You guys like shrimp?
A buddy of mine used to be a paparazzo for TMZ where he worked with none other than the guy who played Tanner as a kid.
Watching the movie right now, and I have to admit it, Stanger is right. Joyce Van Patten is strangely hot in this.
So Matthau throws beer at O’Neal. Thought I remembered this movie but this bit surprised me! Seemed like Rog blocked this out, said she threw water at him. Did we all block this one out? https://youtu.be/Oc2xTMnIwrI?is=43gRswwtSxB5shJQ
I suspect all 3 of you are sleeper agents. Love the podcast ♥️
I’m tempted to tell the story about how James Gunn almost got me fired from the show Scream Queens because he knew he was on a dumb show and he was hot but I’m lazy and no one really cares about bad side burns from 2008.
The Action Boyz should sponsor a kids team. Other podcasts should join in. Fuck fantasy leagues, this is the future of sport.
Saw it in theatre with my parents during original release. Can testify that it entertained equally two boys under 10 and two adults in their 40’s. At the time also worked for me as anthropological study of kid world and a bracing introduction to the politics of adulthood.
Dont sleep on part 2. Let them play!
Stanger, and Gabrus sounded stunned that Rodgers defended Morrow being too into the outcome of a Little League game. He’s right though. It’s always good to see people enthusiastic about outdoor activities. Especially when you’re looking at it with 2026 eyes and not eyes of 1976.
Stanger’s sarcasm about the SpaceBalls sequel bummed me out a little. He’s right to be skeptical about another legacy sequel, but we should all be rooting for more big budget comedy movies.
George Wyner is alive and well and will be in Space Balls 2.
Joyce Van Patten’s brother is Dick Van Patten (RIP) who played King Roland. 0/10 found this interesting
Gabrus goes "my dad was disgusted when he saw me get choked out so hard I cried" and the other 2 are just giggling haha. Trauma!
Pathmark and King Kullen mentioned
People get annoyed by product placement in film, but I guess it was a thing 50 years ago. They all briefly eat at a McDonald’s for no apparent reason and at one point, the fat kid just eats a bucket of KFC at the ballet studio.
Pizza Hut scene lives rent free in head, love an old school pizza parlour
I had the Fisher Price Foosball table. It was set up at all my apartments while as at VCU. It was a fun item for drunk & stoned college kids.
Yknow ghost rider is gonna be wearing a cool ass jacket
I loved the Ghost Rider jacket Nick Cage wore in “United 93.”
When I was little, I had such a crush on bad boy Jackie Earle Haley 🚬 💛 I would grow up to date many a sociopath, don’t recommend
Was really excited when Stanger brought up The Ringer and thought we’d get Ben’s Simmons impression. But he really just blew past it.
The Miller crossing episode is an all timer for this
Not sure I agree with Rodgers about the travel sports thing. My wife was on travel basketball and volleyball teams growing up, was an Indiana basketball HOFer and played at Notre Dame. And she doesn't push our kids to play sports, nor does she go overboard on the electronics use. We try to find healthy balances. We ended up getting our indoorsy gamer kid into archery so that's how we get them outside a bit every day.
Cannot wait to listen. One of the most shocking fun awesome movie I saw as a child in the 70s 👍👏👏👏
Yall ready for this 1/2 of a 4 hour podcast?
Carvel cookie cake > X
I loved the performance of the Yankees Coach. He was such an ass but seemed like a real guy and also someone who thought he was being a good guy. I recognized the actor as just a familiar face, but was devastated to google and realize that was Vic Morrow. Fuck John Landis.
Loved it. It's easy to imagine how this film could have become sentimental mush when Matthau began to give a shit about his wayward charges. But his hangdog charm thankfully stops that dead. Also the scene in the final game where Vic Morrow beats his own son was brutal. It's a good example of how the film has a touch of 70's grit that makes it work.
It’s also easy to imagine that Truck Turner worked for Chico in this universe.
The kid who plays Ogilvie has maybe the best case child actor career: - He's great in Scorsese's Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore at 12 - Plays young Woody Allen in a movie nobody remembers at 13 - Is in this and the sequel at 14 - Quits acting, goes to college, becomes an 80s software guy
Hey buddy buddy...
This podcast is the only good thing about Mondays..
Sportstember comes earlier every year!
Closure. The crossed out post really ruined my week. The will they won’t they of it all was rough. Thank you, ActionBoyz. Tho this relationship does seem a little manipulative on your part, Boyz.
