destroy and replace corporate-friendly anti-member "unions" like the SDA? They have a huge stranglehold in their sector (to the point that places like Coles and Woolies bring them in to get kids signed up), and their corruption then sours unions for generations of new workers. How do we (either as a member of that industry, or not as one) fight it?
Pls ask the union man how to unfuck the IR system. Specifically, what changes need to be made to the federal Act; how can unions and unionists (and workers and voters generally) pressure Labor to commit to making those changes; what role do the Greens have in making this happen?
As for unionism: since leaving my trade and becoming a comfy back office logistics and ops guy I’ve let my union involvement slide. I don’t really even know which union’s jurisdiction I fall under; how do I find out?
While I think of it: we’re forever hearing about corrupt union bosses (related: demonisation of Joe McDonald although I mean he does seem like kind of a dick). How much of that is true, how much is beat-up, and what do the various unions do to avoid (real and/or perceived) corruption?
Violent 80s movies? Flesh and Blood, STar Crystal, Xtro, Surf Nazis Must Die, The Raiders of Atlantis. brb
Re violent 80s movies, I have a deeply tender spot for Commando, especially for the soundtrack which gleefully abuses the Caribbean steel drums - a motif wholeheartedly stolen by Carpenter Brut in their track Paradise Warfare
I have no questions but fuck yeah. Get amongst it. Please plug RAFFWU and AUWU too, if you get a chance. Neither are "endorsed" unions because of how fucked our IR laws are, but they do phenomenal work.
