Sneak Peek: A Different Beginning in 0.8.3

Here’s your first sneak peek at some of the new features coming in v0.8.3! 😁

Some of you already know I’ve been working on a commissioned addition alongside the other content for this update. Well, it’s time to show you what that’s been keeping me busy with!

Introducing Reciprocal Flesh, the game’s first commissioned starting scenario and a new Very Hard start!

A New Perspective

Life at the Academy is already complicated enough… now imagine waking up in a body that isn’t yours. 😅

In this start, your character begins as a man who wakes up in a woman’s body, with a whole new set of circumstances to figure out. Getting through classes and keeping the bills paid is still on the menu, but so is learning to navigate this unfamiliar life.

And, of course, there’s someone behind all this…

Meet Mysti

Every unusual beginning deserves an unusual introduction.

Meet Mysti, a witch with questionable intentions, a manipulative streak, and her own very specific ideas about what comes next. What a lovely person to owe your new beginning to. 😂

She’s a new special NPC created for this commission, and I’m leaving room for her to appear elsewhere in the game later. For now, though, she has a few expectations for you…

I’ll let you discover exactly what those are in game.

The Ledger

Mysti’s Ledger is a big part of this new start. Its pages give you objectives involving conversations, helping others, setting personal boundaries, and making decisions for yourself.

You won’t get the whole list right away. More unfolds as you progress and return for reviews with Mysti. One page at a time… because apparently waking up in the wrong body wasn’t enough homework already. 😅

Your Choices Still Matter

Your choices still matter throughout this process. How you interact with classmates, which boundaries you keep, and how you deal with Mysti’s expectations are all part of the experience. Adjusting to a new life doesn’t mean everyone has to play the same personality.

The Asylum System

Your character already has grades, bills, and whatever questionable decisions you’ve been making for her to deal with… sometimes, it all gets a little too much. 😅

In v0.8.3, looking after her mental health matters more, and the asylum becomes a fully playable location, with its own routine, recovery activities, characters, and encounters!

I’ve been working on giving this part of the game more depth, so a stay means making choices about how you spend your days and work toward getting back to campus.

Once admitted, you’ll have a different daily routine to figure out. Therapy, quiet rest, supervised study, and exercise all have a place in your recovery.

Need to bring Stress down? Make some time to rest. Sanity needs attention? Focus on recovery. Worried about falling behind in class? Supervised study might be worth fitting into your day.

Yes, even here, you’re going to have to make choices about how to spend your time. Your coursework sadly doesn’t disappear just because you’ve changed rooms. 😅

Treatment and discharge reviews are part of the experience too, with medication choices and opportunities to discuss your care.

When you can leave depends on your condition, the circumstances of your admission, and how long you’ve been staying. The interface shows the requirements and your next review, so you’ll know what you’re working toward.

Dr. Hennick would probably appreciate you following the recovery plan. Whether your character is a cooperative patient… well, that’s another story.

Meanwhile, campus life keeps moving without you.

Classes, deadlines, and bills are still there, which makes keeping up with your studies useful when you can manage it. Certain stays also come with temporary aftercare once you return to campus.

Getting discharged is a good step, but giving your character a little breathing room afterward might be a good idea too. 🙂

And this system isn’t limited to your character!

Generic students can also take time away for recovery, so you might notice a familiar face missing around campus.

If someone you know is staying in the ward, you’ll be able to visit, keep them company, study together, or bring a care package. A chance to be there for them, without expecting them to share more than they’re comfortable with.

I like giving the other students lives that carry on alongside yours, and this adds another way to interact with them. 💛

Of course, the asylum also has its own staff and encounters. Some offer support, while others bring tension and a few decisions to make…

I’m keeping those out of this preview. You guys will have to discover them in game.

Finally, this whole system is optional.

I know mental-health crises and institutionalization aren’t subjects everyone wants in their game, so v0.8.3 includes a dedicated toggle under Preferences → Content.

Turning off Mental health & asylum content disables Sanity management, related warnings, and asylum admissions for both your character and NPCs. The regular Stress mechanics remain active.

It works with existing saves too! If your character is already admitted when you switch it off, she’ll return to her room without advancing time or adding a discharge bill.

A new starting scenario, a new witch to be suspicious of, and another way to experience the Academy… v0.8.3 keeps growing! 😂

Would you give Reciprocal Flesh a try on your next playthrough, or are you happy enough with the problems your character already has? 👀

Next up, I’m working on House Vult, the Brothel Management Endgame System, and plenty more surprises! More on those in a future sneak peek. 👀

Now on the hard start difficulty game the heroine became dirty on 1 day in academy despite she took a shower. My opinion that prologue need to make as day 0 or prologue day - before day 1.

If you're going to flesh out the asylum system, I'd also like to see highly addictive, dangerous drugs included in the game. A school where wealthy children gather would be easy prey for drug dealers.

It looks like the commissioned start is only a very hard start ? Atm noticed protagonist can only ask for dates with men not women . Changing ?

Yup! Reciprocal Flesh is the commissioned Very Hard start. Easy / Normal / Hard keep the original female MC routes. This one explores a different POV, and I did a looooot of research and interviews to help me write it from a man’s perspective :P I’ll keep the story’s direction a surprise, but dating girls isn’t its planned focus. Phone date invites to girls are disabled for everyone not just Very Hard. In-person Ask Out should still work once your relationship is far enough along. If it’s missing when you meet the requirements, let me know and I’ll check it :)
