Patreon changes

Hey folks,

As I'm sure we all seen by now, Patreon have made changes to their payment model. I'm too dumb to explain it properly, but you can read all about it all over the place.

I've seen other people who use Patreon offering to change their tier structures, but we've only got the one ($5USD). This will go up by like, 75 cents-ish I think? I'm not the numbers guy, I should get Theo to tell me.

Anyways, I'm writing to see if our listeners have any strong feelings about it. We've already had a significant number of people unsubscribe from the show in the wake of the announcement, and of course we don't blame anyone for doing so. It's your money and you should do what you want with it (or maybe the changes have squeezed your wallet just a little too hard and we understand that too).

Please pound off in the comments and let us know how you feel or if you have any suggestions for changes we could or should make.

Peace and love from up above,
Andrew

If I had a few dozen $1 pledges I'd reassess but since I only pledge to a handful of people it's no real sweat off my back. By Patreon's own admission I think they're trying to weed out smaller-scale profiles

I've had to drop a few pledges. But, I'm only dropping them from people who've offered other options like donating directly to their Paypal or Ko-Fi or whatever - I'd rather do that, then I know that they're getting all of the money I send. The crappy thing is, that means that it's kinda hard to do donator-only content through those.

I'll stick around at the new price, I'll keep my eyes peeled in case if you end up moving elsewhere

Some calculations from someone avoiding work. Assuming $5 donation and 5% transaction fees in the "Old" method. All figures are $US: To keep BVSC in the manner which they have become accustomed: Pledge $4.74 Pay $5.24 BVSC get $4.5 To stick it to the content creators and look after yourself: Pledge $4.52 Pay $5 BVSC get $4.29 The "I didn't read anything, why am I broke" option (no change): Pledge $5 Pay $5.50 BVSC get $4.75

The changes have meant that I'm forced to drop one of my pledges. Fortunately for you, it isn't Boonta. But even small price increases add up when you have a few pledges and you don't earn much UNFUCK YOURSELF PATREON

As long as you still receive 6.90 I am absolutely fine with any changes.

I'm not gonna quit paying you guys but now that I know Patreon is a Pomplamoose side project I hope there's a better system we can all switch to soon

It's a dumbass move by patreon but I'm sticking with you. Maybe keep an eye on PayPal and drop, they'd be bloody loving this

It won’t make me unsubscribe but it will probably put more of a cap on how many creators I support. You guys are awesome. Never change. Peace. We’ll all see each other again in thug’s manision.

I'd stay on at $5.75 USD. I'd also move to another platform if it worked out better for you. I don't know if this sounds cheap but I probably wouldn't go much higher than that - if you decide to increase the dollar amount more than the ~75c I think you should create a second tier.

i have strong feelings but so far i’m only expressing them in the form of cussing at jack conte on twitter

It is indeed bullshit, but I'm happy for you folks to stick with Patreon unless/until something better comes along. (Apparently https://d.rip is Kickstarter's version of Patreon that they're rolling out at the moment).

I love you all but please stop trying to understand numbers, it upsets me to see your brows rumple in confusion, leave it to the professionals
