‘For All Mankind’ is so bad & so boring that it deserves a Nobel prize. When will Joel Kinnamen stop being shoved down our throats?
is rodgers a tool? he hasn’t watched the furious but watched Lucky… because he’s dumb-horny for atj (hard to blame, but the guy has such a superior attitude)
I thought The Odyssey was good, but it left me a little cold. Allowing that it might have been a specific problem with my theater, I thought the sound mix was a mess - the dialog in the early Ithaca scenes was borderline unintelligible. And the score took a weird turn in the final act - it felt more appropriate for Willow or Krull. Performances were a mixed bag - Damon, Bernthal, Pattinson and Morton were highlights. I can't stand Charlize's mega-flat American accent, she sounds like Dr House. Overall awesome to see a big artistic swing succeed and for people to be talking about a big event movie, especially one based on a classic.
The boringness of Apple shows seems to be part of the Apple brand in general like the direction is "we want this to feel at home playing in the Apple store", even the way they do MLB games feels sterilized ..which I've only seen once but once was enough and the way sports is splintered across streamers is whole other can of hot snakes..
Their MLB coverage has improved. It’s not great, but it’s better than NBC’s MLB coverage.
I saw a primer screening of the furious and Brian Le was there hyping people up before the film and every time he appeared in a scene the theater erupted in cheers. It was one of the best moving going experiences I’ve had. Absolute blast
"Dar fucked us." might be the funniest thing anyone has ever said.
Loved seeing multiple Mug Root Beer appearances in this movie. Tom’s got that dawg in him I guess.
Thanks for flagging up The Furious - what a ride!
G!! R!!! S!!!! You guys rule. Love the Video version.
My Freshman year English teacher was this super cool lady who also didn't take any shit. We read Romeo and Juliet and she showed us the movie over the course of two days. Before the nude scene she told the boys to keep their shit together and she told the girls to chill out because they're going to see Romeo's butt.
Excited to hear Gabrus talk about The Furious. The guy he mentioned basing his fighting style of Donkey Kong is Brian Le. His brother, a friend and himself have a youtube channel called the Martial Club where they do fight scenes in the style of classic kung fu movies for years now. Really cool to see him not only get a big part in an amazing movie, but probably steal the show.
Gabrus mentions a cool character he met, a stuntman who is now an archeologist in New Mexico. It reminded me of this archaeology book i read last year that's oddly ABZ coded in its movie/tv/culture references: In Whose Ruins: Power, Possession, and the Landscapes of American Empire - Alicia Puglionesi
I would like to politely say I am in the minority of people who does not like Nolan movies. I hide this fact from people. I do not shit on normies when they are excited about new Nolan or praise him. But I would say just like some people dislike cilantro genetically, I have an inherent reaction to most of his work where it just “tastes wrong”. I think he’s super lazy with characters and exposition. I’m also way less smart than he is, way less successful (as possible to be) and would shit my pants if I met someone who knew him.
The episodes aren’t free though so prob never going to be on YouTube
Nice, the last movie released on VHS
I've been comparing "The Odyssey" to "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves"... where they took a classic tale and gave it the Hollywood treatment... maybe not perfect but damn entertaining
This was a first time watch for me and with the title of the movie I actually wondered at first if the young killer was supposed to be Vigo in the past. I don't have face blindness I know they don't look that much alike. But enough that I thought they might be going there. Would have been a very different movie.
I work in the popcorn bag and bucket industry and the guy who pitched the Dune bucket was horrified when he saw the actual concept in person.
Wow, shocked that Rodgers liked The Odyssey. Even compared to other Nolan movies it was vacuous and awkward. Although you can tell he agrees somewhat because he immediately brings up comparing it to a "commercial movie" (didn't do that for Oppenheimer).
No man I said my opinion on the show there is no secret code in it.
i didn't like the odyssey but that is because in my 20s i was an ancient greek scholar so i 1) know way too much about the poem and 2) went in expecting to be disappointed
yeah the movie is definitely a (nolan) humorless, sexless hollywood-bastardized version of the text, and matt damon is a weak odysseus, but at least it’s shot beautifully, all-practical, and stoic as hell. i think all the side characters make it great. oh and they made argus shine!
I liked Masters of The Universe, but I also unironically love the original. Lots of fun fight scenes and real stunts. But in the end im commenting on a video were middle aged men talk about how great Christopher Nolan is so my opinion matters about as much as this podcast.
I get what you're all saying about Apple TV shows -- I wonder if it's Apple's version of Netflix's two-screen repetition -- building in long scenes gives everyone a moment to check their phones?
His love of popcorn buckets aside, Griffin Newman’s dad was one of the producers on Space Truckers.
And his godmother is the woman who played Will Graham’s wife in “Manhunter”
Wrath of Man was tight
I really do love the realistic comedic things on the odyssey, they are completely believable in the story; but are just absolutely funny, the dog on the dung heap, the “did he win”, made the movie even better and made the serious moments hit harder
Finding out James Remar played the prophet guy in Hades made me so happy.
Yeah its awesome that James Remar is now a 'Nolan Guy' and will probably keep popping up in stuff for years now.
Can you guys add these videos to YouTube the way Stavvy's podcast does it? Great to watch each video ep on a big ole screen!
You think these old farts know how to YouTube? They still release these on Vine
