Another response to inaccurate accusation
Whoever says I was forcing a monthly subscription to use the mods is totally wrong and they did not even bother to read the posts.
I have stated in every post since I first added DRM that no subscribers will be affected, you can literally cancel subscription and wait a year then pass the authentication from another computer to get the token with your account whose subscription has expired for one year by then, it's written in every posts on patreon since I added it.
DRM is obviously bad for reputation since a lot of people keep demonizing what I did.
When implemented well this could've been a good thing for subscribers, since with DRM I can stop restricting download acceess with roles.
And it also allows for free updates for former subscribers.
For example if a mod still fails after a game update despite the memory signature I used, I can simply update it and release it, and people who subscribed for only one month for this mod back when the game was released, can now get the update I release for free without having to resub, but people who didn't subscribe still can't use it even if they can download it.
It's literally a win-win, only loser is pirates. But since all the hypocrite have to go againist me while still finding every way they can to use my mods, I'll continue to make it harder for them.
I am about to move on from Starfield to next game, I'll continue this as a service no matter what they said.

Thank you for your work, people just don't read.
You're skyrim frame generation mod literally changed the game for me. Thank you for your service my friend. I did not mind having to pay a little for it.
Thank you so much for explaining this and making it obviously consumer FRIENDLY. I will make sure to support you further down the road. Such ethical practices deserve all the support anyone can give to you via this platform. It's literally a win win for every ethical person who has a few dollars left every year. 🙏
A lot of gamers are some of the most entitled consumers on the planet. The industry has issues with greed and shipping bad products. But at the same time a lot of gamers want 100 hours of fully polished AAA level gameplay that is bug free, innovative and compelling. But they also don't want to spend more than $20 on it most of the time lol. These same people will be lazy once a week and order Uber eats on McDonald's for $35 for a couple like warm cheeseburgers they have to microwave lmao. Don't worry about it man. You're providing an excellent service. Obviously a talented engineer doing shit these game companies should be doing themselves. There's a hole in the market and you're filling that need. I was considering getting a 4080 or something since some games are demanding on my Ultrawide for my 3070. But frame generation mods are gonna have me hold out until the 5000 series. For $5 that's a steal. But hell I'll just stay subscribed. $60 a year for a working adult is peanuts. Playing Skyrim at 3440x1440 with 1300 mods at 120fps is so good.
Ok so the author made a really needed mod. I didn't need to fuss if it conflict if it's all the mirriad thing's and doo dads that mods come with. IT JUST WORKS. I needed some questions answered. The guy answered me and explained stuff. I don't like paying for mods...but now...I can honestly say it depends. Because his mod is better than the real nvidia frame generation and it has dlss presets and depth fix. Basicaly all the things ubisoft fucked up with. So do I really need to hemorrhage that fiver if I paid 2k for a gpu...really???
you did good bro, honest pay for a day's work thank you and we appreciate what you do
Happy to pay for quality.
Read about your work. Saw also comments on you allowing downloads only with subscription. Thought about it, read reviews and decided to subscribe for a year. Reason why we pay for a rtx4xxx is that we want max quality in the games and if someone invests lots of work improving those games its well worth the effort to support. Keep up the good work.
Appreciate your hard work, glad to pay for hard work.
As "bad" as DRM is; it really works. Ubisoft and PureDark have successfully converted me from freeloader to subscriber by using it. Since I can afford an RTX 40 card and a uplay sub; I can also afford $5pm without whining. I will remain subscribed as long as there is new content.
Thank you for your mods
Thanks for the service and for speaking up for yourself! Deserve to get compensated for your stellar work! Hats off!
Thanks a lot for the mods, wanted to come here myself to see what you were going through. You provide stellar service \compensation and recognition should come with that
hello where can i get dlss framegen mod of avatar please
Whaaaat?! Can i really use mods if i already subscribe him patreon for once? I did it once my old windows install and now i did it again.
First of all great job on the mods, seems to work rather well and was easy to set up. I understand your thought process with the DRM, but in the end, like you have concluded yourself, it's not worth it. It's never worth it. - Vast majority of those who pirate either won't or can't pay. DRM won't change that. - Crafting the DRM is extra work for you. - Cracking the DRM is extra work for pirates. But, there's a lot more of them than there are of you. - DRM hits your reputation, lowering your potential revenue. Gamers who would apply mods are specially sensitive to it. Reputation affects revenue a lot more than piracy. Due to the points above, even though you had great intentions, it's more work, more stress, less revenue, so it's actually a lose-lose. I would also suggest you consider open-source with creative commons type license. Let the many busy themselves with improving upon your work, instead of cracking it. That's the true win-win.
Not only that but it turn off some people that were willing to pay to begin with.
Never would have even known you existed if it hadn't been for the choosingbeggars losing their minds about something that is frankly none of their business.
Damn journalists. DRM or not, you're still the amazing PureDark. Keep up the great work!
Trying to combat pirates will have the opposite effect, increasing competition. That's just how it works whenever any kind of DRM is involved. Stay humble, and good luck.
I know, I've decided to leave them aside and never care about them anymore. But IGN decided to publish an article. I was interviewed like 20 days ago back when I was angry, but then I've long decided to give up on fighting back cuz it ain't worth it. I totally forgot about IGN for 20 days, now they just brought me more unwanted attention.
Well, I’m undoing Grateful_Users work because I don’t want my PC running mods that has traps left for pirates, that could potentially trip for me.
Read my recent statement, it was a long time ago and was only anger words, I've long decided not to do it. I don't know why IGN took this long to post something that's ages old and outdated.
I just subbed to spite the reddit choosingbeggars and I don't even have an nvidia card. keep up the great work!
I am unsubbing. I'll continue doing so no matter what you say if you're using DRM.
Limited critical thinking.
People expect things for free, I believe you should get paid for your work! Don't pay too much attention to those entitled people that want things for free.
Just heard about last anti crack system, people are just crying right now for cracking your mod lmao. Imagine crying because you are punished for doing something illegal, like stealing other work.
Sorry to hear about all the people being ugly. Thank you for sharing this and working on it. I especially like the menu that you access while in game.
Using this mod will probably save you more in electricity than the $5. Thanks for the good work.
Came for the DLSS with ENB test mod for Skyrim SE. Wouldn't have even known there was DRM in any of your mods if I didn't see this post. Sorry but I can't support you now that I do. I wont be back
How dare he protect his work. /s Bye Felicia.
I subbed for your mods. But, using an DRM is not very fair. Yes, it's an hard work for you and the DRM can justify the price of your work. But, it would be better to let us choose between sub to thank you, support you and the mod is freely use or paid for getting the mod + support you. Personally, that's i would be prefered, the first option is much better even if i can still use the mod after my subscription
the DRM doesn't prevent you from using it after you unsub. In fact I'm pretty sure hes adding a way to still get updates after you unsub.
Excuse me, where can I check the detailed specifications for DRM? I use Steam to enjoy MOD games on multiple PCs. Is that possible? Of course, I will be the only one using it and won't launch them simultaneously.
Is it possible, you can use the same account to pass authentication on multiple PC. I literally have no limitation for any subscribers.
I cancelled my subscription renewal as soon as you added the DRM. I was happy to support you, but once you decided to force things you lost that support. I wont be back when my sub expires.
Understandable.
Anyone saying this is okay or in any way justified is far too ignorant to realize their own stupidity. People are not okay with this because of the precedent it sets for modding in the future, not just because this loser decides he's entitled to get paid for modding a product that he didn't even create. I'll be joining the unsub wagon and will happily re-sub if Pure decides to walk this back and apologize. Modding should be free for the community as you are not entitled to get paid for modifying a game you did not create just like how a streamer is not entitled to a paycheck just because they decide to stream. To clarify I have no issue with someone requesting donations for their work, however actively going out of your way to force people to pay for your work is purely destructive and will only lead to all mods being pay-walled in the future.
So why did you sub in the first place?
Stop blowing up my inbox with your bitch posts damn
Quick, lets cancel, Bethesda are adding support for DLSS :P
yo what, chill
In my opinion, whoever PureDark is, this individual put in the time and energy to implement a feature the developers did not include, due to what I assume is because of a partnership with AMD due to the Scarlett GPU in the Series X. They picked up where the developers couldn't or didn't, so for them to ask for a small compensation is, in my opinion, more than fair. Some people spend more on a cup of Starbucks daily. For a one time purchase, you're getting a mod that's constantly receiving support to ensure it's functional. I understand modding is is something most individuals do as a labor of love, but people I think take for granted the amount of time it takes to develop and implement one. If you want to complain about $5 going to a single developer as a one-time cost, then next time you become the developer and then you won't have to pay for it. Until then, stop hating someone for using this as an opportunity and instead direct your frustration towards the developer for purposely withholding features, well-knowing the community will handle it at no additional expense for them. But again, this is just my opinion. Great work PureDark, and thank you for improving my experience with this game drastically.
We're all grateful for the hard work but it's not about money, it's just how he did it. And he knows that perfectly well.
this made my game run at 60 with no frame drops you dd what the developers did not thank you!!!!
Thank you for the job and the communication ^^. You're awesome for doing what Bethesda will never do.
umm... bethesda just announced DLSS coming in a future update. PureDark did great work on his and it was basically a god send at release, but we are getting official support. As for Puredark, Keep up the great work man. The modding community needs ya, lol.
I unsubscribed, not because I had a problem with the DRM, but because trying to make DRM sound like a good thing as the consumer is just distasteful. DRM is already a stupid idea that only hurts honest customers, but saying its a win for me feels like a slap in the face.
Well I wouldn't be able to distribute free updates for people only subscribed for one mod without leaking it for everyone else if not for an authentication. It's nothing different than just using the discord roles or patreon post access, but instead it's on the mod side so that I can allow everyone to download the updates but only people who had the access can use it.
DENUVO DENUVO DENUVO !!! please integrate DENUVO drm
Is there a problem with what's currently being used? Is there privacy concerns or something because of the DRM? I don't really know anything about it.
Thank you, starfield mid plz do gta v/fivem next youl'll attract alot of new subs. And fivem could really use fg since its so cpu intensive
Honestly i find it amazing how people are willing to spend 300-400+ dollars on a 4000 gpu and when it comes to spending 5 dollars for a mod to utilize some of those features people go "OH MY GOD THE NERVE!" I understand frustration from people but its directed wrong by being directed at you mate. If anything this is on Bethesda and Nvidia for not accurately supporting their users with features they have advertised. I will likely pop in and out of being subbed mostly since the games you generally do this for are rarely games i play. But i support the decision for actually putting it behind patreon as you deserve to get payed for the work you do.
this is the dumbest take I have read today. I have a 4090 that I have worked my ass off to pay and I still pirate the freaking game because I do not think it is worth the money. This is my opinion and usually it only applies to me and my way of doing things. I gladly paid the $5 because I think it was a worth investment but you should not HAVE to pay to get it. PureDark and nobody is entitled to get paid for a MOD (IP that allready exists in a different form somewhere else) they implement on a game they do not own. Subscribers chose to do so out of their own volition and should be able to do so through donations, not a paywall. You are not entitled to make money from a game you do not own using DLSS/XESS/FSR or whatever that you also do not own. You do this for the love of the game and the love of improving a broken ass game, and if you make money from donations, that is great. Making Mods is not a JOB.
shut up lol
Unsubbed
Yeah, but when you are not subscriber you do not have acces to download channel, so how someone who unsubscribed can access new updates to mods?
Actually that's what the authentication is for, so that I can allow downloads for people subscribed before, so that you can get the updates for the mods you want.
Bro screw the haters. You're #1!
DUDE. HOW ABOUT YOU STOP CARING WHAT DUMMIES THINK? YOURE AWESOME MAN! ACT LIKE YOU KNOW :)
There has been updates every few days on discord?
I don't mind paying, but there hasn't been an update in a while and it's still causing a lot of crashes during fast travel.
Beta 7 came out last night
I don't see the issue. There is a free version of 2.0 that you released entirely for free. I imagine not many people complaining work for free. However, you offer the frame generation that you had to create (I couldn't do it, so I paid you for your time) so you deserve to be paid. If they want a lesser version (no offense to the other mod author) then they can use his FG. I paid mainly for the ease and now that the game has been updated and my FG didn't break while apparently the other FG mod did, I'm even more happy with my purchase. I would have honestly paid substantially more for this mod. Just being completely honest.
Oh yeah, not to mention, with the FIVE DOLLARS, we also get DLSS/FG for additional games. Couldn't be happier! Thanks man!
Whatever happens, I'm on your side
unsubbed
Just subscribed to say keep doing what you are doing. You are good at it, so don’t worry about the negativity out there. If it starts to be overwhelming, remember you only have to meet your own expectations. Step away from the comments and criticism and go have fun. That’s why you did this in the first place - the fun.
Your work deserve to be paid. It allow me to enjoy all potential of my graphic card RTX4070. As Bethesda doesen't provide DLSS thank you for your work. I'm proud to support you with money. Continue like that.
Doesn't matter to me bro. Keep up the good work and keep making more mods and you have a lifetime subscription from me.
Let the freeloaders whine.
Keep up the hard work; you deserve to be paid.
The issue that will ever be present is that people all have their own personal idea of morality. They'll justify their actions based on what they assume to be ok or not and I include myself in that, so should you PureDark. I'm not perfect no one is and I understand your choices, I think they were fair, I might've done the same in your position. With that said, giving them any thoughts or concerns will just be the thing they needed to fuel even worst practices. I see how you had a win-win perspective on it, I did too. However, publicly calling the anonymous out will only result in quickly transforming this into a loss-loss and in the process, you might impact that tasty little nugget you earned for yourself. In my opinion, they are not worth it. You did what you thought was right with honest and fair, equitable intentions. That's all that matters and when it no longer, you can decide then what your morality needs to be at that point in time.
You say this, but where is the authentication token located? You never shared where the token is. I tried to find the token today to activate my other PC offline, but nowhere could I find what the token file was called or where to find it. If you're going to publicly state that you can take the token file to any offline PC, you ought to share instructions on how to do so easily.
Hey man, while Starfield now received official DLSS support I'd still like to thank you for your work on Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE. The latter was literally game-changing for me. Don't let all the hate get to you, in the end of the day your Starfield DLSS mod was optional and nobody was forced to use it. Keep up the good work!
You deserve to be paid for your work. It's not that hard. Some people make mods for free. Good for them, I have done that myself. But if someone makes something this good and they work really hard on it like you obviously do. It's easy worth $5 of my money. There are inferior free versions for the whiners to use, you get what you pay for. And from what I understand, several of them do a damn good job anyway. Irony is, I found out about your mod because someone posted a cracked version on Nexus, I could have used that. But I came here and subbed instead to support the work. And since then you released 3 updates and now it's really stable for me. Not had a crash for 15 hours gameplay and made my gameplay experience much better. Best $5 I ever spent TBH!
Starfield made me aware of your work in the first place. Thank you for everything. Dont let haters take you down.
It doesn’t matter, no water you say people will just complain and find way to justify their action so they don’t have to pay. “You already made X amount of money, therefore I should get it free.” That’s some petty justification reasoning, “$5 is too much” probably younger kids, pirates just don’t want to pay. I seen pirate leaked stuff that’s a $1, like wow. If you want to drop the SF series to not deal with the hassle, go for it. Until then, stay whelmed.
Gamers are assholes. Do your thing your way. People that don't like it can bugger off. You're the one doing the work and providing the service.
I canceled my sub. Your community was willing to give you so much money. $40,000 a month.. Why were you so worried? I went from wanting to sub every month to not wanting to support due to DRM
He wasn't worried. He was likely fed up with people stealing his work.
Fair
I thought the download links get hidden on discord once you're not subbed?
That's before, and with a new authenticate system I can keep track of former patron so that I can allow former patron to download updates for the mod they subscribed for.
Too many people feel they are entitled to everything for free. Its not wrong or immoral to want to get paid for the work we do. I don't even use your mod but subscribed because I want to support the work of people like you.
I personally don’t like the DRM. But it’s your product, and your choice. At least thanks for the good work. Even with DRM, this work is appreciated by many.
"Move on from Starfield??" PureDark no way...we need you.
There are already like a few stable versions, although still no one version for all, but most people can have stable experience either with 02h1 or 06 or 06h1 or 07, I don't think there's any needs for updating other than mod broken, but it withstood the newest update I think it can last a long time.
You have been completely clear from the first post I stumbled on about this mod. Don’t listen to the people who just complain and don’t even take the time to read.
Don't worry about it , people still buy games with drm anyways not to mention buy stuff from company's that are bigger hypocrites like Sony and M$
Fenrir forbid that you are compensated for your efforts and for trying to make a living. It was because of the idiots that I found your patreon and subbed to it to support your work. These spoiled man children really need to realize that mods take a lot of time and energy to create. Especially if they are made to fix or add features to an unfinished alpha or beta title released as “polished.” These are also the same man children that will buy every BS skin in the game.
Denuvo is the only way Please insert denuvo drm in your mods
Thank you and shame on people for forcing a statement like this. I truly hope anyone cracking and using your mod sees devastating effects. Keep up the good work. You're one of the hardest workers I have ever encountered.
I haven't even actually used any of your mods yet, just subscribe because I feel like I'm supporting something good for the space. F the haters
Is your mod, you can do what you want. If they want to cry about it they can make their own mod. Capitalism ftw
I have subscribed and like your mods. The things that are a bit problematic in my view are that you might not be able to use or active the mod with no internet (Don't really know how the DRM works, but at least 1 time internet is needed I think). Also, if eventually the Frame Gen version becomes stable and DRM-less the next point would not be an issue but right now if you would just stop hosting the verification service from today to tomorrow because of any reason nobody would be able to install this mod or use it (again I do not know how the DRM works, does it ask the server every time or just one time).
Its not always online DRM so it doesn't have to constantly ping a server to work.
Fuck the hate mate. You spend time and energy building a mod implementing something Bethesda should have done. Your time/your effort = reasonable to charge for it. The alternative is no dlss support. Just ignore the commentary and keep going!
They're complaining for the sake of complaining, it's a great thing that we have indie developers doing their thing by adding functionality we want. Keep up the good work.
Keep doing a good job!
You are providing a service you need to be composited Bethesda shoulda added it from the jump then
I completely agree with this, it is absolutely you’re right to monetise this, the work was put in so people like myself and everyone here can enjoy these AAA titles without having to worry about performance issues. The anger should be directed at the companies not including DLSS
Can I suggest an ideal solution for everyone? Create a central download application, like Yuzu, where those who have subscribed can update the versions, and to download and use it for the first time they need to authenticate, after that they no longer need to.
I think it's your right to monetise this. Especially since you allow a one time payment for the mod essentially, it's very fair. I wouldn't mind the complaining. Any publicity is good publicity after all haha. The people who want the performance boost will still buy your mod either way
I think it'd be better optics if you released the mods freely and switched to a donation based model. Keep patreon for early releases. I get it's easy for me to say this tho as I'm not in your shoes trying to make a living from this stuff so take everything I say with a grain of salt. that said I'll do my best to support you while I'm using your mods either way. edit - also, if you reach out to Yong and talk one on one it might be a good idea, I think he may have overreacted in his video but he's always struck me as a reasonable guy and has spoken with others he's taken issues with before.
Continue. I really like your job. I don't even need to subscribe but i'm still supporting you because you deserve it
I'm a big supporter of you PureDark and have done what I can to defend you online, so when I say this I'm not saying it as a hater. This doesn't come across particularly well. Trying to justify DRM as better for users is going to get laughed at and just bring more criticism your way. If I were you, I'd just not say anything at all. You don't need to justify making sure people pay for your labour, that's just how things work.
I won't if they don't spread lies about me. If they are to accuse me of charging monthly fee I have to fight back. Other criticism I won't really care, only lies I can't let go.
I get where they are coming from because modding is about improving upon someone's work via community effort but at the same time I'm not against people getting paid for their work and surely a bunch of work went into these mods because I've been trying to get it to work with Callisto protocol for a couple weeks, even taking a peek under the hood with Ida but it didn't help me whatsoever lol. Probably because I'm not a modder although if you wanna give me the secret so I can play that 1 game said secret is safe and I'll stay subbed (plus upcoming tip when I finally get freakin paid) for having the stardlss mod out in under 2 hours. I'm a man of my word and while my pay schedule sucks...I'm still sending an extra $40 your way on top of the monthly fee. I did hear digital foundry talk about the mod and they were of 2 minds on the issue. Overall they agree a modder can decide if they wanna get paid or not. The only issue they had was charging and even then Rich seemed to be more worried that charging for a mod like this along with all the attention might cause you to run a foul of Microsoft lawyers. I doubt Bethesda minds and I doubt team Xbox or Phil mind...but legal is different and I dealt with them once back in 2000 when I...well dm me (PureDark only) and I'll tell you the story but it was shocking to say the least but ended well for me even if I had to remove everything I had written, found and posted. Regardless I wish you luck. If I didn't believe in the work... I wouldn't still be here
Man, dont bother, nobody is working for free... those kids without 5 dollar, how they got the game then? Do your job, don't bother the critics
giving access to updates down the line would be great as it fixes my only issue i had with the sub which was no updates once it ran out :)
Thank you so much for your service. Really took my Starfield experience to a whole new level. Didn’t even thought of it twice about paying for it cuz I knew it was a one time thing.
Those haters dont even know how much work it is to keep software products up to date. They dont respect the work of others and mostly want everything for free. Since free2play stuff came up everything went into bad direction. I feel sorry for all creators who have to deal with that!
So are the DRM mods freely downloadable by now? Oh and integrating DLSS3 into Final Fantasy XIV would be GRAND.
Once this model runs through I'll open the download access for former patrons.
I really like the new model tbh. I'm going to have to unsubscribe for a few months as I need to go through and stabilize my economy as I became a university student just about a month ago. Being able to actually get updates in the meantime is fantastic. The old saying "haters gonna hate" still stands to this day.
There was a discussion worth having at the time of the announcement about DRM in mods. However, you've gone about it in probably the best way humanly possible, and seeing other people dismiss what the implementation, it feels like they're missing the forest for the trees. Mod DRM doesn't sound great on paper but in practice it's been totally fine and basically invisible for me. You're providing a service with these mods that no one else is (there's another Starfield one but it's more janky and the first frame gen mod outside yours I believe). The lack of respect I see across the internet is truly unbelievable. If you can make money from this work and people are happy to pay for the value-add to our gaming experiences, then you deserve it. Maybe one day something would happen where that would change, but in the meantime I'm more than willing to give $5 a month to support what you do, even if I don't have to. Keep up the great mods
Biggest potential issue will be Microsoft legal. Not Xbox or Bethesda but the lawyers..... They can be vicious
So right now I can still get updates on the discord even after unsub? Or is that yet to be implemented?
You can get updates for the game you subscribed for, yes. I will open the download access for people who's subscription expired.
Thanks for all of your work. I've been trying to call out pirates where I see them, but people get really vitriolic when you suggest the possibility of supporting a good developer.
It's ironic that folks pay nearly $100 for a game that left out what your doing for $5......
Ignore them - keep going with the good Work 💪🫶
Thx for what you do, best 5 bucks I spent this year.
