1. This is why they made Lemon a counselor. The combination of complete good will and complete goofiness will get through when almost nothing else will. 2. A theory: At some point, Jeph began unconsciously basing most new characters on dogs he meets while walking his dog. This now accounts for a large part of the strip's appeal.
Why does 2 sound terrifyingly plausible? Oo
My office-mate knows how to do this for me... He makes fart noises til I laugh.
THANK YOU for Roko's *snrk*. I was dreading this plotline as I saw it coming. Extremely relatable, and happy to have confirmation that silly shit can still cause momentary positive reactions.
Yay! Melon is being toetally helpful!
🍈🦶🇹🇼😂
woot! Taiwan represent!
Any minute now in comes Elliot with the basket of fresh bread. Aaany minute... Although it may lead to some typical Elliot complications: "Wow, how did you manage to make the dough so light?" "My secret is that I'm really good with kneading it. One second it's a nice round blob, and next - wham! - it's flat and thin like a wafer".
Melon would probably get along pretty well with a depressed nuclear reactor, just saying.
Hannelore - we need you!
Oh Roko 😕 oh Melon 🤗 girl you trying, and that's good. Never give up trying, even if Roko tells you to go away. Go away and then come back. You just gotta keep on coming back. I ♥️ 🍈 ♥️♥️
Melon’s hair sproing in panel 4. ❤️
I can't believe that worked!
The socially appropriate greeting here would be all the hugs.
I have a friend who lives in Taiwan, I bet she'd let them stay for a bit. They like dogs, right? Because my friend has approximately all the dogs.
Are they floofly dogs or pointy dogs though?
Good work Melon, you got her to *snrk*.
Does this ordeal count as an out of body experience?
Wouldn’t be a bad idea to go elsewhere for a while. I’m acquainted with a woman whom lost her husband to cancer and decided to just move to South Korea at the beginning of this year. I could see how Roko could have as close to an AI experience death and every depression that comes with survival. Travel can be very good medicine.
Notice the BodyHub cactus on the table?
Aww Melon is helping! <3
During one of my deepest bouts of depression, I found myself essentially disassociated. I couldn't move, and I couldn't speak. My then-pa spent 20 or 30 minutes trying to find a way to reach me, and I just couldn't reach back out. Then she put a pair of my boxer shorts on my head. I chuckled, then laughed, and it was enough to get me out of that loop, at least for a little while. I'm glad to I know that, at least on some level, I share that kind of experience with others.
Thanks for sharing that; hope you're feeling better
This is unbelievably cute.
In the Navy, we called it "Taiwanon". So I first read the last panel as: "Roko we have to go to Taiwanon"
I love you, Jeff Jacques! :)
This strip is a masterclass in perfect comedy timing.
I'm surprised that Melon knows her left from her right.
That's what's written on top.
This is so sweet and I love it
Made her laugh thats a great start :)
Poor Roko
It's Memento, but starring Melon instead of Guy Pierce. Melmento. Melonmento. Memelon?
Melonmentos & Coke?? that's the recipe for the volcano ...
Quick! To the MelonCopter!
where's Hanners?? I hear she knows space stations & orbital bombardment platforms & such like.
Poor Roko :(
I guess it’s vacation time!
Sometimes, deep psychological trauma is best treated with the absurd
.... Personally I start telling really dark and twisted "silver lining" jokes....
Well, it’s a start?
Awwww
And that's exactly how depression looks
