Major Patch Notes
Spell slot system has been changed to be simpler and more restricting, and as such, the previous chapter has been edited with the new information. I'll put the new section below, but here's a cliff notes summary:
1. MGs start with 70 spell slots, gain 10 more every 100 main levels.
2. Spells all take one spell slot now no matter the tier.
3. Certain Skills can increase the number of spell slots.
4. Spells in active slots can be changed at any time, but the change only goes through at midnight UTC (2:00pm in Arcadia)
New Version of spell slot description:
[Hmm. Two things. First is that while you can purchase an unlimited number of spells, you can only have a set amount of “active” spells. You start with seventy spell slots and gain ten more every hundredth level. If you have more purchased spells than active slots, you can change which ones are considered active at any time, but the change will only take place at midnight UTC, which is two in the afternoon here in Arcadia. Finally, the lesser, adept, and greater versions of a spell all share the same spell slot instead of each taking one individually. This lets a Guardian keep quite the repertoire of spells available to them without needing to worry too much about their choices.
Taking in all of that information I slowly nodded.
“What about tiers? Do higher tier spells take up more slots?”
[No. There are also a few passive Skills you can take to increase the number of spell slots you have, but those Augments are usually only chosen by MGs who focus on casting. Still, having a large variety of spells to handle any situation can be a large factor in survivability and effectiveness so long as you are not consumed by choice paralysis.]
I nodded in agreement. Seventy slots already seemed like a lot, but once I considered all the different types of situations I might face, I had a feeling that number was going to start feeling a lot smaller.
Old Version of spell slot description:

Upon reaching level 100 and unlocking tier two, you gain two spell slots until you reach tier three. The pattern repeats, the number of active spell slots you gain increasing with each tier. Spells themselves take up a number of slots equal to the tier they were purchased at. For example, a spell purchased from a tier two Grimoire takes two slots, a tier three uses three, and so on.]
Taking in all that information, I slowly nodded.
“So right now, at level twelve, I have twelve spell slots? That means I could learn twelve spells seeing as I can’t buy a higher tier Grimoire yet?”
[You can have twelve spells to actively use, yes. I don't do requested shout outs, but occasionally I stumble upon something that I'm enjoying and want to share how awesome it is. TFTC. Very cool and strong new abilities and I like the new system for slots. I do wonder, and let me preface by saying I am not pushing for it to happen soon, when Mai will leave the Stage of denial and be able to see and understand how abnormal her situation has been and just how bad her dad was. As someone who went through very similar when I was a kid and I know how hard it can be and how much compartmentalizing can be to stay positive and sane while it happens. I fully get that she is only getting better very recently so it may take her a bit to see her past in a different life, it's been a fair amount of time for us but for her it's been the blink of an eye really.
I saw the notification a new chapter was available and got all excited. Mai's signature + grimoire + bullets are gonna be an insane armor piercing combo. Take care, and thank you!

Hey girl, I just wanted to say I'm proud of you. I struggle a lot myself with wanting to write and just being able to. It's follow-through for me, mostly adhd-induced, but weighs on me a lot - has for a decade now. You are succeeding, and have been for years at this point. You are creating something that makes people feel things. I think that's really impressive. So, like I said. Proud of you. Thank you so much for the chapter! Welcome back! First off, absolutely amazing kudos for the wordplay of kodoku! I loved seeing how that both revealed so much about Mai, while also playing into her Signature and Grimoire. I'm flabberghasted you managed to make a wordplay in another language, that's amazing! Reading about the recording was hard, but it put a lot of things into context. I'm curious as to what was going on with Katie with her reactions to throwing up after eating and her silence after seeing Mai's body. It's also helpful to understand how Error Machina must have felt watching that and makes me want to re-read that scene. Talking to the Shadow was a delight. Seeing reflections of her innermost thoughts and feelings and actually talking to her was great. Also the giant eclipse/lunar imagery with her thorny magic was so crisp, it helped paint the scene!
