We wished it were an April Fool's joke... but it isn't
Hi everyone,
Today's post will be different from our usual content. It won't focus on the game itself or updates, etc.
What we want to convey today is really important to us because we value transparency with you.
Let's start from the beginning: What happened?
As most of you know, Patreon is used to implement "upgrades" to the platform itself for creators and supporters/followers.
We recently received notification of a new function that is now available.
Allow me to provide a brief overview of what it entails:
In essence, creators are now able to create posts exclusively for followers, which won't be visible to paid members.
What is the purpose from Patreon's perspective?
To incentivize people to become paid members by providing them with a preview of paid posts.
"You just need to reserve the post to non-paid members, and in that way, it will not be visible to paid ones."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But now, let's get to the point:
what do we think about it? What are we going to do?
In short, we are not going to use it, and here's why:
We believe in transparency, and that means if you want to be a paid member, it's because you want/can do so, not because we show a little preview of paid content without the paid members knowing.
In our opinion, that kind of behavior would signify a lack of transparency and would not be fair, out of respect for both paid members and non-members alike.
Imagine being a paid member – how would you feel if we shared some paid content just for followers without letting you know?
That's why, once again, we are not going to use that kind of function.
What are your thoughts about it?
Let us know in the comments below.
BHG.

You are the goat
Thank you so much :D
I support you because I like you're game and I like where it is going. I will continue to support you no matter what Patreon does including if they were to cut you off 🙄 (I would use another way). I always read every post 👀 because I am interested in everything about the development process and where you are going. I think the idea of Patreon expecting that you would want to create posts only for followers and not for paid members is bizarre at best 😵💫. I cannot see how it would help at all 🤔. Why would want to exclude paid members from any post? It might even give some the incentive to stop supporting although I doubt that would happen. Letting followers see even more posts than they do now could possibly help but excluding the paid members? I don't see how. But if it helps you in any way, I am fine with whatever you do. I want this game to succeed 🙂.
Thank you so much for your support! We agree that the concept of Patreon's new feature is indeed unusual, and we don't see the benefit in using it. We believe in inclusivity and transparency, which is why we've chosen not to utilize this function.😊 We really appreciate that you want the game to do well! We'll keep doing our best to make it happen.
I agree with both sides...and with BHG and also frank's comment. there already is builds for free members, if they wish to wait long enough. I, personally am out of work currently, and cannot toss money to every single Patreon i would hope to support. This is sort of like the mp3/file sharing debate. I understand both sides to the discussions. I support creators and content i enjoy, as often as I can afford to. But there is also good people that give good publicity, share excitement over entertainment they may or may not pay for...they tell friends and maybe friends show support...financially and also, i do believe word of mouth and positivity is like free advertising. Even on a smaller scale, they also say bad or negative reviews can also add to publicity and advertisement...the whole angle of if anyone is taking the time to talk on a subject, it brings more eyes to that product or artist. Either way, I am gonna keep my eye on Hybridia and BHG. People love the old greek and roman gods and myths and lore, things with historical ties and such. Keep up the good work, and thanks for your honesty and communication! :)
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts :) Your support, whether through contributions or spreading the word, means a lot to us. We'll keep creating and sharing our passion for Greek and Roman mythology, and we appreciate your recognition of our honesty and communication. Thanks for being part of our community!
The whole thing sounds a bit strange. But, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you don't use it, fine with me. If you did use it, fine with me as well. Ultimately, you have to find a way to communicate to non-paying members, I think. If that means, you have to post stuff, that paying members cannot see, I wouldn't worry too much about it. As a paying member, I am interested in what you post to the paying members. If you post something else to non-paying members, that wouldn't be too much of a concern to me unless you start posting the interesting stuff only to non-paying members....Please don't let these changes get in the way of your creative activities.
Thank you so much for your kind words :) We wanted to convey through this post that you can rest assured we won't let these changes affect our communication or creative activities.
