I’m behind and just got to this one. Amazing movie, but I watched it on Tubi, and the whole thing has over dubbed the swear words and removed the nudity. It’s still says rated R, but once the Boyz started talking about it, I knew I got a TV edit or some shit. Tubi is usually good to me! Guess I have to rewatch it on Amazon.
Truck Turner would have been nominated for Best Picture in 2025 probably
I love this movie! I came on to say Shout Factory restored this and 5 other Blaxplotation Classics in 4k in a 4k Blu Ray box set (another 5 in Volume 2) these are all the 4k scans that are on Prime now. They look incredible! Coffy, Black Caesar, Across 110th st, Hell Up In Harlem, Sheba Baby should all be the 4k scans also. (Not sure if the Vol 2 Box Set Scans are added to streaming yet)
Had to listen to this a second time just to hear Rodgers' and Stanger's Tarantino impression again
But I'm talkin' bout Truck Turner.....
The Tarantino riff at the end was the hardest I've laughed in a long time. Just perfect!
theme song still stuck in my head
Hell ya!!!! My favorite blacksploitation flick ever. Long live action boyz!!!!!
I started ABZ a few months ago and now that I’m finally all caught up I feel like I might call in and share my Arnold story. Maybe I’ll just put this link here and then if anyone wants more of the story I’ll share - https://youtu.be/czgYHEyorXI?si=zgoDYJmqdv_ckd3y
I would love to hear it. Were you in that clip?
Warning! The tubi version is a TV edit! Wtf?
Wow, now that I’m working my way through the podcast, I’m realizing that the version that I watched on Tubi is insanely edited. I almost want to rewatch it elsewhere.
Stanger is right
I guess it’s obvious to say, but it’s amazing to me how much the audio and video quality affects my enjoyment of a movie. As mentioned on the pod, so many of the movies of this era only exist in copy of a VHS-level format, and despite the nostalgia factor, it really detracts from the power they may have had in their first viewing. Good on Amazon for finding and streaming a quality print of this movie. It looked and sounded great, and I was ALL IN.
Stanger loves Milk getting shot so much… hey Rhino I got a Sean Penn movie you gotta see… Kick It!
I’m pretty sure the Chemical Brothers sampled all of the funky wah-wah guitar from this movie back in the 90’s.
Bad movir
Really enjoyed this movie. But Truck calling Nate Papa Doc was strange. Maybe in the early 70s there wasn't that much awareness but Papa Doc was a bad guy.
Hadn’t a clue there were historical implications. Thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite YouTube videos is a Truck Turner/Star Trek the animated series mashup of the “pussy in Iceland” scene https://youtu.be/Max8UvHgDds?si=EU2zcYHb1KIst5Jw
Great flippin movie, maybe my favorite Blaxploitation film I've seen. But was hard to watch at times as our cat died this week.
This is one hell of a fun movie. Thanks boyz
great choice for Episode 600 of the show (if my math is correct).
They shoulda covered the movie 300 twice then
Sub 2 hours? Everything alright boyz?
The fact that Stanger knew the history of breast implants straight off the dome was hilarious.
Scott Adkins just turned 50. Undisputed II came out 20 years ago. Ben, push the Go button 🙏 https://youtu.be/tV4EJytXgp4?is=LqPP4qgosOBlULNz
I feel like he's been in the biz way longer to be that young
Appreciate Gabrus pimping out Ben's QT. Isn't it bad we all immediately think of him when a movie has a ton of n-words?
"You pissed on my damn shirt! "😺
and then DOESN'T change
I legit wonder if Tarantino was inspired by the scene of Gator fighting with the woman about picking up the phone, just because Samuel L Jackson and Bridget Fonda do something very similar in Jackie Brown. I remember ABZ calling out how super funny it is.
It’s gotta be.. it’s beat for beat
Right on.
nichelle nichols was so fucking good
An Blaxploitation blast. Loved the scene where Hayes tries to smooth over things with his disgruntled girlfriend by playfully waving a six-pack at her. What a class act. Plus judging by cool he looked waving around his .44 Magnum, Hayes would have been a great Dirty Harry. But Yaphet Kotto is the MVP here. He had a great entrance with his pimp funeral swagger and a great exit with his excellent death scene. You really felt the life slowly drain out of his eyes as he passed away in that car. He was a wonderful actor.
Kottos death was amazing. The wind sound, Hayes looming in the background. A+ picture.
This was a great rewatch for me, watched it on VHS a million years ago but retained very little of the plot/vibe. I like that it's a fairly contained story -- I kept expecting it to somehow grow, that the mob would get more involved, or that the stakes would get higher -- corrupt politicians / the man, urban renewal, international drug dealers and so on, all staples in blaxploitation. Love all the outfits. The car chase where they cartoonishly run into fruit stands, a cart full of bagels etc is great. Joe Dante the hitman. Favorite character: Nate Dinwiddie, the bail bondsman, not only a fun character played hilariously by Sam Laws but I love the 40s-50's r&b style hair and outfit, he's kinda country coded, in contrast to (the young, urban, modern) Truck and Jerry. Laws plays another character called Pops Dinwiddie in Kaplan's White Line Fever (1975), which I'm sure the Boyz will cover some day. (3 out of 400 found this interesting.) Isaac Hayes was 32 when he made this! He's always looked about 50 to me.
Truck Turner... Big Hairy Balls
This was an ABZ deep cut that made me laugh very hard. A tip of the beret to you. Thank you!
Old heads rejoice, we got a real banger here!!!
